The Good News of God's Forgiveness

This is the real historical account of the life of Jesus that shows us God's great love for all of humanity, His offer of forgiveness for all sins and the free gift of eternal life.

This is the true story of the life of Jesus Christ…the Savior of the world. This is not a book about a religion, that someone “converts” to. It is a book about a relationship…the relationship between God and man. It is a historical book based on real events that have happened throughout history. It is not philosophy, as all religion is. It is not man’s ideas or opinions. It is truth based on facts and evidence that has been proven time and time again to be true. It shows us what happened that caused man to have a broken relationship with God, and then what God’s plan is to bring man back into a right relationship with Him. God had a plan since the beginning of time to restore us back into relationship with Him, both for today and then into eternity in heaven forever.

Everything in this book is true. There is only one God, our Creator, who gives life to everyone and everything, and that there is only one way back to God and to heaven in the afterlife. This book of the life and teachings of Jesus will show you the way…the only way. No religion will help you to get right with God. In fact, all religions will cause you to end up separated from God for all eternity. This is because God only created you to have a personal relationship with Him and simply wants you back into this relationship. So He did something wonderful for you so that you can be forgiven of all your sin and come back into a personal relationship with Him. You’ll learn about it in this short book.

ANSWERS TO LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS WHERE DID I COME FROM? There is a God who created the heavens and the earth and every living thing in it. It is God who created all human life and has given life to each individual. He created you and this is where your life came from. We were all created in the image of our Creator. He is likened to a Father in heaven, and he is a good Father who loves us all very much. God knows you and loves you because He created you. He is a very intimate and personal God whom you can know on a very personal level. He is not far away and unknowable, but is very near to us and knowable. WHY AM I HERE? God brought you to this earth for a very special purpose. This was to enjoy a very real and personal relationship with the One who gave you life. God only desired that you know Him and be in right relationship with Him, both in this life and then onto eternity forever. But something happened to cause a break in the relationship between man and God.

THE PROBLEM Simply put, the problem is sin. It is our own sin that causes separation from God. We were all born with a sinful nature that naturally rebels against God. It is your own sin that causes you to not be able to know God or have a relationship with God. “Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” John 3:19 The penalty for our sin is death…eternal separation from God in a place of torment and judgement called Hell. This is the destination for all people unless something is done about it. We are all going to stand before a holy God who hates sin and will not tolerate any sin to enter into His eternal kingdom. WHAT IS SIN? Sin can be defined as anything we do (or don’t do), say, and even think, that isn’t pleasing to God. It’s basically disobedience to God and rebellion against God. It’s the breaking of His moral Law as given to us in the Ten Commandments. But the one sin that will damn a soul to eternal judgment separated from God and loved ones forever in a place called Hell is

that of not believing in Jesus Christ and the work He did on the cross to sacrifice Himself for our sins. It’s called the Sin of Unbelief. This is the one deadly sin that will send you to Hell for eternity. “He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: and he that does not believe in the Son will not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36 We then all do sinful things, which is a result of our sin of unbelief. We all sin and live as enemies of God and in open rebellion to Him. We do this because we are born with a sinful nature. We are all guilty of violating God’s moral Law. We’ve all lied, cheated, stolen, lusted after people, been sexually immoral outside of marriage (adultery), hated others (a murderous heart), dishonored our parents, used God’s name with disrespect (blasphemy), and worship other gods that we have created in our own minds (idolatry). These are the sins that will determine the level of judgment we will receive should we stand guilty before God of the sin of unbelief. God is so pure and holy that even your thoughts are going to be judged.

Fortunately, there is Good News. God offers forgiveness for your sin of unbelief and for all the others sins you have committed against Him over the course of your entire life. And He offers it freely by His grace and mercy because He loves you. This booklet will show you the way to God’s forgiveness for you. THE WRONG WAY TO GOD Many people erroneously think that they can earn favor with God and/or earn forgiveness from God by the following ways: • Following religion • Being morally good • Doing more good than bad • Doing good works But God never said that this was the way. Men in their own sin and pride made these things up in order to tell God how good they are. You can never work your way back to God. It’s not possible.

