My School Canteen
It has been 4 years since I came to my current school. Everything is fine except the school canteen.
Though the canteen operator changed a few times, no improvement has been made. More students
are packing box meal to school, signifying something is wrong.
Basically, there is a limited choice of food for students to choose. Nasi lemak, fried mee and snacks
such as sandwiches, that’s all. We cannot eat the same stuff for years! We hope that they can prepare
more food from different cuisines such as Malay, Chinese and Indian food.
The canteen has no proper canteen sinks to wash our hands. Students’ crockery filled up the sink
shortly after the recess and the stench is unbearable. I suggest that more sinks can be constructed and
prepare more bins to place the crockery. Other areas of improvement for the canteen includes the
installation of more ceiling fans because it is rather hot after 10.30 am and the payment system. I
suggest that every student is to be given a scan card to pay for their food as canteen operators who
collect the money with their bare hands and take the food at the same time is unhygienic.
I seriously hope that the school authorities will place their priority right this time and improve the
canteen for the benefits not only for students but also to the whole school community.

Question 3
A local magazine has asked readers to write an article about their favourite things about the internet.
Write the article talking about the things you do with the Internet and recommend a website to other
readers.
Write your article.
The Revolution of Internet
The internet is an advancement of modern technology that has swept the world off its feet with its vast
usage. The Internet is defined as a global network of computers that provides information and
communication platforms. The internet has enabled the growth of society both positively and
negatively. It started as something that we could only access via computers, but nowadays, it is
everywhere!
One of salient features about the world wide web is that we can look up anything and get the solution
straight away. For example, imagine you are arguing with your friends about a particular solution.
Easy ! Go online and google it ! A lot of businesses are exploring online to stir the economy and it
really does !
However, the greatest feature about the internet is that we can learn various knowledge with just a
small amount of money and some are even free ! My favourite website is www.udemy.com, where
people can register to teach and learn about different things such as making apps, website design,
music, language and so on. I strongly recommend it to everyone !
In conclusion, the Internet has a plethora of advantages. We should make full use of it. Of course, there
are always two sides to every story. We have to use them in moderation.

Question 3
Are you a music fan ?
Write an article for our school magazine and tell us about :
The music you like and why
Where do you see live music with friends
Music industry in your country
Write your article.
My Music, My Life !
Since I was a child, I have listened to music almost every day of my life. Impressive ? I am a big music
fan and I would love to share my views with you.
I like pop music because it is catchy and upbeat. Particularly, my favourite kind of music is independent
music, known as indie. I love indie because it’s a mixture of rock and pop, so it has the energy of rock
but with more likeable melodies. Among the singers are Drake, Ed Sheeran and Nirvana.
Due to my love to music, I love going to live gigs with my friends ! In my town there are many places to
watch bands play, but the best one is the Polo Pub in the city centre. They always have cool local
singer-songwriters playing live at weekends.
As for the music in my country, some notable indie bands that I like are Bunkface, OAG and Estranged.
However, for Malay songs, I prefer ballads sang by our Divas such as Misha Omar and Shiela Majid.
All in all, I can be definite that music is my life. In fact, the only time I am not listening to music is when
I am at school. What about you? Do you love music as much as me ?

Revolutionary Invention
With the launch of our new Proton X50, I start to understand the importance of cars and it is
irreplaceable. Cars have been invented to improve the quality of our lives, give comfort and
guarantees safety on the road.
Not only do we use vehicles to do shopping but we also use them as the way of travelling. Getting to
work by using public transport is very troublesome and dependent on traffic. Among the advantages
of having a car is spending less money on buses and greater safety compared to riding motorcycles.
My life has changed since I collected my driving license. I have become more independent. I can drive
to visit my beloved uncle, go shopping and no longer have to queue at the bus station to go to school.
I am definitely sure that it will come very handy when I start to work.
However, there is also another side to a coin. Cars bring pollution, increase noise and number of
accidents on the roads. Hence, I only drive when necessary. For those who are irresponsible, especially
those who like to speed and drunk drivers, harsh punishment should be imposed to avoid any
unforeseen circumstances. Honestly, I think a car is a good invention but we need to think before using
it. Don’t you think so ?

