A world where everyone has a
decent place to live.
WHAT A YEAR! From the first ever Rock the Block on B Street, the
STAFF completion of four homes in the faith community, to a Bladen County
groundbreaking, our footprint is expanding and we are helping
exponentially more people improve their housing situations. We believe
that affordable housing is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and
Tammy Laurence, Executive Director our plan is to invest in the community’s greatest assets- its people.
Mark Brockett, Habitat ReStore Associate Becoming a homeowner is not without its challenges. The tremendous
investment of time and resources, not to mention the level of commit-
Ruthie Dent, VP Marketing & Special Events
ment required to volunteer 300 hours of sweat equity after a hard day’s
Adam Frechette, Construction Site Manager work, make our homeowners stand out. They are the backbone. They are
the changemakers.
Erica Gordon, VP Development
Sam Kirk is a mother to three sons, works full time, and paints alongside
Abigail Goldberg, VP Faith & Community Relations volunteers to complete the construction of her new home on Hedgepeth
Street. She is a changemaker. Her sons see it, and now her community
Victor JonPaul, Habitat ReStore Manager sees it.
Carl Mason, Habitat ReStore Associate
Ronald and Pamela Boyd-Merrick are completing their sweat equity
Maggie Mazaika, AmeriCorps VISTA, Family Services requirement by volunteering at the Habitat ReStore. They are the
greeters, the smiling faces, the ambassadors for something that is more
Rachel Moellmer, Asst. Habitat ReStore Manager than just a home improvement and donation center. They are
changemakers.
Patti Carlin Monroe, Finance & Office Coordinator
FAHFH completed 15 homes last year. In this annual report, you will see
Michael Pennink, VP Neighborhood Revitalization the data, the number of children that moved into a safe home, the dollar
amount returned to the property tax base. Statistics are important, but
Jimmy Teal, VP Family Services try to see to the heart of it. See the lives changed, the relief for families
that are sleeping in peace, families that enjoy more time with their

children and can see them live better.
Join us on the work site, pray with us at a home dedication. Join us as
positive changes take place in Fayetteville and Cumberland County- all
because of a home.

In partnership with community partners and the start of a strong coalition,
Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity kicked off neighborhood revitalization efforts
in the B Street area with the first ever Rock the Block on August 22, 2015.
The event drew in a crowd of over 300 with food, snow cones, live music from area
schools and bands, children’s activities, and a resource area with representation
from county agencies.
A unique, collaborative effort with the City of Fayetteville, the Fayetteville Police
Department, area churches, and representatives of different agencies to revitalize
the B Street area and launch programs prioritized by its citizens, the coalition’s goal
is to listen to the residents of B Street in order to transform the area with the ideas
they have in mind.
Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity was also one of ten Habitat affiliates chosen
to kickoff Women Build week with the first-ever Girls Night Out on Thursday, April
28, 2016.
Over 75 local volunteers and Lowe’s Heroes constructed the frame of a standard
Habitat home in the parking lot of the Lowe’s Home Improvement Store at 3909
Ramsey Street.
With concurrent DIY clinics and presentations by local Lowe’s
representatives, this event proved to be a huge success in its inaugural year and
earned the affiliate a $25,000 grant from Habitat International.
LOOKING AHEAD
On Friday, August 12, Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity kicked
off the construction of a home in Bladen County with a ground-
breaking ceremony. The Bladen County home marks the first
phase of FAHFH’s commitment to build one additional home in
both Bladen and Sampson counties thanks to funds from the State
Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation.
The SECU Foundation and Habitat for Humanity® of North Carolina
(HHNC) have signed a formal Memorandum of Agreement for a
joint initiative to expand affordable housing across North Carolina–
the SECU Habitat Mountains to the Sea Challenge. SECU
Foundation’s Challenge will provide a significant investment of $10
million over a three year period for HHNC to build one new (or
thoroughly renovated) home in each of NC’s 100 counties.
With the SECU Foundation’s pledge of up to $10 million in grants
and financing, Habitat has an opportunity to build in both the 75
counties that we are already serving and also in the 25 counties
that lie outside the service area of any one affiliate.
FAHFH is ready to take on the challenge and expand its service
area to our county neighbors who are in need of affordable
housing. County lines will not keep families from coming to us to
help them fulfill their dream of homeownership.
