Assembly on Tolerance

‘‘Yet even differences prove helpful, where there are tolerance, charity and truth.’’
- Mahatma Gandhi

Grade 5 presented a theme based assembly on ‘Tolerance’. It began with the school prayer
followed by Arabic translation of the word, ‘Tolerance’. The focus of the assembly was 2019
being called as the Year of Tolerance as declared by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed. It will act
as a bridge of communication between people of different cultures in a respectful environ-
ment.
The students gave their views and shared their thoughts about tolerance and how they can sup-
port this drive of value-based dynamism.
Views on Tolerance by the students of Grade 5
“Recently UAE has announced 2019 as the year of Tolerance. Tolerance is being
calm, patient and caring towards each other. The Tolerance Bridge was inaugurated
at Dubai Water Canal marking the International Day for Tolerance. Let’s commit
to be tolerant throughout the year.”
Avika Gaur 5A

“Tolerance is a way to remember that we should be honest and kind hearted to
everyone. Tolerance is a special way to show that you are willing to help others.”
Aditi Vimal 5A

“Tolerance means the ability or willingness to tolerate the existence of opinions
or behavior that one dislikes or disagrees with. Being tolerant of each other and
caring for each other is what makes us human.”

Teacher of the month October 2018
Pushmeet Kohli

“The passion for teaching comes from the fact
that it gives me a chance to learn something new
every day from my students. The energy and
excitement that I witness in my students when I
teach using different activities, experiments and
strategies is what is rewarding for me every day.
It pushes me further to experiment on with new
ways. Being in this profession, I have the most
beautiful chance to carve our future through our
young minds, which inspires me to continue
trying out ways to keep up their spirits high.”

Teacher of the month November 2018
Fatima Mukadam

“I aspire to be the teacher who creates an environment to
be the school of choice for our parents, who wish to se-
cure the future of their children. Freedom of giving stu-
dents, ownership of their learning, which is imbibed in
the DNA of Heritage, helps us take risks along with our
learning experiences. With outstanding leadership, Her-
itage is my dream place to work and pursue my passion
for teaching.”

Teacher of the month December 2018
Sunil Fernandes

“What has encouraged me to develop as a
teacher is the fact that I can contribute to the
students’ process of learning. That is, when I do
my best in the classroom and always look for
new ways to improve my teaching practices,
I’m sure that students will benefit and learn in a
better way. It’s so rewarding to see students
improving their mathematical skills and the joy
they get from it That has led me to be constantly
on the lookout for my own professional devel-
opment so that my students keep learning and
enjoying their lessons.”

What Makes Me Happy?

Having worked at a dead end mundane content development jobs for the initial part of my career,
job satisfaction was a utopian concept for myself. With the same tasks day in and day out, and a life
so scheduled and routine oriented – monotony became a very familiar feeling. Needless to say – I
wasn’t happy!
But what does make someone happy? Is it wealth? Is it health? Is it progress? It is following your
passion? For some it’s all of that and for some it could be one or the other. For me, it became clear
to me that content development just didn’t fit the bill. But MUSIC – Ah yes: MUSIC that’s what
made me happy.
For the past 17 years I have been blessed with the gift of playing the guitar. It has always been what I
did best and that drove me to making the biggest decision of my life. Quitting my job from the big-
gest media house in India and moving across the sea to Dubai to teach music. Leaving my family
behind and following a dream seemed too “out there” a move but professionally it was one that was
necessary. I didn't set out to become a teacher, I just knew I wanted to play the guitar for a living.
Now having reached nearly 2 years in GEMS Heritage, I realize that music wasn’t and isn’t all that
makes me happy. But the fact that I now get to share what I know, teach what I’ve learnt and posi-
tively impact the lives of my students does exactly that.
Sure, every job has its challenges and teaching as a profession is no stranger to that. But I’ve come
to realize that it’s sharing and adding value to the lives of children that makes me happier. Not just
music in general. I find it safe to say that in these two years I have learned more than I have taught,
because teaching is a process of learning.
Though it may be my profession, teaching my students depends more on their needs and interests,
than a paycheck. It's a wonderful feeling to be involved in music teaching. I absolutely enjoy watch-
ing young musicians and singers develop. And I think every child should have the opportunity to
sing or learn an instrument. But what specifically about my career makes me happy?
The most important thing I find is – giving!
When you teach with the intention of giving rather than working, children become more receptive.
You become the kind of person they WANT to learn from. You become the kind of person they
look to for help, advice and nearly everything under the sun.
Today as I complete two years of teaching music – I am more certain that ever that playing the gui-
tar isn’t all that makes me happy. TEACHING CHILDREN MUSIC – that’s what makes me hap-
py.
We’ve just entered 2019, and it’s never too late to find out what makes you happy and go after it!
So I urge you to find your happiness just as I’ve found mine.

