THE ROLE OF TITHI

Keywords: Tithi

www.astrologicalmagazine.com December 2022 20 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE Introduction The word Panchanga (Panch = five, Anga = limbs) means five measurements of energy (light) based on the movement of two luminaries of Jyothisha in the sky, i.e., Sun (Surya) and Moon (Chandra). As the five energy measurements in Panchanga can reveal various influencing forces on a given day, Panchanga has been widely used for electional astrology. However, Personal Panchanga (PP) based on an individual’s natal chart remarkably contribute in understanding the functioning of that given individual in earthly plane as it is the ladder through which an astrologer can climb and assess “On a given day at a particular time, what kind of a bond is established between the planetary positions and five soli-lunar measurements to shape his/her life pattern?”. As Sun and Moon are the only luminaries in the planetary cabinet, the comparison of PP with natal chart indicates to what extent the light of life for an individual is obscured (Sutton, 2007). The five limbs of PP are as follows 1. Dina 2. Nakshatra 3. Tithi 4. Karana 5. Nithya Yoga A short description of each of these limbs is given below. Dina - Vedic week day. Unlike the consideration of a day in the modern times, that is, from midnight 12.00 AM to forthcoming midnight 12.00 AM, vedic weekday is calculated from Sunrise to Sunrise. For instance, imagine that a person was born on Friday at 3.00 AM and sunrise occurred at 5.45 AM, he is considered to be born on Friday as per modern convention but according PREDICTIVE ASTROLOGY PERSONAL PANCHANGA FOR SELF-TRANSFORMATION THE ROLE OF TITHI – PART 1 Dr. Rahul Raveendran Nair The author holds a PhD in Plant Biotechnology and currently works as a Research scientist in a Conservation laboratory (Aushmath Biosciences) located at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He has done a course on Jyothish from Bhagyalipi Jyotirvidya Gurukula Ashram, Odisha and was awarded the ‘Jyotisha Shree’ title in 2018. His research is broadly focussed on two aspects of nature, viz., tangible aspects and intangible aspects. vedic system, the vedic weekday of birth is Thursday (Sunrise to Sunrise). The component Dina in a PP is connected to the element ‘Agni’ (Sutton, 2007). The element Agni is connected to the physical expression of energy (Frawley, 1992). The Dina reveals how the incarnated Soul wants to pay off its Karmic debts by utilizing the physical energy in this material world. Nakshatra - In one day, the planet Moon travels an angular distance of approximately 13o 20’ against the backdrop of Stars in the sky. To cover a distance of 360o , Moon takes around 27 days (27 x 13o 20’ = 360o ) and hence, there are 27 Nakshatras. At the moment of a person’s birth, the Nakshatra under which the Moon is placed is called ‘Janma Nakshatra’. In a natal chart, nine planets can be seen positioned under various Nakshatras but the Moon Nakshatra has to be noted for Panchanga interpretations. In a PP, Nakshatra is connected to the mind of an Individual. The term ‘Nakshatra’ can be divided into ‘tra’ and ‘Naksha’ with the meanings ‘tra’ – a means and ‘Naksh’ – approach (Harness, 1999). Hence, Nakshatra reveals the approach that an individual should adopt to connect his/her mind to cosmic mind (Harness, 1999) to receive proper guidance to develop and process thought patterns. Nakshatra is connected to the element ‘Vayu’ (Sutton, 2007). The element ‘Vayu’ is connected with thoughts and communications (Frawley, 1992). Tithi - When the ecliptic longitudes of Sun and Moon are equal, New Moon (first lunar phase) occurs. From this point onwards, Tithi is the time taken by the Sun and Moon to increase the angular distance between them by 12o . This is called a lunar day or Tithi. There is a total of 30 Tithis to complete a cycle of 360o . Sun

