Barnegat Goalkeepers Break Records During the Season

This year ’s
soccer season
brought
individual
success for two
seniors - both of
whom play the same
position. Seniors
Angelica Laudati
and Lucas Holland,
goalkeepers for
their respective
teams, each broke
the school’s record
for saves.

“This is truly an amazing
feat that both players broke
the record in the same year. I
don’t think we will ever see this
happen again,” James Smith,
junior sports fan, said.
The record for the girls
program was 613 career saves
and was held by Stephanie
Kosta. Laudati, who has been
playing soccer since she was six
years old, beat that record with
649 saves during her entire high
school career.
“I remember sitting at
the banquet as a freshman
looking at all the records and
saw 613 was the save record. I
thought that number was crazy
and I didn’t think I was going to
get even close to that,” Laudati
explains.
Laudati’s coach, Rick Blasi,
praised her for her impact on the
program.

but now I feel like it is kind of just overrated and
done with,” Amanda Ford, junior, said.
This is not the first time an app like this
has been released. There have been plenty of
apps in the past that have a similar concept.
The creator of gas, Nikita Bier also created an
app back in 2017 called TBH. This app had the
same exact concept as Gas - they are basically
the same apps with different names. TBH, which
stands for To Be Honest, got shut down due to
low usage and seeing as people already agree
with the fact that Gas is becoming overrated,
it’s not too far-fetched to see it being shut
down in the near future.
“Gas was at it’s prime last month, the app
itself is a way to see your status which fits into
the stereotype of cliques in High School,” Siena
Desai, junior, said.
Many of Barnegat High School’s students
claim that the app is just another way to show
off typical stereotypes that are displayed in
teenagers while being at school. Some of
the students agree that Gas brought back
memories of different apps that went viral a
couple years ago.
“I want the gas app to have more honest
questions. It would be better. Also, you should
be able to choose any person you want for
the questions instead of the random names it
generates.,” Adriana Mustillo, sophomore, said.
While this app can be seen as a
positive thing by giving compliments to all
your classmates, some people see it as an
anonymous way to hide behind a screen and
make fun of their classmates.
“Gas brought back 7th grade memories
which can be a good thing but at the same time
we are 16 years old and a lot of us are 18. This
generation needs to grow up.,” Camryn Gartner,
junior, said.
Regardess of their thoughts, a large majority
of high schol students either have, had, or at least
heard of the app Gas, so it is safe to say it made
an impact in Barnegat High School.