Tell us a rural local town that you have visited in Malaysia which you reminisce.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mukah, Sarawak
When my parents suggested East Malaysia as our holiday plan, I was having second thought on
visiting Mukah, a town located in the central region of Sarawak, with a 200-kilometre coastline facing
the South China Sea. Fortunately, I did not turn down the suggestion. It was enriching and the wealth
of culture shocked me totally. It is well connected with other cities such as Kuching, Sibu and Miri via
flight, making our trip from Kuching a decent one indeed.
From the plane, I could see the Telian River and houses connected with plank walkways. A Mukah
resident on the flight told me that sago logs are towed along the waterways to factories downstream.
Here, sago pearls is considered as a staple food for the Melanaus. Once landed, we had our late
breakfast at a famous “kopi tiam” with coffee, noodle, half boiled eggs and toast. Over there, I had a
taste on “Umai”, made from raw fish in lime juice and spiced with shallots and chilli. One word,
“delicious !”
We put up two nights at Kingwood Hotel, a comfy hotel with great amenities. My mother insisted to
visit the Rajang Songket Weaving Centre, one of the most well-known woven textile collection in
Sarawak. A local introduces us to the Belawai Festival with a 10km stretch of pristine white sand beach.
We caught two birds with one stone when we visited the festival with 200 stalls selling local food and
crafts, with powerboat racing and fishing competition help throughout the 10-day event. The
atmosphere was in high spirits.
My two-day visit to Mukah, which I reminisce, seemed not enough for my whole family. We took a lot
of photographs and the memories will not be easily effaced.

Question 3
Is Robot Useful In Our Homes?
Write an article for our school magazine and tell us about :
The benefit of having a robot in our homes
What are the possible problems faced ?
Write your article.
Robots In Our Homes
Not many people enjoy doing household chores, so imagine a future in which we don’t have to do
house chores anymore because we have intelligent robots. Obviously this would impact our lives
enormously.
Not only would we have more time if we didn’t have housework to do, but there would be far fewer
arguments about whose turn it is to do the washing up! Also, parents wouldn’t nag their children
about helping around the house any more, which would be fantastic. Lastly, if these helpful robots
were intelligent, they might replace household pets. I could even imagine seeing some reality TV
programmes starring household robots!
I don’t think that having robot house-keepers would be without problems, though. For a start, it would
be really expensive to own one of these robots and to get them serviced and repaired. What’s more, if
they became too intelligent then we would lose our privacy at home and we might even need robot
counsellors and prisons!
All in all, I’m sure that having robots in our homes would change our lives dramatically. Who knows,
maybe one day we will also have robot personal trainers, actors and teachers!

A Town That I Really Like
Have you ever been to the Penang, an island located North-West Malaysia ? I spent a fortnight there
last holidays in a small town called “Balik Pulau”. In my opinion, you couldn’t choose a better place to
spend time.
Balik Pulau is only a couple of kilometers away from Georgetown, where you can find lots of fantastic
beaches too. The surrounding countryside is very beautiful and there are some paddy field areas
nearby, which is ideal for walking and other outdoor activities. My family and I went cycling around the
area and the little owl house in the middle of the vast field really surprised me !
The little town itself is very pretty and serene with narrow winding roads and lots of interesting old
buildings. There are a plenty of locations where you can try their local food such as Laksa, “Roti Canai
Sarang Burung” and “Rojak”. Besides, there is a farmers’ market every weekend where you can buy
fresh local meat and vegetables.
Finally, the pace of life is slower than in the city. People are friendly and they aren’t always in a hurry.
They have more time to stop and pass the time of every day.
So, whatever you’re looking for a small town - attractive old buildings, great food, lovely places to
explore and first-rate leisure facilities - Balik Pulau has them all.

My Grandfather
If you bumped into my granddad, you probably wouldn’t imagine him as a particularly funny person.
He has a great sense of humour and is the funniest person I know. I grew up with him and I love my
grandfather dearly. He is my hero in many ways.
He is always telling jokes. He knows loads of good ones, goodness knows how he manages to
remember them all! He also loves telling us stories from his younger days which always have an
amusing ending. For example, he said he once fell asleep on a bus journey. When he woke up, it was
dark and the bus was back at the bus station. The driver had disappeared and the doors were locked.
He had to spend the whole night on the bus!
He also loves playing practical jokes on people, but the jokes are always harmless. He once bought
fake spiders from a joke shop and hung them from the light in the dining room. You should have seen
my mum’s face when she spotted them!
So, as you can see, there’s never a dull moment when my granddad’s around. He’s like a big kid, and
that’s what makes him such a good companion.

My Perfect Holiday Destination
My perfect holiday destination is the Pulau Langkawi in Kedah. With its sunshine, clear blue water and
the warm welcome you receive, this island is hard to beat as a holiday destination.
The island has something for everyone and is the perfect choice for people who love water sports,
such as water-skiing, snorkeling and windsurfing. For those who prefer a more relaxing holiday, there
are beautiful secluded beaches, facing the calm sea and also an impressive selection of restaurants,
where the local seafood is highly recommended.
Another attraction on the island is the Marine Park, where you can see exotic fishes and sea creatures.
You also have the chance to see rare birds. It is worth travelling around the island to see beautiful
scenery and although some of the beaches are difficult to reach, they are well worth the effort. Getting
around the island is not difficult, as car and moped hire can be easily arranged.
To sum up, Langkawi is a beautiful island with lots to offer. It is indeed a perfect holiday location not
only for me, but for every vacationers.