www.astrologicalmagazine.com December 2022 21 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE is considered to be the Atma and Moon is reckoned as Jiva Atma (Sutton, 2007). Hence, each Tithi indicates a certain level of intercommunication between Atma and Jiva Atma. The 30 Tithis including Full Moon and New Moon are divided into two halves depending on the progressive changes of Sunlit portion of Moon, viz., waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) and waning phase (Krishna Paksha). Tithi is connected with the element ‘Apas’ (Water) (Sutton, 2007). The water element is linked with emotions and expression of emotions (Frawley, 1992). Hence, the Tithi in a PP tells us about emotional stability/expressional pattern of emotions/ nature of emotions of a particular individual. Karana - Half a Tithi is called Karana. From a New Moon perspective, it is the time taken for the Moon to travel an angular distance of 6o from the Sun. There are 11 Karanas out of which seven are movable and four are fixed in nature. The seven movable Karanas repeat themselves eight times (8 x 7 = 56) in a lunar month and form a total of 60 Karanas. The Karana limb of PP is associated with the Kriyamana Karma (Sutton, 2007), that is, the actions that we do in the present. It is worth noting that we are given a certain amount of ‘free will’ to make our own actions even though destiny has its own significance (Defouw and Svoboda, 1996) and hence, identifying Karana and its significance are crucial. The Karana in a PP is connected with Prithvi element (Sutton, 2007). The Prithvi element is connected with ‘actions/ activities’ on Earth (Frawley, 1992). Nithya Yoga - Unlike Nakshatras, Moon’s movement (13o 20’) relative to Sun is considered in Nithya Yoga (Soli-Lunar Yoga). Nithya Yogas are formed by daily association (daily angle) between Sun and Moon and Moon has to travel 13o 20’ from Sun to form each Yoga. There are 27 Nithya Yogas, formed by daily angle between Sun and Moon. The Nithya Yoga is associated with the extent of security, support, protection and blessings that an individual may experience in his/ her life on Earth. The Nitya Yoga of a PP is connected to ‘Aakash’ element (Sutton, 2007). The ‘Aakash’ Element is connected to the ‘feel of being protected and blessed’. Self-transformation The word self-transformation can be defined as the changes in the self that occur following (Carpenter et al., 1999) an event/ a sequence of events which can be physical or non-physical. In medicine, the process of self-transformation generally involves a process called ‘Biographical work’ (Corbin and Strauss, 1988) that indicates in general the understanding of various parameters influencing ‘self’ and integrating the meaning of such things into the ‘self’. This paper presents a ‘Biographical work’ in its widest meaning but in the area of astrology with special reference to PP to throw light onto the influence of it on the life of an individual and thereby helps to induce a positive selftransformation by proper comprehension. The author would like to call it a ‘Pentagonal Panchanga Model for Sustainable Self-Transformation’. A pentagram or pentagon represents ‘spirit and matter’ in manifested form on Earth (i.e., life) or the ‘microcosm’ (Blavatsky, 1899). During the process of birth, a soul receives a physical body (manifestation in the material realm) by the interaction of five great elements such as Prithvi, Apas, Agni, Vayu and Akasha. This is the rationale behind proposing this model. In this article, role in Tithi in developing constructive emotions is discussed. The significance of the ruler, impact of Dagdha rasis, differences in achieving emotional balance between Shukla and Krishna Tithis, and effective solutions to balance the effects of Tithis are mentioned. Pratipada Tithi Factor 1: Pratipada is ruled by Agni Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Libra and Capricorn Ruler significance: Agni is the element of transformation. Not only Agni helps to transform things from one state to another but it also helps to mediate the exchange of information from one level of existence to another. Back in ancient times, Sages were completely aware of these characteristics of Agni, and hence, knowledge of various forms (physical and non-physical) of Agni has been employed as an indispensable element in treatment procedures (Ayurveda Chikitsa) to balance the metabolic processes and in vedic rituals (Homa/ Yagna) to balance the exchange of information from