I want to make a Difference

I wanna make this world a better place. I may be just 11 years old, but I think I can do it.

My goal is to inspire everyone I meet to try and be a better person. I am not saying that being ‘good’ is a rare phe-
nomenon . But, isn’t there always a room for improvement in everyone?

Just think about it, small little things we do, can make a big difference. A simple smile, a compliment, a patient and
forgiving approach, not holding on to grudges, feeding the hungry, helping an animal in distress, all of them add up
to a beautiful world around us.

In the little that I have seen of this world, I have lived this fact that small gestures of concern and care, bring about a
world of happiness around us. Whenever I see my grandmother trying to carry something heavy upstairs, I run up to
her and carry it for her. She feels overwhelmed every time and hugs me with love. I have seen smiles of gratitude
whenever I helped a friend who was struggling with a concept taught in class.

What kind of person do you want to be? You can choose to be a good person or you can choose to be bad person.
It’s that simple. But believe in karma... what goes around, comes around. If you do a good deed, something good
will come to u and if you do a bad deed, be ready to face the ugly.

So, here it is in a nutshell. Everyday for the rest of your life you will be faced with decisions. There will be a little
devil on one shoulder, trying to make you do the wrong things and an angel on the other shoulder, trying to make
you do the right things. That’s your conscience. Always listen to the angel. Life is a journey. By listening to the angel,
you may not always be the FIRST to arrive, but you will certainly arrive at the RIGHT PLACE.

Technology

Technology has always changed us and our Mother Earth. Modern day revolution of technology started about
150 years back, with the invention of engines, electric generators, motors, telephone etc. Today technology has
reached another level and we have many more electronics such as mobile phones, tablets, internet
(communication), play stations, etc. In schools, technology is used for learning and programming.

There are many types of technology that we use. Few things like light bulbs, ACs, refrigerators, trains and cars are
used in our daily lives. Modern technology is practically used in everything, such as building construction, manu-
facturing industries, medical science and many more.

In today’s fast paced life, we as humans are largely dependent on technology. Imagine a world without cars, buses,
trains and airplanes. How would we commute or travel long distances? Technology has made our lives faster,
simpler and saved most of our time.

I love technology and I am sure I will also invent something for the betterment of mankind!

There’s Water All Around Me
There’s water all around me,
and darkness deep within.
I’m drowning slowly in the sea,
with the pressure of my sins.

There’s water all around me,
I don’t know where to go.
I’m trying to move around,
Soon I start to lose hope.

There’s water all around me,
as I hear small whispers.
It’s my friends and family,
telling me, I’m no quitter.

There’s water all around me,
I start listening to their words.
As I pull myself up,
I’ll eventually see the birds.

There’s water all around me,
I keep moving upwards.
Hoping to see the mountains and the trees,
I start moving sunwards.

There’s water all around me,
and I see the sky and sun.
I’m coming out of the deep blue sea,
I’ll finally be able to run.

There’s no water around me,
I am finally on shore.
With the support of my friends and family,
I know I’m worth more.

There’s no water around me,
and happiness deep within.
I’m running fast in the field,
with lovely white daffodils.

There’s no water all around me,
I know where I’ll go.
I freely move around,
Filled with joy and hope.

‘Family Values’ (Poem)

Every dusk I awake
around those I daily partake.
No matter on my ups and downs,
They are with me through the dawn.

Together we laugh or cry,
Regardless the climate’s slick or dry,
The numerous trips and journeys
are all my memories as earnings.

Parents look after children until they are able,
Vice versa happens when we are stable.
We learn to keep our values right,
To keep our future better and bright.

Family is what we call this privilege,
Carrying on to generations, our heritage.
As it is said “parents” are our visible God father,
A family that prays together, stays together.

Importance of Family

Our family is our biggest support system and the source of un-

together and teaches us about enjoying ourselves, having fun ,
keeping fit and healthy.
