ST ANTHONY'S MARCH 2023 NEWSLETTER Welcome to our new look newsletter. This newsletter sees us come to the end of a very busy term here at St Anthony's. We have had lots of great experiences for all our pupils ranging from World Book Day, Church visits to our P6 pupils doing very well in the recent Euro Quiz. With the Easter holidays approaching, I wish all in our school community a happy and healthy holiday. We look forward to all our pupils returning for the final term of 2022/23. As ever, let us all keep Working Together for Excellence Kind regards Shirley May Carr HEADTEACHER'S WELCOME INTERGENERATIONAL COUNCIL Our Pupil Councils have been a great success this session. One of our councils, The Intergenerational Council has visited residents at Arran View Residential Care Home. The pupils met the residents, chatted with them and played games. It is hoped that we can continue with this on Friday afternoons. It is a good opportunity for our pupils to share their learning and hear of the experiences of some of our elderly community members. CHAMPIONS FOR CHANGE Every Monday in March our P5-P7 classes have been taking part in Champions for Change project. This is a project run by KA Leisure aimed at educating our young people about Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco. This is delivered through PE lessons where the children take part in activities and then discuss statements relating to each of the areas. A huge thanks to Jordan who has led these sessions for our young people. WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY Tuesday 21st March saw us celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. This is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for World Down Syndrome Day being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. Here you can see how we celebrated this day, coming to school wearing odd socks or snazzy socks! WORLD BOOK DAY On World Book Day, Thursday 2nd March, classes celebrated this with various activities including Booky Breakfasts, Kahoot quizzes and homework challenges. WALKING BUS Our Walking Bus continues to take place every Tuesday morning. The bus starts its journey at Burns Avenue near Moffat Wynd at 0830 and makes its way through the paths down to Lennox Wynd and then onto school. We are averaging around 20 passengers each week, however we would welcome many more! NO POO ON OUR SHOES The Rights Protectors Council have been very busy over the last few weeks forging a campaign to rid our community of dog poo. They conducted a survey on our recent Whole School Walk. As a result of this, they made some posters to raise awareness for local residents to ensure that all dog poo is picked up. These posters can be seen on lamp posts in the streets of our local area. SALTCOATS SEA CAPTAIN As many of you know, Saltcoats holds their annual Sea Queen Festival in July. We are delighted to share that Ronan from Primary 7 has been successful in securing the role of a Buccaneer. Ella has also been selected as a Lady-In-Waiting. They will be involved in many activities including the Gala Parade on Saturday 15th July. We are certain they will be great ambassadors for our school and our local community. IRISH DANCING We have some exciting news to share with you. Amelia from Primary 5/6 is heading to Canada for the Irish Dancing World Championships. This is a huge achievement! We have been lucky to to see Amelia, alongside her sister Sophie, perform on St Patrick's Day over the last few years. We are sure she will be a credit to herself, her family and her dance school. Go Amelia! CROSS COUNTRY Saturday 25th March saw the third North Ayrshire Schools Cross Country event of this year, held at St Matthew's Academy. We are, yet again, delighted with the turnout with 18 pupils representing our school. We extend a special mention to Lorena who won the Primary 6 Girls race for the third time. Almost all the regular runners are showing improvements in their timings each month, which is great to see. ARTICLE 31 I HAVE A RIGHT TO RELAX AND PLAY ARTICLE 31 - I HAVE A RIGHT TO RELAX AND PLAY