www.astrologicalmagazine.com December 2022 22 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE one plane to another. As Pratipada is ruled by Agni, it is obvious that the first Tithi is connected with transformation and exchange of information to establish a balance/equilibrium of the ‘thought universe’. The ‘thought universe’ represents the sample space from which all thoughts develop, disperse and diminish. It is common knowledge that Agni ‘consumes’ and then ‘transforms’. The nature and quality of Agni will be depending significantly on the nature and quality of substances/information that Agni receives for consumption. Being the ruler of Pratipada Tithi, Agni consumes all patterns of thoughts (dharmic/adharmic). In this process, Agni does two actions: It transforms the thoughts and it gets transformed, in congruence with what is fed. In a dharmic scenario, if your thoughts are pure, devotion-filled, Godly and righteous, Agni will exhibit the most rewarding and harmonious side of it, bringing calmness and relaxation to the mind. On the other side, in the adharmic scenario, if your thoughts are lustful, selfish, destructive, revengeful, anger-filled, and greedy, Agni will flare up and will tend to show up the most disharmonious side of it. So, a Pratipada person must be very careful about the nature and quality of the ‘thought universe’ that he/she owns. Dagdha Rasi: Libra and Capricorn are 7th and 10th houses of natural zodiac, representing relationships and actions in a public domain. The ‘burnt’ nature of these signs, indicates that Pratipada natives are prone to develop issues in these areas, if they are not so keen in maintaining the quality of his/her ‘thought universe’. In the numerical order, as seven comes first and then 10, there are high probabilities that a Pratipada person may first fall into a wrong association/company/group and then end up in doing bad karmas (actions). Shukla Pratipada: In a Shukla Pratipada native, the mind provides a wide enough space for the Agni and hence, he/she is more susceptible to the extreme effects in both ways (constructive and destructive) and there may be an inherent difficulty to manage effectively the thought processes, often resulting in emotional imbalances. Krishna Pratipada: In a Krishna Pratipada native, the mind does not have as wide a space as the mind of a Shukla Pratipada has for Agni’s play and hence, he/ she may feel a bit more relaxed and will tend to possess relatively a better control of emotions. Solution 1: It would be ideal, if one can chants ‘RAM’ continuously as chanting ‘RAM’ will help to balance Agni’s play in his/her mind. Solution 2: Check your needs & passions thoroughly and choose associations wisely. Dwitiya Tithi Factor 1: Dwitiya is ruled by Ashwini Kumar Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Sagittarius and Pisces Ruler significance: Ashwini Kumar represents the horse-headed twins, representing duality. For instance, Ashwini Kumar symbolizes duality connected with earth-heaven, daynight, birth-death etc. Handling duality is a relatively tough task in this material world. The stories of Ashwini Kumar (Vishnu Purana 2:3, RigVeda 16.115, 22.116, Devi Bhagavata 7, Mahabharata (Adi.3.34.-77)) (Vic Dicara, 2012) reveal that Ashwini Kumar prefers to play with the ‘dual nature of the mind’ to get their task accomplished as well as to offer boons to others for their righteousness. In this day and age, the mind’s fluctuations which arise out of emotions in Pratipada in determining the right actions/right decisions/right choices reflect the Dwitiya’s inherent difficulties in dealing with dualities. In other words, Dwitiya can see two possibilities in any situation and often tries to control the outcome of those possibilities through their actions by actually submitting themselves for two possibilities. This will cause them to be labelled as untruthful, impure and unaffectionate in public/ relationship domain. Dagdha Rasi: Sagittarius and Pisces are 9th and 12th houses of natural zodiac, representing Dharma and Moksha. As these Rasis are ‘burnt’, Dwitiya has innate issues in choosing a Dharmic action plan in their life which can lead them to move forward in the path of liberation. In all the stories mentioned above related to Ashwini Kumar, an element of ‘trickery’ is associated but the final outcome of the story is utmost Dharmic. This indicates that whether a Dwitiya native is capable of overcoming the ‘dual-trickery’ in which his/her mind gets often caught while choosing a life path (9th house) is the real question. As there are two outcomes in 12th house: 1) spiritual pleasure, 2) extreme worldly pleasure, in most cases, a Dwitiya would prefer to go in a path through which he/she can experience the worldly pleasures and as a result, the ‘dual’ nature of their mind gets aggravated. Shukla Dwitiya: A Shukla Dwitiya experiences the ‘dualtrickery’ the most and hence, he/she may try to master/ control their emotions initially but later gets almost conquered by them.