THE ONLY WAY TO GOD What you could never do on your own, Jesus Christ has already done for you. About two thousand years ago God became a human being, as the man Jesus, and came to earth to suffer and die on a cross for the sins of the world. It was a payment for you. It was a sacrifice offering to God, a life given for the life of another. Jesus, fully God and fully man, paid the price for your sin so that you can be forgiven and brought back into a right relationship with God. “I am the way and the truth and the life: no man comes to the Father but by me.” -Jesus (John 14:6) The provision has already been made for you by God. The work to save your soul has already been done. It is finished. God did this for you because He loves you and wants you to spend eternity in heaven with him. What God wants you to do in response is to repent of your sin and of your unbelief and then believe in Jesus and His work that He did for you on the cross. You transfer the trust in yourself to trust in the Savior. When you do this, you’ll be forgiven of every sin you ever committed and be granted the free gift of eternal life in heaven.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DIE? We will all stand to face our Creator to account for our life when we die. The Bible says it is appointed for a man to die once and then face judgment. All those who believed in Jesus and trusted in His redemptive work on the cross will be saved, avoid the judgment of God and be allowed entrance into heaven for eternity. All those who trusted in themselves and/or their religion (or both) and did not believe in Jesus and trust in Jesus alone for their salvation will be sentenced to a place of eternal judgment separated from God and loved ones for all eternity…otherwise known as Hell. “Verily, verily, I say to you, he that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and will not come into condemnation; but has passed from death unto life.” John 5:24

YOUR DESTINATION: A NEW BEGINNING It’s called the new birth. Jesus called it being “born again” (see John 3:3). You become a child of God, born into God’s family, restored back into a right relationship with God, the relationship that was lost due to sin. God changes you into the person that you were designed to be and you start living out the purpose for which you were created for. You’ll be assured entrance into heaven when you die because you have become a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

The Gospel of JESUS CHRIST As per the eyewitness account of the Apostle John…one who walked with Jesus From the Holy Bible King James Version [Contemporized] Note: What you are about to read is from a book called John from the Bible. It is one of sixty-six books in the Bible. This version of the book of John was taken from the King James Bible (Public Domain) but has been reformatted with contemporary English. The original language and vocabulary have remained unchanged. Only some grammar, speech tenses, punctuation and a few outdated words have been modified for easier to read modern English.

1 The Word Became Flesh 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7He came to be a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light, which gives light to every man who comes into the world. 10He was in the world, and though the world was made by him, the world knew him not. 11He came unto his own, and his own did not receive him. 12But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 15John bore witness of him, and cried out, saying, “This is he of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.” 16And of his fullness we have all received grace upon grace. 17For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 18No man has seen God at any time, but the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. The Testimony of John 19And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20And he confessed, and did not deny, confessing, “I am not the Christ.” 21And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elias?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22Then they said to him, “Who are you? That we may give an answer to them who sent us. What do you say of yourself?”

23He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord’”, as the prophet Isaiah said. 24And they who were sent were of the Pharisees. 25And they asked him, and said to him, “Why do you baptize then, if you are not the Christ, nor Elias, nor the prophet?” 26John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water: but there stands one among you, whom you do not know. 27It is he, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe latchets I am not worthy to unloose.” 28These things were done in Bethany beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. The Lamb of God 29The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me: for he was before me.’ 31And I did not know him: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, I came baptizing with water.” 32And John bore record, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it rested upon him. 33And I did not know him: but he that

sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me, ‘Upon whom you will see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, he is the same who baptizes with the Holy Ghost.’ 34And I saw and bore record that this is the Son of God.” Jesus Calls His First Disciples 35Again the next day John stood there with two of his disciples. 36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” 37And when the two disciples heard him speak, they followed Jesus. 38Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to him, “Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where do you stay?” 39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he stayed, and they stayed with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. 40One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41He first went to find his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42And he brought him to Jesus.

And when Jesus looked at him, he said, “You are Simon the son of Jona: you will be called Cephas,” which is by interpretation, a stone. Jesus Calls Philip And Nathanael 43The next day Jesus went into Galilee, and found Philip, and said to him, “Follow me.” 44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, “We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote about, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46And Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, “Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” 48Nathanael said to him, “When did you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49Nathanael answered and said to him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”

2 50Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51And he said to him, “Verily, verily,” I say to you, “From now on you will see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.” ----------------------------------------- Notes: Right from the start we see something of great importance – the Deity of Jesus Christ. Verse 14 says, “The Word became flesh and ‘lived’ among us.” This is talking about Jesus being fully God who manifested Himself as a human being. He is fully God and fully man at the same time. God came down to earth to be with his own creation, us, but His own creation would reject Him (v.11). And of second great importance is the reason He came…to take away the sin of the world (v.29). Everyone is part of the “sin of the world.” Jesus came for everyone, that includes you, to deal with our sin problem…to take our sin away and make us right with God. Water Into Wine – Jesus’ First Miracle of Many 1And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 and both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