A Person You Admire : Teacher Leong
Mr. Leong has left an indelible impression in my mind. He taught me when I was in Form 4. He had just
graduated from University of Malaya with a degree in Education.
On our first day of school, we were all in awe when he came into the class. His glasses made him look
stern but when he started talking, all of us could not stop giggling. He had a screechy voice that was so
high pitched, it sounded like fingernails running across the whiteboard.
His lessons were always very interesting. The majority of the lesson was spent enacting a part of the
stories that we were reading. Seeing the stories come to life made learning English very appealing to
us. Many of us emerged from our shells and became lively and animated during his lessons. He likes to
ask questions and no matter what our answers were, he never scoffed at us. He never belittled us and
will always encourage us to provide our ideas in any discussion. He would go the extra mile to stay
back and teach us English.
Beginning of this year, he left the school to further his studies. His determination and grit made him
our idol. He has etched a mark in our life with his beautiful crafts.

The Most Fascinating Destination : A Conservation Area
The most fascinating destination I have been to is a natural reserve located at Maliau Basin
Conservation Area in Sabah. Once I stepped into the lush greenery reserve, I felt as though I was
transported to a heaven. A narrow path was laid ahead of me with overgrown leafy trees. Sunlight was
partially blocked so there were shadows everywhere, keeping the place cool.
There was a strong smell of fresh wood and scent of freshly cut grass as I inhaled a deep breath. It was
certainly refreshing. There was such an abundance of fragrant smells of flowers and trees. I stopped in
the middle of the reserve to observe the nature. The feeling was so soothing and I was extremely
amazed by the beauty. There was a quite a diverse species of trees. Most of the trees were so tall that I
could hardly see the top.
Halfway through my trek, I was surprised to see a small group of people standing at an edge of a small
clearing. They were on their binoculars and I followed suit. There was a yellow-crested brown-billed
bird perching on one of the branches. It made a series of long piercing screeches, which were
mesmerising.
The excitement still fills the space in my mind. I left the reserve after exploring for more than 6 hours.
The pure satisfaction is incomparable. Looking at those pictures I took set my eagerness of wanting
more. I will visit the top 5 nature reserve in Malaysia before furthering my studies in my university.

My best friend’s name is Nur Syifa Binti Yaacob. I find her a good confidante and we have known each

She is my companion for a wealth of reasons. For one thing, we share similar interests and hobbies.
Both of us are mobile games buffs. We like to play games together online. We are also both good in

Complimenting each other is our key to good friendship.
Best friend confide in each other. We share our secrets, fears and ambitions. We discuss our problems
and sometimes, people think that we are like twins. We seem to know each other very well and share
the same love towards rabbits. We rear rabbits in our compound and both of us wish to be a zoologist
or veterinarian in the future.
We don’t care about skin colour, race or religion. She is a Malay and I am an Indian. We just care about
each other as people. Whenever we quarrel over some trivial issues, we treat them as passing

The Festival Of Light
When I went to Thailand, everyone enjoyed Loi Krathong, the most beautiful celebration of the year. It
takes place during the full moon at the end of October over three days. The evening of the celebration
is one of the most picturesque festival in Thailand.
During the event, small boats are decorated with candles, leaves and flowers in amazing designs.
Children even take part in Krathong contests in schools. They float them on the water to let go of bad
feelings and bad luck and to welcome in happiness and good luck.
On that day year, I went down to the river with my family to release our Krathong. It’s so much fun as
everyone was in high spirits. We lighted the incense and candles in our boat and everyone silently
made a wish. Then, we pushed our colourful boats on the river. While enjoying some snacks, we
watched over the river on the glittering lights from the boat far away. Then, there were some
amazing fireworks too.
As the last fireworks light up the sky, I felt sad that the celebration was over for another year. No words
can describe my feelings then. You should visit Thailand someday during Loi Krathong!

schools have banned them, which I totally agree with.
In the first place, health experts agree that eating junk food at school can negatively affect students’
concentration. Food such as chocolate may provide a sudden burst of initial energy, but soon
afterwards energy levels drop and student’s performance is affected.
Secondly, these kinds of foods are generally not very nutritious. Crisps and chocolate that are often
available in vending machines are full of fat and sugar. By eating too much of these foods, students
could become obese and have other serious health problems later in life.
Some say, however, that it would be better to teach students about healthy eating rather than taking
away their right to choose what they eat. While I agree that banning junk food is only part of the
solution, some children would still eat too many of these foods if they had the chance.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that allowing junk food in schools could lead to poor eating habits at a
young age. Is it not just common sense to ban them ?