www.astrologicalmagazine.com December 2022 23 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE Krishna Dwitiya: A Krishna Dwitiya experiences relatively less ‘dual-trickery’ and is more capable of handling his/her desires rather than a Shukla Dwitiya. Solution 1: It would be ideal, if one can chant ‘HARE KRISHNA MAHA MANTRA’ continuously because although Krishna and Rama are different avatars, they are ONE. Chanting this MAHA MANTRA will pacify the fluctuations of a Dwitiya’s mind and help him/her to cautiously choose the right decision in any situation. Solution 2: Watch out for desires to form multiple relationships. Find out the duality within you to choose the constructive quality to become a better person. Tritiya Tithi Factor 1: Tritiya Tithi ruled by Gowry Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Leo and Capricorn Ruler significance: Gowry is the ruler and She is the partner of Lord Shiva. This reveals three aspects of Tritiya 1. It has a connection with the union of two opposites 2. It has a connection with love 3. It has a connection with devotion Goddess Gowry is synonym for a perfect life partner. Ancient texts reveal many occult secrets via the conversation between Shiva and Gowry. Gowry and Shiva are devoted to each other. In general, Tritiya yearns for love, relationships and commitments. There are different forms of Gowry and hence, depending upon what a relationship needs/demands, Tritiya has the ability to make adjustments/sacrifices for the love to last forever. As Gowry and Shiva are the most ideal divine couple, a Tritiya often tries to become too idealistic in choosing and maintaining his/her relationships and spends considerable energy in making adjustments/ sacrifices to maintain their love life. Dagdha Rasis: Leo and Capricorn are natural 5th and 10th houses, representing creative wisdom/ self-expression/intelligence and actions/public/ profession respectively. These Rasis are burnt and Tritiya possesses an innate tendency to be devoted, relationship-oriented and idealistic in actions. Tritiya’s innate tendencies may not get full support from his/her intelligence & creativity domain. This causes a Tritiya native to be lethargic, confused and sometimes restless (Defouw and Svoboda, 1996). Shukla Tritiya: A Shukla Tritiya finds it difficult to use his/her intelligence, discriminatory power and self-expression to achieve what he/she wishes in relationships, facing delay to settle down (Sutton, 2007). Krishna Tritiya: Although a Krishna Tritiya finds the same difficulties, Krishna Tritiya can identify his/her love relatively more easily to settle down (Sutton, 2007). Solution 1: To alleviate the issues in finding a good relationship to settle down, regular chanting of Devi Kavacham in Durga Saptasati will help. Solution 2: Establish a strong relationship. Stay motivated and avoid procrastination. Chaturthi Tithi Factor 1: Chaturthi Tithi is ruled by Lord Ganesh Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Taurus and Aquarius Ruler’s significance: Lord Ganesh is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Gowry. Lord Ganesh is also known as Lord Vighneswara, the One who can remove obstacles. When Lord Shiva cursed the glorious child who was born out of his laughter due to Gowry’s over-attachment, a number of replicates (ganas) of the child were generated out of his anger (Sutton, 2007). When these ganas became problematic for the smooth running of matters related to earth, as requested by Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva made Ganapati as the lord of these ganas (Sutton, 2007). From this story, it can be noticed that the ‘ganas’ symbolically represent ‘obstacles’ and hence, Ganapati is the lord of ‘obstacles’. This story tells us about the reason that we pray to Lord Ganesh: removing obstacles. A Chaturti native can help others to overcome their problems. If a Chaturthi prays to Lord Ganesh for removing the obstacles in his/her life, Lord Ganesh grants him/her the right intelligence/courage/ wisdom/knack to overcome them. Dagdha Rasis: Taurus and Aquarius are the 2nd and 11th houses of natural zodiac related to wealth/family/ speech and income/friends/gain respectively. These houses are burnt for a Chaturthi. This reveals the importance of giving extra-attention to these aspects in the life of a Chaturthi. Basically, the resources that a person needs to survive in terms of family and wealth are the areas to be focused by a Chaturthi. Shukla Chaturthi: A Shukla Chaturthi has an innate strength/wisdom to overcome obstacles. Krishna Chaturthi: A Krishna Chaturthi lacks the innate strength to overcome obstacles and hence, he/she

