Presidents Column

Dear Colleague
Wishing you all a Happy Onam Season. Onam is one of the most significant and
famous festival celebrated with family and friends. As we all know, the festival is
celebrated to welcome the home-coming of the loved King 'Mahabali'. During
Mahabali's rule, all people lived a dignified and blissful life. We all should imbibe
the spirit of Onam, a symbol of unity and prosperity.
Kochi IRIA recently conducted a Resident Education Programme at IMA Hall, Kochi. The conference was
inaugurated by the National Vice President Dr. Amel Antony. About 150 delegates attended the meet. The
conference was a great success due to the earnest efforts of the faculty. I congratulate Dr. Rijo Mathew,
Secretary IRIA Kerala chapter, Dr. Ramesh Shenoy, Secretary, Kochi chapter IRIA, Dr. Rajesh Kannan, the
Scientific Co-ordinator and all faculty.
The next major scientific event at Kochi is the Third Annual Conference of Indian Society of Gastrointestinal
and Abdominal Radiology, which will be held at Hotel LeMeridien (27th to 29th Sept. 2019). I welcome you
all for this conference. The ISGAR conference will cater for the advances in Abdominal Imaging with Case-
based scenarios, Multidisciplinary practice-oriented and disease-focused approach and interactions with
the masters at the workshop. I assure you that ISGAR conference will be an academic feast. I request all the
consultants and residents to attend this great scientific conference.
With great pleasure, I invite all to Kollamcon 19, IRIA Kerala Mid Term CME to be held at Hotel Raviz, Kollam
on 13th Oct 2019 organised by Kollam Radiology Chapter, the youngest city chapter of IRIA Kerala. I
request all Radiologists and Residents to attend this conference and make it a grand success.

Dear Members of IRIA Kochi,
I am an extremely delighted and contended man as Secretary General of IRIA, to see
that now many more City Sub - Chapters of IRIA are being formed and activities are
ever increasing now even in City Sub - Chapters of IRIA to reach and benefit the
Radiologists practising in smaller cities.
This is a welcome sign towards involvement and participation of maximum of our
members to take our association scale new heights of vibrancy and glory and benefit
our members.
Kochi is one such City Sub - Chapter where lots of academic and association activities are going on. I
congratulate and thank them for same.
Newsletter is a good medium to communicate with its members and Kochi chapter's newsletter is
publishing its 4th issue soon. I am sure it will act as a catalyst for other cities to get inspired and follow suit.
I wish Kochi IRIA all the very best in their endeavour towards betterment of members of their chapter.

Kochi Chapter Monthly Meeting - Aug 2019, Report

IRIA Cochin Radiology Kochi Chapter monthly meeting was held on August 27th. This meeting was organised
by the department of Radio-Diagnosis, MOSC Medical College Hospital, Kolenchery, Ernakulam and supported
by Bayer Pharmaceuticals. The session started with inaugural address from the IRIA Kochi President, Dr.
Balachandran Nair, followed by program detailing by the academic co-ordinator Dr. Rajesh Kannan. The
program  started with case presentations by SRs of the Radiology Dpt , MOSC followed by the introduction of
MOSC Radiology Department by Dr. Rajeev Anand, HOD, and then Academic program consisting of
Subspeciality based multiple studies. These sessions were chaired by Dr. Sreekanth Moorthy, Dr. Anil Kumar
and Dr. Anusha Varghese. The session ended by vote of thanks by Dr. Mariyam Eapen, Professor of Radiology,
MOSC Medical College. The meeting was concluded by Dr. Amel Antony with organization matters.

Visit of National VP Dr. Amel Antony to Kollam City Chapter of IRIA
Senior National Vice President of IRIA, Dr. Amel Antony was accorded a rousing welcome at the monthly
meeting of Kollam City Chapter held on 20th Aug 2019 at Quilon Scan Centre Conference Hall at 7. 30 pm. He
was accompanied by the State Secretary Dr. Rjo Mathew, State Joint Secretary Dr. Ramesh S. Shenoy and
Kochi Chapter President Dr. M. R. Balachandran Nair. Dr. Vinod Sukumaran delivered an informative talk on
MRI of CNS Infections. Dr. Rijo Mathew, National Co-ordinator of IRIA Samrakshan project, gave a detailed
presentation on the scope aims and objectives of the project. He stressed on the importance of taking up
online training classes and documentation for creating an India specific Data Bank. Dr. Amel Antony, the
National Vice President, gave an outline of the various initiatives of National IRIA including Turf expansion
programme like Animal Imaging and Adult Echocardiography. Dr. Amel Antony also emphasized on good
practices within the ambit of PC PNDT Act and assured that IRIA is firmly committed to the welfare and
protecting the rights and privileges of its members. The National Vice President congratulated the Kollam
Chapter for their active participation and commitment to professional and academic requirements of its
members. He also urged the Chapter members to excercise their franchise in electing a new team of National
Executive so as to continue the great thrust and dynamism kick started by our President Dr. Hemant Patel. Dr.
Ramesh S. Shenoy explained the details of IRA App and requested the members to make use of it for better
communication. Dr. M. R. Balachandran Nair proposed further co-operation between Kochi and Kollam
Chapters and promised maximum registration for the upcoming Mid-term conference at Kollam. Dr. Amel
Antony and Dr. Rijo Mathew were felicitated by giving Ponnada. As the meeting concluded the members felt
that such interactions between the Office bearers and City Chapters would go a long way in strengthening the
fabric of our beloved IRIA.
