WELL, ACTUALLY WE DO THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENT
HERE AT BOSSIFYE MAGAZINE.

WE PREFER YOU TO JUST READ.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Readers,

I find it necessary to speak on the
recent bigoted and racist acts of white
supremacists (KKK) and self-proclaimed
Nazis in Charlottesville, VA. They are
the equivalent to terrorists and there is
no light or sugar coated manner in
which to make that statement. This
country spends so much time looking
over our shoulders for foreign threats
but if we were to be brutally hon-
est...America is the biggest threat to
America. History has proven that and it
is forever embedded in this nation’s
roots. The president of the United
States, Donald Trump, made no effort to
denounce racist terrorism committed by
Americans & he continues to cause di-
vision instead of unity.

I am logical enough to know that
racism will outlive us all but I am strong
enough to fight against it until my last
breath. Personally, I always stand firm
on my belief of no matter what race we
are, we are still a part of the human race. Even through the roughest of
times, I dare not lose my humanity. Regardless of skin color, gender, sexu-
ality or religion, don’t let the acts of some bad apples be your view of the
whole bunch. There are good people in this world just as there are bad.
Choose to be good...but never choose to be silent against injustice.

If you ever have an opinion to share or would like to ask me a ques-
tion, feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will be sure to
respond privately or publicly. As always I cannot thank you all enough for
all the support and I hope that you thoroughly enjoy Issue 005 of Bossifye
Magazine. Peace & Blessings.

On Saturday, August 26th, Floyd Mayweather Jr., did exactly
what he said he would do. This super-fight of the greatest boxer alive
versus the top ranked UFC fighter had a lot of trash talking back and
forth from both sides. Conor McGregor is known for his one of a kind
and sometimes “too far” statements and he was pretty adamant that
he would land a knockout and be the first to defeat the boxing legend.
Floyd, on the other hand, assured the world that he would not only
win but guaranteed that the fight would not last a full 12 rounds.

(screenshot of pay-per-view fight footage)

It has been a long time since we have seen a knockout from
Mayweather so no one really took that part of his prediction seriously.
Most people assumed that he would either win by decision or lose by
getting knocked out. There wasn’t much in between. Well, to our sur-
prise he wasn’t kidding and before the 10th round could end, the fight
was stopped after McGregor was bombarded with nonstop power
punches from the “Money Man”.

TRE

It’s not often that you come across rappers
with an original sound nowadays. However,
that definitely is not the case with Alabama
native T-Dove Tre. Born in Aliceville, AL
and now residing in Birmingham, Tre has a
very distinct flow and delivery of his own
that sets him apart from other artists. He
has been in the game as an independent
artist for quite some time and has dedicated
himself to his craft. Check out his interview
below.

BY T.R. BRYANT

Has music always been your passion &
when did you first start writing?

T-Dove Tre: Yes music has always been my passion. I started writing at the age of 13. It started
in my neighborhood, I was chilling with Reginald Campbell. This guy could make up raps about
any topic you throw at him. So I went home, wrote a paragraph and ran back over to his house
and spit it (Lol). I didn’t have no delivery at all. Then me and my classmate Crystale Blair used to
write little short rhymes in class. We use to pass them back and forth (Lol). Others thought we
were writing love letters. I can laugh about that still today.

Who were some of your musical influences?

T-Dove Tre: I grew up around the 2Pac/Biggie Small era. I also vibe to KRS One, Ice Cube,
Snoop Dogg, Mobb Deep, Dougie Fresh, Easy E and it’s a few more.

You released your first single, “certified G” in 2010 so you have been in the game officially
for 7 years now. What has the journey been like as an independent artist?

T-Dove Tre: Yes, that’s correct I released my first single “Certified G” in 2010. The journey has
been real as an independent artist having to do everything on your own. I’ve had some ups and
downs since I started. Nobody said it was going to be an easy journey so I was prepared for it a
little.

Sky Rockets to #1 on the Billboard Charts & makes
history in the process!