www.astrologicalmagazine.com December 2022 24 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE requires Lord Ganesh’ intervention to sail through life’s problems/hurdles. Solution 1: Chanting regularly “Om Gam Ganapataye Namah” will immensely help a Chaturthi to overcome issues in life. Solution 2: Believe firmly that you possess an inherent ability to remove obstacles in all walks of life and act accordingly Panchami Tithi Factor 1: Panchami Tithi is ruled by Naga Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Gemini and Virgo Ruler significance: Nagas rule Panchami. The serpents have a venomsac in their body and whenever they feel insecure/ attacked, they bite and release the venom. Hence, in this world, humans are scared of serpents and always try to stay away from them for safety reasons. The fear and insecurity that humans carry when they deal with serpents is connected with the “venom” that serpents possess. In human relationships of any domain, certain people would often get little love/affection from others and a lot of Panchami people fall into this band. A major reason behind this trend is that a Panchami can easily tune himself/herself to the negative aspects of his/her personality and cling onto it throughout the life, thinking that ‘this is my true nature’. A Panchami’s primary motivation must be to understand the positive qualities within and use them to acquire knowledge and wisdom to lead a meaningful and prosperous life. Dagdha Rasis: Gemini and Virgo are the 3rd and 6th houses of natural zodiac, representing analytical thinking / skill-set / communication / basic impulses and conflicts / confusions / hard-work / perseverance / diseases / enemies respectively. These houses are burnt for a Panchami native. This indicates the inherent difficulties that Panchami native possesses to overcome the negative feelings because 1. Perseverance and hard work (6th house) are essential to defeat one’s own negative thoughts and maintain a positive attitude 2. Effective analytical and logical thinking (3rd house) is required to separate good from bad in all aspects of life. Shukla Panchami: Although a Shukla Panchami native has the desire and aptitude for learning knowledge and wisdom, he/she may attract considerable negative thoughts that can distract the attention. Krishna Panchami: A Krishna Panchami is relatively more balanced in handling distraction due to negative thoughts and is more refined in the path of learning secret wisdom and occult knowledge. Solution 1: Chanting ‘Om Namo Bhagavathe Kama Rupine Maha Balaaya Naagaadhipathaye Namah’ will help to balance the negative energies within and identifying the constructive qualities to lead a happy and joyful life. Solution 2: Learn and impart wisdom to others through which you will learn about your role in this universe. Shashti Tithi Factor 1: Shashti Tithi is ruled by Kartikeya Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Aries and Leo Ruler significance: Lord Kartikeya rules Shashti Tithi. Kartikeya is the commander-in-chief of the army of gods. Ancient scriptures reveal that He was born to destroy demonic forces. The stories related to the race between Ganesh and Kartikeya about circling the whole world three times reveal the high amount of energy and willingness of Shashti natives to travel around globe. These stories also reveal another aspect of a Shashti native, that is, the foolhardy nature which is to say that a Shashti native may act based on impulses and may end up learning from his/her mistakes (Sutton, 2007). The commander-in-chief aspect of Shashti makes them bold and courageous and at times, due to this nature, others may find them oppressive and arrogant. Like a chief will always be in the limelight in any domain, a Shashti may always wish to be in the limelight forever and hence, a Shashti may often involve in blocking others to reach the limelight. Dagdha rasis: Aries and Leo are the 1st and 5th houses of natural zodiac, representing self/projection of self and intelligence/creativity/knowledge/learning respectively. As these houses are burnt, a Shashti should try to put maximum efforts to ‘learn knowledge, practice knowledge’ to develop creative wisdom and thereby achieving a respectable position in society. Otherwise, as Shashti is naturally inclined to be commanding and demanding, he/she would try to be domineering and oppressive to be in the center of attraction and it will definitely cause distress and disharmony in life. Shukla Shashti: A Shukla Shashti tends to exhibit high amount of fighting spirit and most often show reluctance to listen to the wise counsel of authorities and elders.