3And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus sad to him, “They have no wine.” 4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what have I to do with you? My hour is not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants, “Whatever he said to you, do it.” 6And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins (twenty to thirty gallons) apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he said to them, “Draw out now, and bring to the governor of the feast.” And they brought it. 9When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made into wine, and knew not where it was from: (but the servants who drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10and said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets first the good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11This beginning of miracles Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

12After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brothers, and his disciples: and they continued there for some days. Jesus Angered at the Temple 13And the Jewish Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14And he found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting there: 15and when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; 16and said to them that sold doves, “Take these things now; do not make my Father's house a house of merchandise.” 17And his disciples remembered that it was written, “The zeal of your house has eaten me up.” 18Then the Jews answered and said to him, “What sign will you show to us, seeing that you do these things?” 19Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20Then the Jews said, “Forty-six years this temple was built, and will you raise it in three days?” 21But he spoke of the temple of his body. 22When he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that

3 he had said this to them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. 23Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. 24But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men. 25And he did not need any testimony of man: for he knew what was in man. ------------------------------------------------- Notes: Jesus gave the first prediction of his death and resurrection here in verse 19. Jesus made it very clear that this was the plan all along and that this is what was going to happen to him, that He would be crucified, buried and then three days later be risen back from the dead. And that’s exactly what happened. The real historical account from every source at that time verifies this event. Jesus and a Religious Man 1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2The same came to Jesus by night, and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God: for no man can do these miracles that you do, except God be with him.”

3Jesus answered and said to him, “Verily, verily, I say to you, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Verily, verily, I say to you, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot not tell where it comes from and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” 9Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can these things be?” 10Jesus answered and said to him, “Aren’t you a master of Israel, and you do not know these things? 11Verily, verily, I say to you, we speak what we do know, and testify to that we have seen; and yet you do not receive our witness. 12If I have told you earthly things, and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you of heavenly things? 13And no man has ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, the Son of man, who is from

heaven. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.” 16For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believes in him is not condemned: but he that does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, but men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For every one that does evil hates the light, and will not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21But he that lives by the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are in view of God. John the Baptist Testifies Again About Jesus 22After these things Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. 23And John also was baptizing

in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. 24For John was not yet cast into prison. 25Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. 26And they came to John, and said to him, “Rabbi, he that was with you beyond Jordan, to whom you bore witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him.” 27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. 28You yourselves bore witness of me, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I am that sent before him.’ 29He who has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy is therefore fulfilled. 30He must increase, but I must decrease.” 31He that comes from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: he that comes from heaven is above all. 32And what he has seen and heard is that what he testifies to; but no man receives his testimony. 33He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true. 34For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God: for God gives the Spirit without measure to him. 35The Father loves the Son, and has given all

4 things into his hands. 36He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: and he that does not believe in the Son will not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him. ------------------------------------------------ Notes: We see here some of the most important words ever recorded in the history of mankind. First, that a person must be born again to enter into heaven (v.3) and that salvation only happens by believing in Jesus. There is a very clear defining mark here: Those who believe will enter into heaven (v.16), those who don’t believe will face God’s judgment (v.18). If you haven’t been born again of the Spirit of God, which happens only through genuine faith in Jesus, it doesn’t matter what you believe, you can’t enter into heaven. Being born again starts with believing. Another important factor here is that we see why people reject God…because of their love for sin and self (v.19- 20). It’s not that people don’t believe in God, it’s that they don’t want to because they love their sinful lives. People would rather live in sin and for themselves than walk in the Truth of God and receive forgiveness, salvation and the free gift of eternal life. God doesn’t send anyone to Hell, people choose it for themselves. Jesus Meets a Woman at a Well 1When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that he made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (Though Jesus himself did not

baptize, but his disciples did,) 3he left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. 4And he had to go through Samaria. 5Then he came to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat down on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. 7There came a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus said to her, “Give me something to drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away to the city to buy meat.) 9Then the woman of Samaria said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.) 10Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that said this to you, ‘Give me something to drink;’ you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water.” 11The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from where then do you have that living water? 12Are you greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank there of himself, and his children, and his cattle?”

