Hot Springs Music Festival will return this summer for another season! In order to keep
everyone safe, this year’s festival will be held in a virtual format. This will include per-
formances, master classes, rehearsals, and social gatherings that will be made available
online in real-time or to be viewed later at your convenience.
Hot Springs Music Festival
Returns Virtually
The internationally acclaimed Hot Springs Music Festival (HSMF) returns
this summer from June 7-11 after a one-year Co-Vid sabbatical.
This summer’s Festival will include master classes, rehearsals, solo and
chamber performances, and Q & A sessions, all offered virtually, both live and
archived.
Over the past 25 years the HSMF has established a positive international
image for Hot Springs. The Festival has hosted musicians from 25 nations. Festival
alumni have become professional musicians in many leading symphonies including
Cleveland, Dallas, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Hong Kong and Toronto.
Alumni have won numerous international competitions, most recently the 2020
Philadelphia International Music Festival.
Alumni have attended numerous leading Schools of Music including
Juilliard, Eastman, New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, and
Ecole Normal de Musique de Paris. Many Professors of Music are alumni, as are
many Conductors of leading orchestras, including the Chicago French Opera,
Dallas, San Diego and Munich. Sirius Classical Radio plays recordings from the
Festival, and Festival alumni formed an ensemble named Eighth Blackbird which
has won four Grammys.

The Hospice Doctor’s
Widow: A Journal
By Erin Wood
Jennifer A. O’Brien, a self-taught Little Rock artist whose work
supports those delivering end-of-life care for others, is the winner of a prestigious
Nautilus Book Award.
O’Brien’s book, The Hospice Doctor’s Widow: A Journal, was
honored with a Silver Award in the “Death & Dying/Grief & Loss” category.
Past nautilus award recipients have come from a diverse range of writers and
celebrated contributors including wellbeing pioneer Dr. Deepak Chopra, human
rights activist Desmond Tutu, and novelist Barbara Kingsolver. O’Brien said the
award validates the essential conversations surrounding end-of-life issues that
need to occur more often.
In the book, O’Brien chronicles her 22-month journey caring for her
husband, Bob Lehmberg, MD, who died of cancer in 2017. She takes readers
through a personal and frank conversation about her own reality—the same
reality facing millions of caregivers daily. O’Brien notes that, even before the
pandemic, about 53 million family caregivers spent up to 37 hours a week caring
for loved ones facing death.
“The conversations are especially important for those who are probably
going to outlive the person they are providing care for,” she said. “This book is
one attempt to help caregivers feel supported caring for others, while also taking
care of themselves. Caregiving for someone you love who is going to die is the
hardest job you will ever do and the greatest honor,” she said.
The Hospice Doctor’s Widow is an 8 x 10 premium color hardback book
available for order at etaliapress.com and through local and national booksellers.
A Hot Springs native, Erin Wood is a writer, editor, and publisher in
Little Rock. She owns and runs Et Alia Press (etaliapress.com). Wood is author
of Women Make Arkansas: Conversations With 50 Creatives (April, 2019) and
editor of and a contributor to Scars: An Anthology (2015).

Library to Host
Virtual Cake Contest
By Erin Baber
Next time you just have to bake a cake shaped
like a teddy bear, Elsa, or a Ninja Turtle, don’t rush out
and buy a brand-new cake pan – borrow one for free with
your Garland County Library card.
To promote the Library’s growing collection of
cake pans, the Library will host a cake contest throughout
June. Here’s how it works: borrow a cake pan from the
Library, bake a cake (or make a Jell-O mold), and post
a picture of your creation on social media using the tag
#GCLBakers.
At the conclusion of the contest, random
participants will be rewarded with gift cards and baking

Ten Cards, Michelle Crandell reviews four Twos.
Tarot: Twos
By Michelle Crandell
In Tarot, twos represent balance and harmony. Twos symbolize cooperation
and equality in relationships. Twos encourage the seeker to be open and receptive to
the influence of collaborators. Twos consider how uniting with another can improve
life for both. Associated Major Arcana cards: High Priestess and the Lovers.
Two of Swords: Justice is difficult to manifest. Look for win-win solutions
to problems. Pay attention to the consequences of your compromises. If you “go
along to get along,” you will regret it later. Stand up for what is fair, even if it makes
you uncomfortable.
Two of Cups: Positive partnerships are possible now. Deepen relationships
with partners, lovers, and friends who are “good to you and good for you.” Nurture
love, creativity, and inspiration in your unions with others.
Two of Wands: Business or legal collaborations lead to forward movement
and prosperity. Working with a powerful, knowledgeable person helps the seeker
maintain stability while making positive change. Combined forces create success.
“Nobody really does it alone.”
Two of Pentacles: Competing financial, career and/or homelife priorities
need to be balanced. Windfalls or sudden opportunities appear. Use them wisely.
Don’t count on them continuing.