Mobile Menaces
Mobile phones have started to take over our lives. It seems that we cannot do anything without them.
However, they can be very annoying and distracting as well. My personal experience was in a
restaurant, when my next table guest played Youtube video noisily without concerning other people’s
privacy Therefore, I think mobile phones should be banned in public places.
Firstly, mobiles phones stop us from communicating with people normally. People now prefer to send
text messages and tweets rather than having face-to-face conversations. Consequently, we are losing
our ability to socialise with people. Secondly, mobile phones can be annoying and noisy. People who
use mobile phones often talk very loudly on their phones and use their phones to play music. This can
ruin public places, like parks and playgrounds, where people may just want to enjoy the peaceful
surroundings.
However, mobile phones can be a good source of entertainment. People can play the latest games and
share their experiences with their friends. This helps them build stronger friendships and encourages
them to meet people. However, this can just as easily be done at home, not in public.
In conclusion, mobile phones should be banned from public places because they stop us
communicating normally and enjoying the world around us.

Iron Man 3
I am not a great fan of action films so I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Iron Man 3. However, I was
pleasantly surprised by this action-packed follow-up to the first two Iron Man films. It is a
fictional superhero movie which I was lured to watch it since it hit the box office of close to
USD 590 million.
The plot isn’t particularly sophisticated. It revolves around an attempt by the shadowy villain
Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) to launch terror attacks on the United States, and Iron Man’s (Robert
Downey Junior) superhuman efforts to foil his plans.
The acting is first-rate, as you would expect from starts like Downey Jr, Kingsley and Gwyneth
Paltrow, and they are well supported by the rest of the cast. The script is witty and clever, with
lots of snappy dialogue and many amusing moments. Visually the film is superb, with
spectacular special effects that are a hallmark of the Iron Man movies.
Overall, Iron Man 3 is highly entertaining. It isn’t a deep or complex film, but as a two -hour
action movie, I can’t fault it. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to almost anybody.

Holiday Campsite At Canopy Villa
Ever since I was a kid, I have been really keen on nature and camping. Every December
holidays, my parents would pack our tents and drive us to a different campsite across the
country. Last year, we had our very special moments at Canopy Villa, Pahang. It is situated at
Kampung Janda Balik, 28750 Bentong.
Canopy Villa is a camping facility that has opened only a few years ago and it is located quite
close to the town. Despite being so close, when you are there, you feel completely isolated
from the outside world. This is because it is almost surrounded by a beautiful forest which
blocks the noise from the town.
The facilities at the campsite are simply amazing. There is definitely something for everyone. If
you like playing soccer, there’s a football pitch for you. If you prefer swimming, you can try
their swimming pools. If you just want to have a break and relax, simply chill out in one of the
spacious relaxing areas they have, overseeing the nature.
If you are into camping and want to have an inexpensive holiday in Malaysia, I suggest you
this mesmerising campsite. You really do not want to miss out our Malaysia’s beautiful nature.

The Phantom Of The Opera
I recently read the Phantom of the Opera, a novel written in 1910 by Gaston Leroux. It has
been adapted a number of times for the cinema and also into an immensely successful
musical.
It is set in Paris and is a story about the phantom “Erik”. He portrays a menacing figure who
lives hidden away in the basement of the opera house. He is in love with Christine, an opera
singer, but she does not like him. She loves a young aristocrat called Raoul. As you would
expect in a “gothic” novel, the plot is very intricate with lots of twists and turns, which keep the
reader turning the pages.
My main criticism of the book is the characterization. The characters are unmemorable and
rather two-dimensional. It is often difficult to understand what motivates them. For example,
when Christine chooses to have a conversation with Raoul on the roof of the opera house.
To sum up, I enjoyed this “gothic” horror story despite my reservations about the
characterization. However, I would only recommend it to people who really enjoy horror or
ghost stories. Personally, I like this novel very much has it contains a lot of values inside.

Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato
A pop star who I really admire is none other than Demi Lovato, an American actress and singer
from New Mexico, USA. She is not only famous for her music but also for her roles in TV
programmes such as Prison Break and the X-factor.
First of all, I admire Demi Lovato for her talent and hard work. Demi is intelligent, funny, kind
and wise. She truly cares about her fans. I love her upbeat music and dancing and also the fact
that she puts so much energy into her performance.
Another reason that I really admire Demi Lovato is for her bravery in admitting to some
personal problems. She had an eating disorder and a mental illness, for example, and was
bullied. By speaking out about these problems, she has inspired young people wth similar
problems to get help. She has also supported and raised money for various charities and
become a spokesperson for programmes such as an anti-bullying campaign.
All in all, she is a great role model who inspires young people to be passionate about what
they do and use their talents to help others.

Worst Programme Ever on Axtro
In my opinion, the programme “Real World” is the worst on Axtro at the moment and I simply
cannot comprehend why anybody would want to watch it. In the programme, a group of
young people who have never met each other before are sent to live in a large house in the
middle of the countryside. The programme shows you how they get on with each other.
The main problem with this programme is that all the individuals in it are awful and terrible.
Clearly, they are all desperate to be famous by appearing on TV but they are not interesting
people at all. They talk about themselves all the time but they have very annoying
personalities and their opinions are dumb and foolish.
In addition, they are entirely selfish and they seem to think that people watching them will
find them fascinating. In fact, I am sure everyone at home is thinking how terrible they are,
even though they are acting. Basically, this is how annoying a reality show is !
Another thing that makes the programme so annoying is that people are constantly arguing
with each other. This just makes me want to tell them to shut up! Besides, next month, the
programme will be rescreened, quote unquote!

California Cafe
Being a huge fan of traditional American fast food and restaurant styles, it’s no wonder that
my favourite restaurant in Malaysia is California Cafe. This restaurant is rather special and it is
one of its largest chain outlet and has a superior touch to it.
Located smack in the middle of the city, this fast food chain serves a wide variety of
mouth-watering, American dishes at a reasonable price. These range from typical nachos or
French fries to more elaborate meals like homemade steak. If you are hungry, it’s the place to
fill your stomach as their servings are absolutely generous and sumptuous.
Another plus point is the ambience. This place is equipped with magnificent decor. If you are a
film buff, you will quickly fall in love with this place since all the walls are covered with famous
movie posters. It has a spacious hall, super friendly waitresses and an outdoor terrace which is
absolutely fantastic!
The only negative thing is that right beside of this restaurant, is a gym. It makes me feel guilty
for eating so much! Nevertheless, California Cafe offers delicious meals in a unbeatable
atmosphere, so you should give it a try. I promise you won’t regret it ! Besides, you won’t burn
a hole in your pocket, that’s for sure.

Layer Cake
Did you know that Daniel Craig was already famous before playing James Bond ? In fact, my
favourite Damiel Craig movie is called “Layer Cake”, which he did a long time before
becoming the most famous spy in the world.
Set in central London, this movie illustrates the story of a drug dealer, which is played by Craig.
He tries to give up his drug empire. However, not everything goes as planned and he gets into
some serious trouble with some of his business partners.
The main characters are wonderfully played by the actors, who give an exceptional
performance. However, some of the secondary roles seem to be a let down, as they are a little
dull, two-dimensional and insignificant. As for the storyline, it’s a indeed a real nail-biter. You
never know what is going to happen with the main characters. To save the best for last, in fact,
you will never be able to guess the ending.
If you are a fan of action movies, I completely recommend that you watch this film. I am sure
you will have a great time and it will be an unforgettable movie even though this film was
made in 2014.

MUNAFIK
A film which I would like to review is a local horror flick “Munafik”. “Munafik” means hypocrite
in English, which means a person who pretends to have certain belief but they actually not.
There is a sequel to the first movie but I like the first more.
“Munafik” revolves around Adam, the main actor, who is a Muslim medical practitioner. He is
agonising over the death of his wife in a car accident. Because of that, he stops helping people
who are in need of his special skill. He feels that he is incompetent in his job because he could
not protect his own wife. However, a damsel, Maria, has made Adam having no choice but to
help again. Little does he know that Maria is related to his wife’s death.
The most horrifying part is when Adam digs her wife’s body from the grave home to prove to
his son that his mother is actually dead. Next, there is a major twist at the end of the movie.
He discovers that his son is actually dead too in the accident from the beginning. However, he
could only claim the body from the accident site in the end. It is heartbreaking and I saw many
cinema-goers were in tears. The son that he has been talking to is actually spirit or apparition.
The movie hit box-office earnings close to RM10.0 million in 2016 and it is a movie that
everyone should not miss, if you are a fan of horror movie. I watch it twice and it is very scary
and hair-raising. Make sure you watch with someone if you decide to watch it in the near
future !