13Jesus answered and said to her, “Whosoever drinks of this water will thirst again: 14But whosoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst; the water that I will give him will be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” 15The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, that I will thirst no more, neither to come here to draw.” 16Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and have him come.” 17The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband:’ 18For you have had five husbands; and he who you now have is not your husband: in that you said is true.” 19The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and you say that in Jerusalem is the place where men should worship.” 21Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour has come, when you will neither in this mountain nor at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22You worship what you do not know: we do know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23But the hour

has come, and is now, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. 24God is a Spirit: and they who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” 25The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming, which is called Christ: when he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26Jesus said to her, “I that speak to you am he.” The Disciples Return 27And at this time came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, “What do you seek? or, “Why do you talk with her?” 28The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” 30Then they went out of the city, and came to him. 31In the meantime his disciples urged him, saying, “Master, eat.” 32But he said to them, “I have meat to eat that you do not know of.” 33Therefore the disciples said to one to another, “Has any man brought him something to eat?

34Jesus said to them, “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35Do not say, ‘There are still four months, and then comes the harvest?’ Behold, I say to you, ‘Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.’ 36And he that reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit unto life eternal: that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together. 37And here is that true saying, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’ 38I sent you to reap that where you bestowed no labor: other men labored, and you have entered into their labor.” Many Believe 39And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman who testified, “He told me all that ever I did.” 40So when the Samaritans came to him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. 41And many more believed because of his own word. 42And they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of your saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

Jesus Heals a Dying Son 43 Now after two days he departed there, and went into Galilee. 44For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. 45Then when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went to the feast. 46So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water into wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went to him, and besought him that he would come down and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48Then said Jesus to him, “Except you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.” 49The nobleman said to him, “Sir, come down or my child will die.” 50Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son will live.” And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken to him, and he went his way. 51And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, “Your son lives.” 52Then he enquired of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

5 53So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in which Jesus said to him, “Your son will live:” and he believed, and his whole house. 54This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he had come out of Judaea into Galilee. ------------------------------------------------ Notes: The ‘living water’ Jesus speaks about in verse ten is referring to eternal life. Jesus is the one who offers this ‘living water’ freely to all who want it. Jesus was able to tell the woman ‘everything she did’ (v.29) because Jesus is God and He knows everything about everyone. This means that He knows everything about you also. And we have another clear affirmation here that Jesus is the Savior of the world (v.42). He came to save. That was His mission. He came to save us from our sins. Jesus Christ came to save sinners. Jesus Provides Healing at a Pool 1After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In this lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. [4] 5And a certain man was there, who had an infirmity for thirty-eight years. 6When Jesus

saw him lying there, and knew that he had been a long time in that case, he said to him, “Would you like to be made whole?” 7The impotent man answered him, “Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am getting in, another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” 9And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked: and this same day was the Sabbath. 10The Jews therefore said to him that was cured, “It is the Sabbath day: it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.” 11He answered them, “He that made me whole, the same said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’” 12Then they asked him, “What man is that who said to you, “Take up your bed and walk?” 13And he that was healed did not know who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. 14Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you are made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing comes to you.” 15The man

departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole. The Son’s Authority 16And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Sabbath day. 17But Jesus answered them, “My Father works here now, and I also work.” 18Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because not only had he broken the Sabbath, but also said that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. 19Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Verily, verily, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things he does, these also the Son does likewise. 20For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does: and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel. 21For as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he will. 22For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment to the Son: 23that all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who has sent him.

24“Verily, verily, I say to you, he that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and will not come into condemnation; but has passed from death unto life. 25Verily, verily, I say to you, the hour is coming, and is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear will live. 26For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27and has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. 28 “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming in which all that are in the graves will hear his voice, 29and will come forth; they that have done good unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation. 30I can of my own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the Father who has sent me. Witnesses About Jesus 31 “ If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. 32There is another that bears witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesses of me is true.

33“You sent to John and he bore witness to the truth. 34But I do not receive the testimony from man: but these things I say, that you might be saved. 35He was a burning and a shining light: and you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. 36“But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father has given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me. 37And the Father himself, who has sent me, has borne witness of me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. 38And you do not have his word abiding in you: for whom he has sent, he does not believe. 39Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are that which testify of me. 40And you will not come to me, that you might have life. 41“I do not receive honor from men. 42But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me: if another will come in his own name, him you will receive. 44How can you believe, of you who receive honor of one another, and do not seek the honor that comes only from God?

