Rights Focus Week We recently held another Rights Focus Week in school. This year’s Outright Campaign explores the impact of climate change and its effects on children’s rights. Each class looked at natural disasters and the affect on people around the world. This work was then displayed in our gym hall with two showcase sessions for our parents and carers. Article 24 I have the right to be as healthy as possible Article 1 Everyone under 18 has rights Beat the Street As many of you know, we took part in the Beat the Street campaign this year. This initiative encouraged all in our community to travel in a healthy way. As mentioned in last month’s newsletter we came first in the North Ayrshire mainland schools for our average score. We also came second in the North Ayrshire mainland schools total score table. Craig and Lucy came along to present us with our trophy and certificates.
P1 Induction Programme Our Induction Programme for our new P1s is well underway. Our new boys and girls have visited on three occasions to familiarise themselves with our school, our staff, our children and also meet their buddies. Parents and carers have been introduced to our school, the SMT, our partner agencies and also had an input on the Primary 1 curriculum. This programme will continue into June in the hope that all the boys and girls will feel more than ready to make the transition from nursery to primary. Article 15 I have the right to meet with friends and join groups Football Team Our P6 and P7 football team achieved more success this month. They became winners of the North Ayrshire Schools Champions League competition with only one defeat, which is a tremendous achievement. All the boys who took part displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout. They qualified for the Champions of Champions on Thursday 30th May where they came a very creditable 3rd overall. Well done to all involved in our school football team over the past year! Article 15 I have the right to meet with friends and join groups
Cluster Moderation During the course of this session teaching staff have been working closely with cluster colleagues from St John’s in Stevenston and St Winnings in Kilwinning. They have been looking at the moderation of Numeracy. This culminated in a showcase of some of the learning experiences our pupils have had over the course of this programme. We will continue to work closely with our colleagues in session 2024/25. Snack Trolley From May 2024 a temporary arrangement of a free mid-morning snack was made available for all children. This includes items such as fruit, healthy home baking, ambient yoghurts and breadsticks. We are delighted to share that these have proved to be very successful. Lots of our pupils are accessing this trolley to ensure they have a snack. This initiative will continue until February 2025 Article 29 I have the right to an education which develops my personality, talents and abilities.
