Page 1 Time Period

In 1608, people started to come over to New France. After a few
years the fur trade begins to become very popular. This led to more
French coming over and settling in New France to try and make
their fortune by the fur trade. When these people came over there
were more and more colonies being built, which led to cities and
trading posts being built too.

New France was founded in 1534 and was first claimed by Jacques
Cartier. Then, in 1608, The empire of New France was established in
Quebec by Samuel de Champlain. These foundings of New France
were the very beginnings of the French Fur Trade as they led to
people later moving to the places discovered.

Page 3 Maps of the Location

There are many different maps as well as styles for them so I put
together a few different maps on this page showing the location of
New France.

Page 4 goals of Early Exploration

The goals of early explorers were to find more land for France so
they could get more furs. They went to the New World and founded
the land now known as Canada. Here they were able to find beavers
and used them for their furs, but still could not get enough fur for
how in demand it is.

Page 5 Relationship With the Natives

The settlers of New France had trouble finding the beavers at first
and could not get enough furs. However, the Indians knew where to
search for the beavers so the settlers developed a good relationship
with the natives. They did this so they could trade with them for
furs with things that were easy for them to make but the natives
did not have. These trades allowed for the settlers to get many furs
to send back to France, making them a fortune.