6 45“Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom you trust. 46For had you believed Moses, you would have believed me; for he wrote of me. 47But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?” ----------------------------------------------- Notes: [4] Verse 4 has been removed because it is not found in many of the older Greek manuscripts that were discovered after this translation was made. The healing of the man at the pool bears further witness to the deity of Jesus. This was a paralyzed man who could not walk. And Jesus just commands that the man be healed. No man has the power to heal. Only God could do something like this. Jesus was always so clear and concise in all that He said. You don’t have to try and figure out what He was trying to say. Even a young child can understand. In verse 24 Jesus makes another clear statement about salvation: believe and be saved. It’s that simple. What about you? Do you understand what He is saying? Jesus Feeds Five Thousand People 1After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2And a great multitude followed him because they saw his miracles which he did on them who were diseased.

3And Jesus went up to a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. 4And the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. 5When Jesus lifted up his eyes and saw a great company coming to him, he said to Philip, “Where will we buy bread that they may eat?” 6And he said this to prove to him: for he himself knew what he would do. 7Philip answered him, “Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.” 8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, 9“There is a lad here, who has five barley loaves, and two small fish: but what are they among so many?” 10And Jesus said, “Make the men sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were sitting down; and likewise of the fish as much as they wanted. 12When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing will be lost.” 13Therefore they gathered them together and filled twelve baskets with the fragments

of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above to them that had eaten. 14Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, “This is the prophet who is to come into the world.” 15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again to a mountain alone by himself. Jesus Walks On Water 16And when the evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, 17and entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not come with them. 18And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. 19So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the ship: and they were afraid. 20But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land to where they went. 22The day following, when the people who stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save that one where into his disciples entered, and that Jesus did not go with his

disciples in the boat, but that his disciples had gone away alone; 23(How is it there came other boats from Tiberias near to the place where they ate the bread, where the Lord had given thanks:). 24When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took a ship, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. Jesus is the Bread of Life 25And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26Jesus answered them and said, “Verily, verily, I say to you, you seek me not because you saw the miracles, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27Do not labor for meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him God the Father has sealed.” 28Then said they to him, “What should we do that we might work the works of God?” 29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe on him whom he has sent.”

30They said therefore to him, “What sign will you show us then, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do? 31Our fathers ate manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” 32Then Jesus said to them, “Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven, and gives life unto the world.” 34Then said they to him, “Lord, give us this bread.” 35And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life: he that comes to me will never hunger; and he that believes on me will never thirst. 36But I said to you, that you also have seen me and believe not. 37All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him that comes to me I will in no way cast out. 38For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him that sent me. 39And this is the Father's will who has sent me, that of all which he has given me I should lose nothing, but will raise them up again at the last day. 40And this is the will of him who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

41The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” 42And they said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that he said, ‘I came down from heaven?’” 43Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Murmur not among yourselves. 44No man can come to me, except the Father who has sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. 45It is written in the prophets, ‘And they will all be taught of God.’ Every man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes to me. 46Not that any man has seen the Father, save he which is of God, he has seen the Father. 47Verily, verily, I say to you, he that believes in me has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50This is the bread that came down from heaven, that a man may eat of, and not die. 51I am the living bread who came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he will live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” 52The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53Then Jesus said to them, “Verily, verily, I say to you, except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and

drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood, dwells in me and I in him. 57As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eats of me, even he will live by me. 58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead: he that eats of this bread will live forever.” 59These things he said in the synagogue as he taught in Capernaum. It’s Hard to Follow Jesus – Many Walk Away 60Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, “This is a hard saying; who can hear it?” 61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at him, he said to them, “Does this offend you? 62What if you see the Son of man ascend up to where he was before? 63It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you that do not believe.” For Jesus knew

from the beginning who they were that did not believe, and who would betray him. 65And he said, “Therefore I said to you, that no man can come to me, except it were given to him of my Father.” 66From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Will you also go away?” 68Then Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69And we believe and are sure that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 70Jesus answered them, “Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?” 71He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for it was he that would betray him, being one of the twelve. ------------------------------------------ Notes: When Jesus talks about the eating of the bread, and of his flesh and drinking of his blood, he is simply talking about believing in the entirety of who He is and all the work that He has done. Only Jesus has the words of eternal life (v.68). He is the only one in all of human history to proclaim the way to eternal life and to give assurance of it. No one has ever spoken of eternal life. Others have come along and only spoken of mere human philosophy and made up ideas of what might or might not happen when we die. But not Jesus. He gave us the clear way to eternal life and how to obtain it.