GRANDFATHER’S LODGE REVIEW
It was a month ago but I feel as if it was yesterday. I just reminisce the hotel called
“Grandfather’s Lodge”. It is a little rural hotel in Balik Pulau, Penang. Though the name is a
lodge, I would say it is a full fledged hotel.
Out of our busy schedule after the examination, my parents decided to spend some quality
time together, so we pick a place where we could rewind ourselves. It turned out to be a
surprise to us after stepping in. They have all activities such as biking, trekking and turtle
watching !
In that regard, our choice was the best ! The hotel is a peaceful and calm place especially at
night. The rooms are spick and span. The mattresses are very comfortable, causing us to fall
into deep slumber within minutes. On the next morning, we were woke up by the sound of
chirping birds and smell of freshly baked cake by the owner.
The owner, Puan Safiah, is very friendly and could crack jokes with us. She lives in the hotel
with her family, so, if we needed anything, they were always ready to help us. One morning,
Puan Safiah taught me to cook her “special baked cake” together ! It was such a wonderful
experience ! Hence, if you want to rewind and at the same time, surrounded by nature, I would
recommend this place to you.

Maze Runner Trilogy
One of my favourite trilogy is Maze Runner series. It comprises of Maze Runner (2014), Maze
Runner : The Scorch Trials (2015) and Maze Runner : The Death Cure (2018). It is a science
fiction and mystery film. My favourite actors are Dylan O’Brien, who plays Thomas, the main
actor and Ki Hong Lee, who plays Minho, the Keeper of the Runners.
The first Maze Runner in 2014 kept me longing for more. The film features Thomas, who
wakes up trapped in a maze in a group of other boys, who has no memory of the past. This
first edition has lots of suspense and thriller when they plan to escape the maze with creatures
and traps. With only fragments of an organization known as WCKD (World Catastrophe
Killzone Department), the Gladers find ways to uncover the purpose.
The second Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials was on cinema in 2015. Their journey takes them
to the Scorch, a landscape filled with obstacles, they manage to uncover the plans of WCKD.
When I watched the Maze Runner, The Death Cure after 4 years in 2018, I was filled with
disappointment. This final trilogy was not up to my expectations and was a let down
compared to the first two. The Death Cure, which is the finale of the saga, narrates Thomas
leading his group of friends on a mission to break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-
controlled labyrinth. In my opinion, the finale’s plot is quite expected and the mission looks
pretty easy, especially breaking into the city. Thomas, as expected, has the impotent blood
which can cure the world and I actually expected more for the ending.
I like the first two films more than the finale as the first two keeps me hoping for more but
the finale is a little disappointing. Though I like the overall trilogy, it should have a twist at the
end of the movie.

Tickling My Taste Buds At Casablanca
There’s no shortage of new restaurants in the city centre. Last night I had the pleasure of
dining on a Moroccan cuisine at Casablanca.
From the moment you walk through the door you feel like you’ve been transported to
Morocco. The interior designer did an excellent job soaking the walls in deep reds and blues.
The aroma coming from the kitchen makes the mouth watery as soon as you enter with its mix
of saffron, ginger and cinnamon.
The meal began with a traditional salad of tomatoes and a selection of fresh peppers.
Moroccan cuisine is known for its spices and the main dish of lamb with dried plums did not
disappoint. The seasoning kept my mouth both delighted and at the same time looking for a
glass of water. The wonderful dessert menu was filled with sweet pastries with almonds and
honey. However, the portion sizes of the first two dishes kept me from being able to sample
them.
As for the staff, they could not be more polite or friendly. I will definitely be returning on a
regular basis and I suggest anyone who likes a little spice in their meals to do the same.

The Thieves Of Ostia
“The Thieves Of Ostia” by Caroline Lawrence is the first in a series of books entitled “The
Roman Mysteries”. The author writes colourfully and vividly about Ancient Rome as if it were
the present day. I read the book last year and it kept me wanting for more. I think it is an
absolute must for the school library.
The book is set in the Roman port of Ostia nearly two thousand years (2 millenium) ago. It tells
the story of Flavia and her three friends, and their attempt to discover who has been killing the
dogs of Ostia and why. They ask Libertus, Flavia’s father’s patron, if he saw any unusual. He
told them he had but when they found out that he lied, they become suspicious. It is full of
mystery and suspense as the plot has many twists and turns, which make you want to keep
reading.
The book is aimed at ten to twelve year-old native English speakers but It is very popular
among older children too. What’s more, it gives a fascinating insight into life in Roman times,
so readers learn about history as well as improving their language skills.
By buying this series of books, the library would be doing a lot to encourage students to read
more in English.