(footage screenshot of Cardi B performing at Mayweather/McGregor weigh in) 10

From viral videos on social media to reality television & on to becoming an abso-
lute superstar! The world has watched the career of rapper, Cardi B, go from zero
to one hundred...real quick! Some people underestimated the likelihood of her mu-
sic career taking off but let the records show that this newcomer is now #1 on the
Billboards Hot Rap Songs. To take things a step further, she is now the second
artist in Billboard history to have the fastest rise to number one status on the
charts. Psy, the singer of the infamous Gangnam Style, was the first to have a rec-
ord breaking rise to number one back in 2012. Whether you are a fan of Cardi’s
music or not, no one can deny her star power at this point. She has taken com-
plete control of her career. We here at Bossifye definitely respect her grind!

BY T.R. BRYANT MICHAEL
ANSELMO

Have you ever met someone who possesses the type of the kindness that you wish
the whole world had? Well, we have and his name is Michael Anselmo. His compassionate
heart is one that’s worth acknowledging in a public manner. He has been rooting us on since

day one and he does the
same to others. The genu-
ineness that stems from
his encouraging words al-
ways manages to put a
smile on the faces of oth-
ers.

Michael faced a life
changing tragedy years
ago when he lost his pre-
cious son to a medical
condition and he daily
keeps the memory of his
angelic prince alive. Hav-
ing experienced one of
the worst losses a parent
could ever face, he has
managed to still be a shin-
ing light upon the world.
Since the first day we met
him, we’ve continuously
seen him be the first to
lend a helping hand to
those in need.

Bossifye Magazine would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Michael for all the
support he has shown us along the way and it has never gone unnoticed. Sometimes people
deserve a thank you for simply being who they are. So, to Mr. Michael Anselmo, we say to
you sir, Thank You!

16 BOSSIFYE MAGAZINE ISSUE 005 (2017)

BOSSIFYE MAGAZINE ISSUE 005 (2017) When it comes to Bossifye Magazine,
you can say that it’s ran by a one woman
team. Born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC,
T.R. Bryant, is a woman who wears many
hats. That can be taken literally and meta-
phorically, by the way. She has been an en-
trepreneur since 2015 with two businesses
under her belt and a third set to be launched
very soon. However, writing will always be
her first love and she is set to become an of-
ficial author/poet with her upcoming poetry
book, “CHARM”.

For those who know T.R. Bryant
(simply known to them as “Tip”), she isn’t
known for sharing much of an emotional side
in a public manner. She does not wear her
heart on her sleeve. “CHARM” is more than
likely the most personal book that she will
ever release. Check out this special exclu-
sive below to find out why.

What is the basis of “CHARM”?

T.R. Bryant: “CHARM” is a collection of po-
ems that reflect on my one and only experi-
ence of being in love.

Is this a past or present experience?

T.R. Bryant: It’s a part of my past. However, I
have no regrets and still consider her to be
an amazing woman so I’m reflecting on the
positive memories.

Being that you’re writing about a romantic
experience with a woman, do you ever
worry about being judged?

T.R. Bryant: No. I am who I am. I harbor no
form of shame for living my truth. I respect
the beliefs of others but it doesn't dictate how
I live my life; and it definitely doesn’t dictate
what I choose to write about.

you to become a writer?
So why write about the past? Do you T.R. Bryant: Yes of course. I always

script writing for films.

What do you love most about writing?

T.R. Bryant: Just the sense of peace I
receive from it. It gives me the kind of
peace that always lets me know that I’m
walking in my purpose. I would say that

Back to “CHARM”, what’s the main thing you want people to know about the book?
T.R. Bryant: Basically I just want to make it clear that this is not a “gay” book. I don’t want peo-
ple to assume that because a gay woman wrote it, only gay people will relate to it. That is not
the case. Anyone who has been in love before, despite gender or sexuality, will be able to re-
late. Love is a feeling. Period.
When is it set to be released?
T.R. Bryant: It was scheduled to be released in August but after my ex agreed to write a state-
ment and gave permission to use photos, I went to do some re-editing. So people can expect to
get their hands on it late September or early October.
Working on any other books?
T.R. Bryant: ALWAYS!