www.astrologicalmagazine.com December 2022 25 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE Krishna Shashti: Although Krishna Shashti also exhibits the fighting spirit, he/she is more balanced in his/her approach to responding to authorities and wise-advices. Solution 1: Chanting ‘Om Saravana Bhava’ will help to balance the counteracting egoistical forces. Solution 2: Surrendering your ego to God. Saptami Tithi Factor 1: Saptami Tithi is ruled by Sun Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Cancer and Sagittarius Ruler significance: Sun rules Saptami. As Sun is the universal soul and radiates the eternal knowledge, Sun has been worshipped by gods, sages, siddhas and humans. Sun has a unique glory in physical as well as in spiritual realms because in physical world, Sun provides light and heat for the sustenance of life and in spiritual world, Sun provides inner light and warmth to develop love towards the knowledge that can help a person to know the ‘true self’. The Sun’s ‘unique glory’ is roughly translated to ‘self-importance’ in a Saptami which is to say that a Saptami will want to be magnificent, glorious and illustrious (Defouw and Svoboda, 1996) but the efforts in this line will mostly inflate his/her ego at the end. The understanding that true glory comes via ‘imbibing true knowledge’ only can make a Saptami to become magnificent and glorious. But the overwhelming desires in this illusory world will not easily let a Saptami to reach the above understanding. Dagdha rasi: Cancer and Sagittarius are 4th and 9th houses in the natural zodiac, representing emotions/ mind and wisdom/purpose of life/dharma respectively. As these houses are burnt, a Saptami possesses inherent difficulties in tuning his/her mental realm to seek the right spiritual wisdom to allow the incessant flow of true knowledge to him/her. Shukla Saptami: A Shukla Saptami will have a strong urge to learn more about spirituality and philosophy. But there are high chances for him/her to swing between fulfillment and frustration. Krishna Saptami: A Krishna Saptami will also be interested to learn more about spirituality and philosophy but with a relatively more balanced approach. Solution 1: Chanting Adithya Hridayam on a regular basis will help a Saptami person to maintain a balance between the pursuit of material desires and the efforts to learn spiritual knowledge. Solution 2: Avoid overwhelming desires to project yourself too much in any situation Ashtami Tithi Factor 1: Ashtami Tithi is ruled by Matrikas (Divine mothers) Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Gemini and Virgo Ruler significance: Matrikas are the feminine aspects of Lord Vishnu (Vaishnavi), Lord Brahma (Brahmi), Lord Kartikeya (Kumari), Lord Indra (Mahendri), Lord Yama (Yami), Lord Varaha (Varahi), and Lord Maheshwar (Maheshwari). Ancient texts reveal that Matrikas were manifested in order to kill a demon, Andhaka. If a drop of blood from Andhaka falls on earth, another Andhaka would be born out of it, and hence usual/normal strategies were incapable of killing him. Finally, Goddesses did not allow the blood drops from Andhaka to fall on earth by drinking his blood. This caused Andhaka to lose all his blood and met his death. As blood of Andhaka is the symbolic representation of the sum total of all weaknesses that a human possesses, the seven forms of Goddesses represent the forces that a person can rely upon if he/she wants to get rid of such weaknesses. But it is not easy because in this material world, there would be a never-ending chain of the expressions of weaknesses one after the other akin to the origin of demon from each drop of blood. Properly understanding these ‘in-built’ weaknesses and developing the awareness that a person can overcome them by submitting oneself to the divine feminine are the important tasks to be accomplished by an Ashtami. Dagdha rasis: Gemini and Virgo are 3rd and 6th houses of natural zodiac representing logical/analytical mind and enemies/hurdles respectively. As these signs are burnt, an Ashtami will find it difficult to understand the weaknesses to develop strategies to overcome them. As 6th house is burnt, there are high chances that an Ashtami would feel that he/she has ‘no’ enemies within (i.e., no weaknesses). Shukla Ashtami: In the pursuit of defeating weaknesses, a Shukla Ashtami tends to be more focused. Krishna Ashtami: In the pursuit of defeating weaknesses, a Krishna Ashtami tends to face relatively higher obstacles. Solution 1: Chanting ‘Om Hreem Dum Durgayei Namah’ will help an Ashtami to overcome his/her weaknesses.

