•Rizal's first impression of Barcelona, was the supreme city of Cataluna and
second biggest city of Spain, is not beautiful.
•Rizal thought the place is not pleasing to his eyes, for rent houses are dirty
and small, and people here don't have good manners. But after sometime
Rizal realized it is a great place with the atmosphere of freedom and
liberalism and the people living here are hospitable and brave.
•Rizal's pass time when staying here was to walk around Las Ramblas, a
well know street in Barcelona.
•Rizal wholeheartedly accepted the Filipinos in Barcelona and some of them
was Rizal's schoolmates in Ateneo.
•They had a small gathering at Rizal's favorite cafe, Plaza de Cataluña.
•Rizal wrote an essay "Amor Patrio" or "Pagmamahal sa bayan." First article
written while in Spain. And later on was sent to his friend in Manila, Basiolio
Teodoro Moran, publisher of Diaryong Tagalog, first newspaper in Manila