TAWANNA JOHNSON

BY T.R. BRYANT

Bossifye Magazine is more than
pleased to honor Ruby Lips, LLC as our
featured business of the month. This is not
just any ordinary make-up company. This,
my friends, is an empire.

Ruby Lips is one of the most popular
and successful independent cosmetic lines
on the market and the 1st African American
owned manufacturer of vegan cosmetics in
bulk for NC. It is created, packaged and
sold by the one and only, Tawanna John-
son (pictured to the right). With an Insta-
gram following of over 58,000, she has cer-
tainly made her mark in the industry and
has no plans of slowing down. We recently
caught up with this powerful businesswom-
an for an interview about how this
“queendom” of hers came to life.

When did you learn to create the ac-
tual makeup yourself & what was
the first product you made?

Tawanna Johnson: In 2013, I mixed
lip gloss and eyeshadow to make my
own lipstick. The gloss was either too
shiny or sticky. I started researching
ingredients on makeup packaging. It
was all a blur to me & I was fascinated
with learning. I started taking online
chemistry classes to learn everything.

How long did it take for you to turn
it into a business?

Tawanna Johnson: I already had my
associate’s in business management
so I had a general idea. It took me a
year of mixing formulas & testing be-
fore I realized it’s time to launch.

You stated that the business was
vegan friendly. Why was it im-
portant for you to go that route?

Tawanna Johnson: Most of the ingre-
dients in popular cosmetics are toxic.
When lip products are worn when we
eat or drink, we don’t stop to think
about what did I just digest into my
body. It began my mission to educate.

The cosmetic industry is not only
wide but also very competitive. Did
you have any fears early on about

Tawanna Johnson: My best selling products are my high- 23
lighters. In 10 months I’ve sold 3,000 pieces. Liquid lipstick is
my 2nd best, offering a wide range of colors and textures.

Social media plays a major, if not the biggest role nowa-
days in the success of most companies. So how has it
benefited the success of Ruby Lips?

Tawanna Johnson: 80% of my customers & clients I’ve
gained through social media. Word of mouth is very power-
ful.

What advice would you give new entrepreneurs about
using social media as growing method to gain custom-
ers?

Tawanna Johnson: Social media is very valuable. It’s im-
portant to stay engaged at least 4 times a week. Pay for ads
starting with small budget and reach out to those who have a
huge following and collaborate.

BOSSIFYE MAGAZINE ISSUE 005 (2017)

You are very driven. I mean, it takes a FACEBOOK:
certain type of person to not only start Tawanna RubyLips
but keep a business moving forward.
Where would you say you got your drive Johnson
from & what keeps you motivated?
INSTAGRAM:
Tawanna Johnson: I got my drive from my @Rubylipsllc
family. I’m the oldest of six. They look up to
me still as adults. That means a lot to me.
My kids keep me motivated to grow this
business so they can take over one day.

What’s next for Ruby Lips LLC?

Tawanna Johnson: Working on a few col-
laborations with other cosmetic lines. My
goal is to show women we are powerful
when we work together.

I end all my interviews the same way. I
ask one simple question. Using just 3
words to describe yourself, who is Ta-
wanna Johnson?

Tawanna Johnson: Ambitious. Bold. Suc-
cessful.

On August 18, 2017, the First Annual
“Love Your Beans” Kids Prom was held.
This event was put together by kidney can-
cer survivor, Tawanda Harris in order to
bring awareness and raise funds. She has
been fighting this illness since the day we
met her and she has a strength that is be-
yond inspiring.

The special DJs for the event was
none other than Zahria Peoples aka DJ Puff
and Dontavious Kingberry aka DJ Don K.
They were coached by the only & only radio
personality/DJ, Jo Jo Peoples. Check out
some of the photos from the “Love Your
Beans” Kids Prom!
