Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to our January Newsletter. It has been a very busy start to 2024 with our Scottish Poetry Competition, Burns Supper, Whole School Walk, the introduction of our P6 and P7 Learning Cafe and P1- P4 Stay and Play. A huge thanks to parents and carers who continue to share their time and work with us to make these events the successes that they are. The remainder of this term will also be filled with lots of exciting learning opportunities for our children. As ever, let us all keep Working Together for Excellence. Kind regards Shirley May Carr St Anthony's January 2024 Newsletter Article 7- I have a right to a name and to belong to a country Burns Supper On Friday 26th January, P6 and P7 attended our annual Burns Supper. This was a lovely event where all who attended were treated to haggis, neeps and tatties followed by homemade shortbread. After this, they were entertained by the recitation of various Burns poems, toasts and musical performances from our chanter players. A huge thanks must go to P6 and P7 teachers for organising this event and for Mr Hunter who joined us to pipe in the haggis.
Sacrament of Confirmation On Tuesday 6th February in St John’s Chuch in Stevenston many of our P4 pupils will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation alongside pupils from St John’s Primary. Please keep these candidates in your thoughts and prayers as they take this next step in their journey of faith. Councils As mentioned in previous newsletters our whole school councils continue to go from strength to strength. All councils have now set targets for the rest of the session and these are being displayed in our dining hall. Councils meet at least twice a month and this is a great opportunity for pupils from all stages of the school to take part in vertical learning. We see great leadership qualities being developed in our all our pupils and increased confidence in our infant pupils. Beat the Street Beat the Street is a new initiative commencing on February 14th that will encourage pupils and families to actively travel both to and from school and also at the weekends. The games-based initiative works by “Beat Boxes” which are placed on lamp posts all around the local area. Children and parents are issued with bank card style cards. They can then register these cards onto the Beat the Street website and as they walk, cycle, scoot, wheel around the area they swipe the boxes and earn points for themselves and their school team. Children will be issued with a card over the next couple of weeks in school. Families can also collect extra cards at Tesco on High Road, Saltcoats Library and Morrisons in Stevenston. This initiative is for the whole community, not just for schools, and is aimed at encouraging active travel and improving health and wellbeing. Scots Poetry Competition On Thursday 25th January, Mrs Carr and Mrs Kerr were very impressed by the standard in our Scottish Poetry Competition. The recitals they heard were excellent. The job of choosing a top three proved to be hugely difficult. Please see below the pictures of all finalists and winners. A massive well done to all and thank you to all parents and carers for supporting this at home. Article 7- I have a right to a name and to belong to a country

Gold Rights Respecting School As you already know, St Anthony’s Primary School is now a Gold Rights Respecting School. Our whole school community has worked incredibly hard to build our knowledge, understanding and support of children’s rights and we are delighted that this has been recognised by UNICEF Rights Respecting School. We will be celebrating this by having a “Gold Day” on Friday 16th February. Our Rights Protectors Council are finalising details of this day. We can confirm that on the day we are asking all pupils to come to school wearing something gold or yellow. No Peanut Snacks At St Anthony’s, we have some pupils who have nut allergies. Exposure to nuts can cause them to suffer possible life threatening reactions. To support these pupils, we are reminding you that NO nuts are allowed in school at any point. As a school community, we are vigilant about this and request that everyone works together to help keep all in our school safe and healthy. Article 24: I have the right to good quality health care, to clean water and good food. Article 29 I have the right to an education which develops my personality, respect for others’ rights and the environment