A Super Site ! Channel One News
One of my favourite websites aimed at teenagers is Channel One News. It’s an extremely
informative site that not only helps teens to keep up-to-date with what’s going on in the
world, but offers a whole lot more as well.
The site has a daily news programme, homework help, quizzes and contests. Moreover, it
helps to provide resources such as career advice to those leaving schools too. There are also
articles on topics such as history, geography, health and money. I can get lost in these for
hours as they are so fascinating and easy to read. The animations, graphics and pictures are
vibrant and lively.
Overall, it is easy to find what you’re looking for on the site. I particularly like the section with
music videos. For each artist, there is an article and some songs to listen to. You can even
upload a news story of your own, which is my favourite feature of all.
All in all, I am very impressed with this site and I think it would appeal to all teens who are
interested in the world around them. I would highly recommend other young people to take a
look.

Hills View Shopping Centre
Hills View shopping centre opened on the outskirts of my town about a year ago. It’s a huge
shopping centre with hundreds of shops and facilities.
This shopping centre has the largest range of shops that I’ve ever seen in one place. There is a
fantastic range of fashion shops appealing especially to teens, plus department stores and
other chain stores. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the produce is high. There are
also regular sales that are advertised on the radio.
Moreover, there are many other amenities here as you can imagine for such a large shopping
centre. There is a food court on the third floor with an impressive variety of booths and
restaurants serving not only fast food but healthier options, too. There is also a stage area
where concerts and other entertainment for young people are held at weekends. In addition,
there are plans to open a multiplex cinema and an aquarium in the basement next year.
All in all, shoppers have everything they need for a great day of shopping and entertainment
at Hills View Shopping Centre and I would definitely recommend it to teens at my age.

Shock Point
I love reading books that I can’t put down. One of that which I read recently is a fantastic
psychological thriller. It’s called “Shock Pint” and it’s by my favourite author, April Henry.
The book is about a teenage girl called Cassie Streng who is sent to a boot camp after she
discovers that her step-father, psychiatrist, has been giving a dangerous new drug to his
teen patient. The camp is actually more like a prison and Cassie can’t escape. Fortunately, she
soon has a new friend, and they soon came up with a clever plan.
The plot is very exciting and fast -paced. There’s lots of suspense, which is why I just couldn’t
put this book down. I lived and breathed the characters, who were very well developed. You
can really understand Cassie’ despair, but also her determination to escape and stop her evil
step-father. The only thing I didn’t like was the ending which I found too predictable.
All in all, “Shock Point” is a excellent book that I would recommend to any teenager who
enjoys gripping thrillers. I will definitely read it again.

Report
How Should I Attempt This Task ?
Purpose of a report
Reports are usually written to analyse a previous experience, like a trip, or a place you have
visited recently. You may be asked to give information, evaluate something, or make
suggestions and recommendations. It is something which we refresh our past experience,
analyse it and make recommendations for improvement.
Structure
The report is the only format of writing which has a title and subheading. Each paragraph
should have a subheading which summarises its main topic. The introduction can always be
Introduction and the conclusion “Conclusion” or “Recommendations”.
Language
The language should be formal and objective. Hence, you should avoid giving your views in
each sentences. However, you must give your opinion in the conclusion or recommendation
paragraph.
Giving your opinion
There are two ways to give your opinion in a report. You can give it at the end of each
paragraph mentioning ways to solve or improve each aspect. Another way is to give your
opinion in the final paragraph, by summarising every aspect in the last paragraph.
Common topics
Trips and excursions
Important events
Visit to museums or local businesses
Attend seminars and talks.
Who will read it ?
The people who are asking for the report will read. This may be an official group or somebody
in authority, like a boss or a college principal.
What style should I use ?
Be clear and avoid unnecessary detail. Give essential information and recommendations. An
impersonal style is often appropriate, avoiding overuse of the pronoun “I”.

Writing Report structure
Reports should have a clear factual heading and may also have subheadings which divide the
writing into short sections. The information should be organised and presented as clearly and
logically as possible, with a short introduction explaining the aims of the report and how the
information was obtained and a suitable conclusion, summing up the information and making
recommendations if necessary.

