Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to our March newsletter which sees us come to the end of another fun-filled term here at St Anthony's. We have had lots of wonderful experiences for all pupils ranging from World Book Day, lambs visiting, to the successes on the sports field with our netball, football and running squads performing so well. With the Easter holidays approaching may I take this opportunity to wish all in our school community a happy and healthy break. We look forward to all our pupils returning for the final term of 2023/24. As ever, let us all keep Working Together for Excellence Kind regards, Shirley May Carr St Anthony's March 2024 Newsletter Article 13 I have the right to find out and share information World Book Day 2024 We celebrated World Book Day on 7th March where pupils came into school wearing their favourite colour. This was based on the book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit!’ Pupils took part in many activities that explored the joy of reading. As can be seen in the photos below, this joy extended outwith the classroom and into the playground too!
School Football Team Our School Football team continue to go from strength to strength. Further to last month’s report, they managed to achieve another five victories in the Champions League. They have also progressed to the next round of the Ayrshire Cup after a 3-1 victory over Whitehirst Park Primary School on Monday afternoon. They will now face Annanhill Primary School in the next round. They rounded this off with victory in The Easter Cup on Wednesday 27th March! Well done everyone! Cross Country Race 2 On Saturday 23rd March, eight brave children came out on a cold, wet and windy morning to take part in the North Ayrshire Schools Cross Country event. Conditions overhead and underfoot were very tricky but all eight completed the course and did themselves and the school proud. A huge well done to one of our P5 girls who made it to the podium and came 3rd in the girls race! World Down Syndrome Day 2024 On Thursday 21st March, we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day. As is tradition, everyone was encouraged to wear odd socks or funny socks on that day. Further to this, pupils were asked to take part in a homework challenge where they managed to do 21 activities. This was also a focus in school with some classes taking part in PE lessons where they had to do 21 star jumps, shoot 21 baskets or climb the rope in 21 seconds. At our assembly on Friday 22nd March we were also blessed to have Erin speak to us all about Down Syndrome. Article 23 I have the right to special care and education Parent Council Bingo On Friday 15th March, our Parent Council held a Prize Bingo in St Mary’s Church Hall. As can be seen from the photos below, this proved to be a huge success and just under £800 was raised. This money will help contribute towards learning activities and experiences for our children both this session and next session. Article 15 I have the right to meet with friends and join groups
New Born Lambs Visit As is tradition now at St Anthony’s, we had some lovely visitors on Monday 18th March. Mr Hibberd brought along newly born lambs for our school community to see and spend time with. This is always a huge treat for all our boys and girls and we must extend a huge thank you to Mr Hibberd for giving his time (and lambs!) to our school. Article 13 I have the right to find out and share information Creative Engineers Challenge On Monday 25th March, pupils from P5 and P6 went to St Matthew’s Academy to take part in the Creative Engineers Challenge. The purpose of this challenge was to come up with a design using KNex materials. All pupils showed great skill and perseverance to complete the challenge. A huge well done to Finlay and Joshua who came second in the competition. Buddy Visit On Wednesday 20th March, some lucky P6 pupils got to meet their buddies at Springvale Early Years Centre. They spent time with them and forged new friendships. We look forward to welcoming these children as part of our new P1 class next session.
