SonoSummit 2019

Sonosummit held at Chennai Trade Centre from June 27th to 30th has turned out to be a
landmark event in the annals of IRIA. Nearly 1500 Radiologists from across the country actively
participated. Simultaneous parallel sessions and workshops with halls filled to capacity showed
keenness and enthusiasm of the delegates to learn and improve. Every topic in USG was covered
and live demos and workshops made it an academic feast catering to one and all. In an era when
non Radiology Associations are trying to monopolize USG, under fictitious captions, IRIA has
made it clear that USG belongs to the Radiologist. The so called National Speakers who teach
and train non Radiologists, were completely avoided and a new crop of young erudite speakers
was the find of the conference.

Kochi Chapter had 3 faculty members. Dr. M. R. Balachandran Nair gave a talk on practical tips to
image Pancreas and retroperitoneum. Lung Ultrasound by Dr. Amel Antony highlighted the
importance of the same in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Rijo Mathew gave talks on FI RADS and also
the ambitious project of IRIA named Samrakshan. The talks and interactive sessions was much
appreciated by the delegates. Other speakers from Kerala included Dr. K. Mohanan, Dr. Mathew
Thomas, Dr. K. Saneej & Dr. John De Lindsay. The future of USG appears to be bright and the
Sonosummit has left a lasting impression on young budding Radiologists to take up the challenge.
The trade section had all the vendors in Ultrasound and the machines used for live demos &
workshops, gave an opportunity to evaluate the machines as well.

Despite the water shortage the 4 day summit went off smooth and well, thanks to the Organizing
team lead by Dr. Amarnath and Dr. Murali Krishna. The central IRIA lead by President Dr. Hemant
Patel, Secretray General Dr. Rajeev Singh, Immediate Past President Dr. K. Mohanan, Vice
Presidents Dr. Amel Antony & Dr. Asutosh Dave and Treasurer Dr. Pushparaj Bhatele made sure
that there was no hitch whatsoever. The Central Committee Meeting of IRIA was held alongwith
the summit and President Dr. Hemant Patel, conducted the meeting in the most effecient manner
paving way for the passing of important matters regarding IRIA. The inauguration ceremony had
National President of IMA Dr. Santanu Sen as the chief guest. He is a proud Radiologist and also
a TMC MP. Dr Santanu Sen promised the support of IMA in the fight against some of the
draconian provisions of PC PNDT Act.

As the Summit concluded delegates felt that they are armed with knowledge and endowed with
confidence to practise and pursue USG at the highest level of excellence, rest assured that IRIA
as parent body would stand by them
