In this time of thanksgiving, I know I don’t say “Thank You”

did not ever imagine you would have such a presence on
YouTube. Thank you also to Mark for all he does to love
and support you in your ministry.
Cecil – thank you for all you did to try to keep things organized and some of the business details off
of my desk as the Director of Operations. These days of Covid19 have brought many new wrinkles
and protocols to work through, and your assistance definitely made a difference. Though you are no
longer officially on staff, your willingness to help keep us going during this time of transition is truly
appreciated.
Briana – You are gifted and talented and have impacted the ministry of Savoy UMC. Your
creativity brought new life to the newsletter, your technology skills have moved us forward and
helped relieved a burden with Shelby. You seek to keep things organized and on time, but working
with me has brought new challenges to how that happens. Your willingness to help out temporarily
until we fill the new position is helping us to avoid major issues.
Dee (part time volunteer staffer) – Thank you for your generous offer to help in the office! You
were willing to learn new software, put together the newsletter (compile, organize and send it out),
answer phone and emails. Your efforts helped keep me from going completely crazy! I can’t thank
you enough for all you did!
Brian, Steve, Pat, Rose, Kay, Jana, Amy, Sybil, Mark, Tim, Mike, Jon, Kelli – Thank you for
all you do to make worship happen in the virtual world and in the real world before Covid19.
Worship would not be the same without all you do to bring music, vocals, Power, and capturing it
for
the world to see and hear.
Cindy, Jo Ann, Dee, Seraphin family, Charlie and Jan, Crystal, Dick – Thank you for all you do to
make sure we are sanitized and clean before and after in person worship on Sundays. You are
keeping us clean and prepare. Loving others requires sacrifice--Thanks for showing us Jesus.
Stewardship and Finance, Maintenance and Grounds, Trustees, Prayer Team, Memorial
Team, SPRC, Missions – Thank you for all you do to make sure - the money is tracked and
deposited, bills are paid, building is running smoothly and cared for, planning for the future and
organizing us for today, covering us in prayer and celebrating and remembering the saints who have
gone before us, for managing and working with the staff and keeping us connected, enabling us to
minister to those who need to see Jesus in a real way. Though I did not list each name individually,
know I see you and praise God for you and your impact on the ministry of Savoy UMC.
For those who step up for special projects – Covid Response Team, Habitat for Humanity and
Thanksgiving Baskets. Thanks for all of the time, energy, creativity and passions you have given to
impact us and those we will come in contact with now and in the days ahead.
Thank you!
We would not be where we are, if it were not for you. It takes a bunch of hard work to keep a
family together and moving in the right direction and your efforts enable this to happen for us. Are
there things we can do better, yes, and we are working on being better. I remind all of us “Journey
with Jesus to be like Jesus!” is our mission and we will only accomplish it if we do ittogether. Thanks
for the privilege to lead you on this journey!

SAVOY UMC
MISSIONS
Mission to the Philippines
On October 24, the Volunteers in Mission to the Philippines met at
Forrest Hill UMC in Peoria. We packed 10 boxes that will be sent
to our friends at the three churches we worked with in the
Philippines. The boxes were filled with fabric, sewing machines,
clothing, books, school supplies and household goods. Thank you
for your donations! Every item will be a blessing to the recipients.
Many, many face masks will be made with the elastic and fabric
that was sent. Hopefully we will be able to see our friends on the
other side of the globe again. God willing.
THANKSGIVING
BASKETS
This year the Thanksgiving Basket program has been primarily funded through the Pumpkin
Patch project, which was a tremendous success! Thanks to all who worked so hard to make that
happen, to all who participated, and to all who donated so kindly. We are very close to attaining
our goal of $7,650 and providing a Thanksgiving Basket to 170 families from our community. If
you have not designated a contribution to the Pumpkin Patch project yet, please take a
moment to do so soon.
This year we will distribute 140 baskets to families whose names are given to us through the
empty tomb program, and 30 additional baskets to those whose names are given to us through
the congregation of Savoy UMC. If you are aware of a need within our congregation, please
contact the church office so that arrangements are made for those individuals as well. There
are many of these 30 baskets still needing to be assigned to a family, so please forward those
names by November 15th if possible.
Plans to assemble Thanksgiving Baskets for recipients this year is similar to that of last year and
will of course include all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID19. The non-
perishable items will be assembled into 170 baskets on Friday, November 20th. Then on
Saturday, November 21st, the refirgerated items will be added to each basket which will then
be placed in the rear of the recipients vehicle or delievered to the front door of the recipient's
home. Volunteers will be needed on both days to erect cartons, place items into baskets,
convey baskets form station to station, place names on cartons, load baskets into vehicles,
deliver baskets to recipient's homes, contact recipients and perform other tasks as well. To
volunteer, please contact the church office to sign up to help with this.
Finally, thanks to everyone who is part of making Thanksgiving 2020 special to many families
who might overwise have much less.
Nov. 20th
&
21st!
THANK YOU!
Savoy United Methodist Church commits to feeding the hungry and demonstrating Christ’s love
through Thanksgiving baskets each year. This year we had a goal of 170 baskets and need
around $8,000.00 to create these baskets.
In years past, we have used Penny Wars and the successful Fall Bazaar to fund the ministry.
This year, because of COVID 19, we had a set of new challenges and needed to raise money in
a new way. We created a pumpkin patch fundraiser to do more than raise money. We really
wanted to also find a way to involve people that were unable to come to church and have an
event that would connect us to the community. We wanted to engage the church body and
show the community the joy and hope we have in Jesus and that we are still here serving.
Some people bought pumpkins, some people decorated them, some people moved them
around and yet others helped organize and advertise. Maybe you prayed, maybe you gave
sacrificially and donated directly to the Thanksgiving basket ministry. No matter your role,
thank you for supporting this fundraiser. It was about more than pumpkins. It was about joy,
hope, and feeding the hungry.
Our final numbers were 72 pumpkins decorated and $3,650.00 raised. We had many people
from the congregation come and drive through the wind-blown patch as well as many people
new to the church. We know God can use our efforts in ways we don’t even consider and our
prayer is that as we wrap up the pumpkin fundraiser many will be blessed through our service.
The pumpkins are now resting in the shed and awaiting “Pumpkin Olympics” with the youth.
CHRISTMAS
AT
CUNNINGHAM
Once again we have the
opportunity to show the Kids at
Cunningham how much we care.
For those who like to shop and
donate items from their
Christmas wish lists there will be
the usual paper ornaments on the
little tree or the alternative
would be to contact Ginger at
Cunningham for an “electronic
tag”. Gift cards are good choices,
too (Bath & Body Works, Dick’s,
Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Target
and Wal-Mart). Gift cards ship
free from Amazon.com and you
wouldn’t even have to pick up a
tag at church. If you mail your
gift card to Cunningham, indicate
it is for the Christmas wish list. If
you purchase an item return it to
the church unwrapped no later
than November 22nd. There will
be a special box for gift cards.
Look for the tree the week of
November 8. Thank you for
helping us love on the kids!

Charles Stanley tells of a time when he was struggling with a lot of opposition. In

Romans 12:6-8 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each
of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your
faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if
it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give
generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy,
do it cheerfully.
