Caterpillar has lost a shoe. 1
What will she do?
“May I borrow a shoe from you, Spider?” she asks.
2 But Spider’s shoe is too small.
Spider’s small shoes won’t work. 3
Caterpillar is sad without her shoe.
She goes to Green Frog. “May I borrow a
4 shoe from you, Green Frog?” she asks.
But Green Frog’s shoe is too big. 5
These big shoes won’t work.
She goes to Green Grasshopper. “May I borrow
6 a shoe from you, Green Grasshopper?”
But Green Grasshopper’s shoe is too scratchy. 7
These scratchy shoes won’t work.
She asks Crab.
8 “May I borrow a shoe from you, Crab?”
But Crab’s shoes are used for digging. 9
These sharp shoes won’t work.
The shoes have all been too small, too big,
too scratchy, or too sharp.
10 The caterpillar curls up on a leaf to rest.
Caterpillar thinks about what she can do. 11
She decides to make a cocoon to sleep in.
She sleeps and sleeps.
12 And when Caterpillar steps out of her cocoon…
She is a butterfly. 13
She doesn’t need shoes anymore.
She can fly!