www.astrologicalmagazine.com December 2022 26 THE ASTROLOGICAL eMAGAZINE Solution 2: If you find that you have got an emotional issue, try to heal it at the earliest to avoid very possible intensification. Navami Tithi Factor 1: Navami Tithi is ruled by Ma Durga Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Leo and Scorpio Ruler significance: Devi Durga rules Navami. Ancient vedic texts reveal the battles that Durga fought with asuras to destroy them to grant the world peace and comfort. Specifically, Durga fought with an asura called Vratasura for 1000 years and killed him. In this material world, these battles symbolize our efforts and the asuras represent the inner negative emotions/thoughts. The holy text Durga Saptasati which contains 700 mantras details Devi’s battles with several asuras, killing them, and granting boons to Devas. This material world is just an illusion and Durga’s blessing is essential to remove the layer of illusion to burn our inner negative emotions/thoughts. Until Devi removes the layer of illusion, all of us will be completely immersed in the sea of illusion as clearly detailed in the first chapter of Durga Saptasati. The long battles of Devi against the asuras implies the fact that overcoming inner asuras is not easy. Dagdha rasis: Leo and Scorpio are 5th and 8th houses of natural zodiac representing discriminatory intelligence and hidden knowledge/hidden planes of existence. As these houses are burnt, a Navami may have inherent difficulties associated with removing inner negative emotions as a result, he/she often feels unsupported. Navami should work more on gaining eternal knowledge (5th house) to comprehend the existence other planes of existence (8th house) to get control over their inner demons. Shukla Navami: A Shukla Navami has the capacity to become spiritual to burn the inner demons. Krishna Navami: Although a Krishna Navami is capable of becoming spiritual to burn the inner asuras, they often feel unsupported and oppressed. Solution 1: Chanting daily Durga Saptasati is the ideal way for a Navami to completely remove inner demons. Solution 2: Develop faith in your abilities and seek spiritual progress Dashami Tithi Factor 1: Dasami Tithi is ruled by Drigs Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Leo and Scorpio Ruler significance: Drigs (10 virgins) rules Dashami. Brahma created Drigs for taking care of His creations. The husbands of Drigs protect the entire creation. In all aspects of the functioning of this universe, ‘creation and protection’ can be considered as two vital duties of godly beings and human beings for the existence. The essential qualities that creators and protectors possess are discipline and truthfulness. Drigs and their husbands are the synonyms for discipline and truthfulness. In this temporal world, a Dashami would always prefer to get engaged in protecting others in one way or the other. As a Dashami feels restless and confined when he/she does not get enough opportunities to help and protect others, he/she may overextend his/her protecting hands and may end up in stressful situations. Similar to Saptami, Dashami people want to be in the limelight and may use their protecting nature to catch the attention of others. If they do not take good care of this attitude, others may treat it as an act of exhibiting extreme self-importance. Dagdha rasis: Leo and Scorpio are 5th and 8th houses of natural zodiac representing discriminatory intelligence and sudden uncertainties respectively. As these signs are burnt, Dashami people natural face difficulties in finding the right ways to offer protection and to define proper extents to the protection offered by them. Besides, a Dashami exhibits low tolerance limit in facing sudden uncertainties. Shukla Dashami: A Shukla Dashami is capable of offering his/her helping hand to many people without losing his/her groundedness. Krishna Dashami: A Krishna Dashami feels anxious/ tensed if he/she does not find projects to extend his/ her protecting hands. Solution 1: Chanting Hanuman Chalisa will help a Dashami to strengthen the protecting hands and also to develop intuition to detect the right ones to offer protection. Solution 2: Get yourself engaged in protecting or preserving things ‘that belong to you and also you are empowered to do so’

Ekadashi Tithi Factor 1: Ekadashi Tithi is ruled by Lord Kubera Factor 2: Dagdha rasis are Libra and Capricorn Ruler significance: Lord Kubera rules Ekadashi and belongs to the family tree of Brahma. Kubera is the guardian of all wealth in this Universe. Lord Kubera’s association with vayu element and his duties such distribution and preservation of wealth clearly reveal that those who work for gaining money should also acquire expertise in preserving it as through preserving it, flow of wealth will increase. If our efforts are only focused on earning and not on preservation, there will be imbalances in the vayu element which can cause loss of focus and attention in wealth creation over time. Imbalances in vayu element can make Ekadashi people either too much focused in making money or too liberal in spending money. Besides, vayu imbalances can cause troubles in communication for an Ekadashi person. Hence, following a lifestyle which can balance vayu element is recommended for all Ekadashi people. Dagdha rasis: Libra and Capricorn are 7th and 10th houses in natural zodiac representing relationships/ business and actions in public domain/career. As these houses are burnt, Ekadashi often fails to develop balanced strategies to utilize their ability to make money through their actions in public domain, and as a result, either an overly addicted nature to money or a tendency to waste resources may often surface. Shukla Ekadashi: A Shukla Ekadashi can devise appropriate strategies for creation and preservation of wealth and will be good communicators. Krishna Ekadashi: Vayu imbalances will be relatively higher for a Krishna Ekadashi and hence, it will be a bit tough for a Krishna Ekadashi to develop wealth management plans. Solution 1: Daily chanting of “Om Shri Kuberaya Namah” will help.
