at Group and division level to make adi an even
better place to work.

Behind the scenes we have already begun taking steps to further improve
our workplace engagement and connectivity. In quarter one, we have
taken measures to roll out email to all adi Group employees in a bid to help
us reach those members of the team based remotely. This now means
we can instantly communicate with each one of you – it also means you
can communicate much easier with us. Forming part of our employee
engagement strategy, we are confident that widening email access will
provide staff with a clearer communications link with adi Group’s purpose,
vision and progress.

We were also proud to end 2017 with industry recognition in a number of
key regional and industry-led awards ceremonies from the Birmingham
Post Business Awards, EEF Future Manufacturing Awards through to
The Manufacturer’s MX Awards recognising our partnership with North
Bromsgrove High School and our corporate social responsibility programme.
I’d like to again extend a thanks to you, the whole adi Group team, without
whom initiatives such as this would not be possible. We look forward to
building on the momentum we achieved in 2017 and expect to build our
CSR programme at division level to further impact on communities and
crosses across the UK and Ireland.

We continue to reinforce our senior management team and structure as
we make the transition towards our 2020 growth plans. As part of this
process we are currently reviewing three core areas across the business
including; ways of working, continuous improvement with a focus on people
and systems and lastly, business plans. Each area has been assigned a
champion to drive it and our current champions are Steve Forrester (adi
Mechanical), Mike Slattery (adi Climate Systems), James Sopwith (adi
Projects) and, Ritchie Webb (adi Automotive Services).

accounting for everything in a consistent format, but also as a framework
within which adi TEGG Service’s engineers can comply with all the legal or
best practice testing regimes those assets require.

The system then logs and stores all test data in standard form format,
reports on defects and automatically prices up remedial work to present
back to the customer, or directly to adi TEGG Service, to be actioned. And,
with all data held in one digital space, they can be interrogated with ease.

For each asset and test programme, the asset list also acts as a scheduler,
allowing the customer to interrogate their factory area, site or whole estate,
ensuring not only are they compliant, but what the upcoming areas are for
testing.

With thousands of pieces of electrical, mechanical and environmental kit in
the typical factory, from boilers, motors, emergency lights, control panels
and distribution boards, along with all of the electrical system’s final circuits,
keeping tabs on compliance testing has often proven an administrative
nightmare for manufacturers.

In some cases, businesses have insufficient time and resources available
to keep track of all the necessary testing and the paper trails that inevitably
follow. This can lead to auditing difficulties and, in extreme cases,
unnecessary risk exposure, as potentially dangerous equipment goes
untested for a lack of awareness of test frequencies or of the vagaries of
different regimes.

adi Group Director, James Sopwith said, “We find some businesses
don’t have an accurate picture of their full asset inventory and, without
that knowledge, they struggle to ensure they’re in full compliance with all
regulations or industry best practices.

Championing The Next Generation
Through Our Apprentice Academy

adi Group, is championing future generations
by expanding its Apprentice Academy and
addressing the growing skills gap.

Having offered apprenticeships since the Group was founded in 1990,
we formalised our commitment to the cause with the launch of our
Apprenticeship Academy in October 2014. With 20 apprentices now
employed across the UK and Ireland, we’re proud to have already doubled
our numbers since 2016.

To help spread the message that apprenticeships offer a viable career path,
and therefore encourage more young people to enter the engineering sector,
the Group has begun hosting a series of ‘apprentice days’ through the year
which is set to continue throughout 2018.

These days involve a series of teambuilding activities and community
projects, wherein adi’s apprentices are encouraged to develop the attributes
and behaviours required within the workplace, such as creativity, innovation
and critical thinking.

Events to date have included an Academy Vision 2020 Team Building
workshop and during Tomorrow’s Engineers Week last November, the
apprentices interacted with visitors in a “Meet the Apprentice” event to
promote engineering as a career and Apprenticeships as a viable career
path, at the Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum.

Alan Lusty, CEO of adi Group, comments: “The vision of Tomorrow’s
Engineers Week is to create a national network of employers working locally
to reach young people with effective careers interventions from STEM
employers. That’s exactly what our Apprentice Academy aims to, and is
succeeding in, promoting.

“The job market for engineers has received a lot of attention lately, whether
it be the skills shortage or questions about the future of STEM professions,
but the truth is engineering continues to be a viable and in-demand line of
work. There is no short-term solution to the skills gap, but if we can educate
children and get them excited about a career in engineering, we will make
considerable progress in growing the workforce.”

Going Green: Apprentices Make A
Beeline For A Better Future

adi Group Apprentices recently supported the
Forest of Hearts charity to create a new woodland
area in Warwickshire.

Four apprentices visited Honeybee Wood in Stratford-upon-Avon to assist
other volunteers in planting 1,000 trees in just one day. They were in good
company as actor David Bradley, best known for his role as Argus Filch in
the Harry Potter film series, also showed up to lend a helping hand.

Honeybee Wood will become an area of natural beauty, home to 12
beehives with more than 400,000 bees. The aim is to create a haven for
wildlife and biodiversity which can be enjoyed by both locals and visitors
from across the UK.

The next stage of the project is to build two geodesic domes which will
function as outdoor classrooms where local community groups, charities,
schools and corporate groups can learn about the importance of bees to
pollination and the environment.

Carole Longden at Forest of Hearts said: “Thank you to all of our volunteers
and sponsors, including adi Group. Without your help, we wouldn’t have
been able to achieve the mammoth task of planting 1,000 trees in just one
day. Now we are one step closer to creating a beautiful woodland space for
bees and wildlife to thrive.”
