sometimes
in the right place
when the timing is right
out of the corner of your eye magic
There is more going on
when we take time to notice layer on layer of the everyday.
Savage heart-stopping change
futile attempts to control the river god

and in an attempt to balance and reconcile the damage done elsewhere by others
climbs the bank
weeping onto our streets
prophetic wails of impending destruction threatening our imagined security.
Who knows the words anymore?
Who asks questions capable of bringing about change?
Do speed and noise deafen our capacity to act in time?
If we wanted to could we?
Was it ever thus?
