floor of a three
storeybuilding.Life
wasn’talwayseasy
butwehad aroof
above us and a
familywhichwasto-
getherthroughthickandthin.
BeinganelderdaughterIhadresponsibilityoftakingcareof
myyoungersisterandbrother.Pursuingmyeducationhad
becomeatoughreality.Mymotherwasmentallydisturbedand
finallyshediedleavingusalone.Ihadgreaterresponsibilityto
takecareofyoungeronesthen.Itwasaverydifficultandsad-
desttimeofmylife.
Myfatherstartedtodependonalcoholaftermother'sdeathfor-
gettinghisresponsibility.Mysisterwasaffectedthemostwho
neitherateproperlynortalkedmuch.Shejustkeptcrying.
Toaddtoourmiseryearthquakehitourhouseanditcollapsed
completelymakingushomeless.Welivedinatarpaulintentfor
manydays,nothavingsureofhavingamealandwewerenot
safeatall.Fightsoccurredduringthenight;fearcreptinour
mindsandspentmanysleeplessnights.Wedidn’tknowwhatto
dountilwemetSr.AshaCJwhointroducedustoFr.DilipSJ
whothenbroughtustoournewhomecalledArunaBhawan.
Nowwefeelsecureandhappybecausewehaveroofaboveus,
abletogotoschool,manyfriendsandourneedsaremet.My
fathertooismuchrelievedfromworryandtensionaboutus.