7 Jesus Goes To A Festival 1After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand. 3His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart now, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see the works that you do. 4For there is no man that does anything in secret, and he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” 5For his brothers did not believe in him. 6Then Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come: but your time is always ready. 7The world cannot hate you; but it hates me, because I testify of it, that the works thereof it are evil. 8Go up to this feast: I will not go up yet to this feast: for my time has not yet come.” 9When he had said these words to them, he stayed in Galilee. 10But when his brothers had gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?” 12And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, “He is a good man:” others said, “No; he deceives the people.”

13Yet no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews. Jesus Teaches At The Festival 14Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this man know these words, having never learned?” 16Jesus answered them, and said, “My doctrine is not mine, but his who sent me. 17If any man will do his will, he will know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. 19Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keep the law? Why then do you go about to kill me?” 20The people answered and said, “You have a devil: who goes about to kill you?” 21Jesus answered and said to them, “I have done one work, and you all marvel. 22Moses gave to you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and you on the Sabbath day circumcise a man. 23If a man on the Sabbath day receives circumcision so that the law of Moses should not be broken; are you angry at me because I have made a

man completely whole on the Sabbath day? 24Do not judge according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” They Can’t Decide Who Jesus Is 25Then said some of them of Jerusalem, “Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? 26But, lo, he speaks boldly, and they say nothing to him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? 27How is it we know where this man is from: but when Christ comes, no man knows where he is from.” 28Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, “You both know me, and you know where I am from: and I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you do not know. 29But I know him: for I am from him, and he has sent me.” 30Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31And many of the people believed on him, and said, “When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than these which this man has done?” 32The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. 33Then said Jesus to them, “Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go to him who sent me. 34You

will seek me, and will not find me: and where I am, there you cannot come.” 35Then said the Jews among themselves, “Where will he go, that we will not find him? Will he go into the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? 36What manner of saying is this that he said, ‘You will seek me, and will not find me: and where I am, there you cannot come?’” 37In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.” 39(But this he spoke of was the Spirit, which they who believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.) 40Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, “Of a truth this is the Prophet.” 41Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Will Christ come out of Galilee? 42Has not the scripture said that Christ will come of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” 43So there was a division among the people because of him. 44And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

Jewish Leaders Don’t Believe 45Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, “Why have you not brought him?” 46The officers answered, “Never a man has spoken like this man.” 47Then the Pharisees answered them, “Are you also deceived? 48Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? 49But these people who do not know the law are cursed.” 50Nicodemus said to them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) 51 “Does our law judge any man before it hears him, and knows what he does?” 52They answered and said to him, “Are you also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee arises no prophet.” 53And every man went to his own house. -------------------------------------------------- Notes: Why does the world hate Jesus so much (v.7)? Because He speaks the truth. He confronts people with their sin and warns them of judgment. He’s the only one in history to tell people that they are all sinners and heading towards judgment. This is why people hate

8 Jesus, because He tells them what they already know deep down inside. In case you don’t know who the Pharisees are by now, they are the Jewish religious leaders, the ones who supposedly held strictly to the Law of God. But they were all hypocrites, and never did what they told others to do. These were the ones who were supposed to know the Scriptures that foretold of Jesus. But they didn’t because they were blind and didn’t really care about God, but only cared about maintaining power and position in their own religion. The truth was not important to them. What about you? Is the truth important to you? Are you willing to look deep into your own self and acknowledge your own sin? A Woman Caught In Adultery 1 Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives. 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him; and he sat down and taught them. 3And the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to him, “Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what do you say?” 6This they said, tempting him, that they might have something to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with

his finger wrote on the ground, as though he did not hear them. 7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them, “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.” 8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest, even to the last: and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing in the midst. 10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw no one but the woman, he said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no man condemned you?” 11 She said, “No man, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more.” They Question Jesus’ Testimony 12Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying, “I am the light of the world: he that follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13The Pharisees therefore said to him, “You bear record of yourself; your record is not true.” 14Jesus answered and said to them, “Though I bear record of myself, my record is true: for I know

where I am from, and to where I go; but you cannot tell where I come from, and to where I go. 15You judge after the flesh; I judge no man. 16And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. 17It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. 18I am one that bears witness of myself, and the Father that sent me bears witness of me.” 19Then said they to him, “Where is your Father? Jesus answered, “You neither know me, nor my Father: if you had known me, you would have known my Father also.” 20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour had not yet come. Where Jesus is Going 21Then Jesus said again to them, “I go my way, and you will seek me, and will die in your sins: where I go, you cannot come.” 22Then the Jews said, “Will he kill himself? Because he said, ‘Where I go, you cannot come.’” 23And he said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above: you are of this world; I am not of this world. 24I said therefore to you, that you will die in your sins: if you don’t believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”
