December Newsletter

December Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers, As the year draws to a close, 2023 has been another busy session for all in the St Anthony’s School community. The month of December has brought many fun and seasonal opportunities to our school: our Christmas Fayre, parties, P1-3 Nativity and M&M Productions presenting their pantomime to us this coming Friday. The festive spirit is definitely alive and well here! As we prepare to enter 2024, I wish everyone a safe, happy and holy Christmas. We very much look forward to everyone returning in January 2024. As ever, let us all keep Working Together for Excellence. Kind regards, Shirley May Carr St Anthony's December 2023 Newsletter Advent Mass On Friday 1st December, the whole school visited St Mary’s Parish Church for Mass at the beginning of Advent. This was led by Canon Martin and our P5 pupils helped out with Readings, the Responsorial Psalm and Prayers of the Faithful. All children were a credit to our school; their behaviour and show of respect was positively commented on by members of the parish community. Mrs Orderley This week we say a fond farewell to Mrs Elizabeth Orderley. Mrs Orderley has secured another position within North Ayrshire Council. We would like to thank her for all her hard work, commitment and dedication to her role as Education Business Assistant here at St Anthony’s. She will be missed by all in our school community. Mrs Church Mrs Church is currently off. We have appointed Miss Niamh Torrens to teach P3/4 in her absence. We look forward to welcoming back Mrs Church in due course. Daily Advent Assemblies As is our tradition, we have begun all days in December with services in both the upper and infant ends. These are led by staff who light the Advent candles and then read an extract from the Bible. This is followed by a prayer. These are times to reflect on the season of Advent and is a wonderful way to start each day. Christmas Fayre On Friday 1st December, our Parent Council held their annual Christmas Fayre. This was a huge success with many families and friends joining us. We were fortunate to be joined by a certain Mr Claus. The grand total of £2022.26 was raised on the day. This will help support all in the school. P1-3 Nativity Our P1-3 pupils performed A Big Little Nativity last week. On Wednesday 13th December, they performed to classes in the school. This was followed on Thursday by another performance for some of our partner agencies including Busy Bees Nursery, Caledonia Nursery and Arran View Care Home. The week culminated in another amazing performance in front of parents, carers and friends on Friday 15th December. The children acted and sang their hearts out. All who were lucky enough to watch it were blown away by all of our shining stars. Christmas Lunch On Wednesday 6th December, we held our Christmas Lunch. As always, our amazing catering team pulled out all the stops to serve up a great meal for all in our school community. We had lots of happy faces and full tummies! This week, Miss Cruickshank has visited all classes to give children more information about the roles and responsibilities of young carers.
