October Newsletter

October Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you all had a lovely October break with your friends and family. We are now in the midst of a very busy term which incorporates Hallowe’en, Remembrance Day, St Andrew’s Day and, of course, Christmas. We also have a selection of after school clubs starting this term alongside some lunch time clubs led by both staff and pupils. As ever, please do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions or comments. Shirley May Carr St Anthony's October 2023 Newsletter Toy Swap Shop On Wednesday 11th October, our Rights Protectors Council held a very successful Toy Swap Shop. Thank you to all who donated items to swap. Eighty-six families brought in 437 items! Council members collected items, 'priced' them, created table displays, welcomed pupils and staffed the stalls. We are very proud of and grateful for the commitment of the Rights Protectors Council members in enabling our children with the right to play and rest. Article 31 I have a right to relax and play

WILLOW STRUCTURE On Friday 6th October, our willow structure was given a much needed makeover. This was a great team effort from parent helpers and Muirshiel Country Park staff. Pupils access this daily and now we are very proud of how it looks. It also highlights that teamwork does really make the dreamwork! INTERGENERATIONAL COUNCIL On Thursday 5th October, the Intergenerational Council, Generation Inspiration, made their first visit to Arran View Nursing Home. The smiles on the faces of our children and residents alike demonstrate the success of this opportunity. As there are new residents this visit was focused on building relationships. WHOLE SCHOOL WALK As you know, the first Friday of every month is when we have our Whole School Walk. This month, we were again blessed with lovely weather and were joined by many parents and carers. This is a health promoting event where all of our school community come together and enjoy a stroll through the local area. Our next whole school walk will take place on Friday 3rd November. CLIMATE READY CLASSROOM On Thursday 14th September, P6M and P6A took part in Climate Ready Classroom activities. These lessons, in collaboration with Keep Scotland Beautiful and WOSDEC, provided all P6 pupils in North Ayrshire the chance to participate in a day of online climate workshops. Both classes are now working on a Climate Action Plan which will be taken forward by our Pupil Councils. Do you have the numeracy skills you need? Lots of people find maths difficult and feel anxious working with numbers. We want to be able to help parents boost their maths skills and help you to feel confident to support your children’s numeracy learning. Research shows that one of the most common reasons for adults wanting to improve their everyday maths is to be able to more confidently help children with homework. That’s why we have teamed with the charity National Numeracy to offer you the chance to learn online using the National Numeracy Challenge. The Challenge is a free and easy-to-use website which aims to help adults brush up on the numeracy skills which are needed in work and everyday life. Signing up gives you the chance to find out where your skills are, practise some of the things you find difficult and access online learning resources at the right level for you. Why not join the thousands of people in the UK who have started their journey to improved numeracy and register by following this link: https://www.nationalnumeracy.org.uk/challenge/? partner_code=sapsaq