Sample Answer from Candidate A :
Report on the three-week study and work programme.
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to evaluate the effiency of the three week study and work
programme. It is based on my personal experience, which I recieved while taking part in the
aforementioned programme.
General Findings
The programme as a whole was very engaging and helpful. As it took place in the language
environment, many aspects of the English-language, which will not be taught in the class
room, could be learned through this programme.
Points worthy of praise
The programme has found many buisnesses, with which they cooperate, therefore I could
choose between many companies in which to complete the work part of the programme.
While working for a company I learned a substantial amount of phrases and other jargon
specific to that field, which makes the programme very useful, should you manage to be
employed by a company, which deals with a subject you are interested in.
Issues
No issues can be raised about the work part of the programme. However the English classes
that take place in the morning offer no substantial benefit over classes taken in my home
country, even if they are taught by a native speaker.
Suggestions
Firstly the organizer of the programme should increase the amount of time, that is spent
working during the programme and reduce the amount of classes taken. Moreover the
organizer should keep finding more companies with which to cooperate, to make the
programme attractive to more people with different intrests.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
To : Mr. Leong Chang Fooh, English Teacher
From : Christopher Bernard, Class Monitor
Subject : Ways to make the classroom more pleasant and cosy.
Date : 15 November 202_
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to brainstorm ideas to make the classroom more comfortable and nice.
After being assigned to this special task by our class teacher, we immediately plan the necessary
write-up and completed our report before the deadline. This report describes three features which are
the classroom transformation in teaching method, cleanliness and decoration aspect.
Class Teaching And Learning Transformation
First of all, the classroom transformation to a modern learning and teaching method by teachers are
most welcome. The old-fashion teaching by using chalk and black board is outdated and boring. The
chalk and talk method should be replaced by displaying interesting videos and animation to attract
students in their learning process. The white screen which replaces the black board are more
environmental friendly as dust of chalk is harmful and unhygienic.
Cleanliness
Secondly, the cleanliness of the whole classroom should be enhanced. A duty roster must be planned
to assign members on duty to ensure the rubbish is cleared daily. The floor and window panes must be
swept and wiped regularly to have a conducive environment for learning.
Ambience
Thirdly, the class should be put up with some decorations to create a merrier environment. Table top
should be wrapped with transparent plastic covers and at each corner of the classroom, we should
place some flower pots or rack of books to create a great ambience.
Conclusion
I sincerely hope that my suggestions will be taken into consideration by the teacher and my classmates.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
To : Mr. Leong Chang Fooh, The Principal
From : Aliesya Nurin, Class Monitor, 4 Lestari
Subject : The need to install CCTV in school.
Date : 18 October 202_
Introduction
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write a report on installing security cameras in the school.
To justify this objective, we need to survey the necessity of CCTV. Of late, there are many cases of
untraceable disappearance of belongings from the staff room and extortion cases by some bullies at
hidden corridors.
Surveillance
One of the advantages of installing close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras is it could help monitor the
movement of people in the school. By this way, parents and teachers could be assured that all
strangers who enter and exit the school would be duly captured by the cameras. Besides, bullying and
playing truant along class corridors would be prevented as well.
Cost
However, despite the advantage, the cost of installing the cameras are not cheap. Based on the size of
our school, we would require at least 50 cameras in every corner of the school to have a complete
coverage. Furthermore, professional advice from installer and someone to maintain the system can be
also costly. The initial cost is estimated to go beyond RM60,000. Moreover, even though these cameras
come with a 2-year warranty, these equipment are prone to damage when there is rain and exposed to
extreme heat under the Sun.
Conclusion
As such, I propose that the idea of installing CCTV should be put on hold. Security guards and
measures are already in place. We will review this in due course.

Subject : Raise Fund for the Library
Date : 12 November 202_
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to suggest different ways of raising money to pay for new books and
DVDs for the library and to recommend the best course of action.
Ticket Sale
One of the salient ideas is to sell numbered tickets and offer attractive prizes. Students and teachers
could be asked to bring in unwanted items that would be suitable as prizes and seek school suppliers
who might be willing to contribute prizes for the prize draw. The tickets will be sold at an affordable
price.
Sponsored Run
Another possibility would be to organising a sponsored run around the school surroundings. Students
could ask their friends and family to give a certain amount for every mile they complete. It would be a
good idea if we could further get sponsorship from companies who would like to contribute and chip
in for the sponsored run.
Recommendation
Based on the above two suggestions, I recommend that we organize a sponsored run. Although the
advantage of a prize draw is that it would be easier to organize, the plan might come to nothing if we
are unable to find enough suitable prizes or sell enough tickets. A sponsored run, on the other hand, is
likely to raise more money and would have the added benefit of involving more students and staff.

Subject : Leisure Facilities in Kuala Lumpur
Date : 12 May 202_
Introduction
The aim of this report is to assess the leisure facilities available in Kuala Lumpur. It is based on
information made available by the Selangor Tourist Office, and on views expressed by local people
who were interviewed.
Sport
Kuala Lumpur has a wide range of sport facilities, both public and private. Among some of the popular
ones are Royal Lake Club and Kelab Shah Alam Selangor. The facilities include a swimming pool, a
sport hall and tennis court. Membership cost could be on the high side, but a special temporary
membership is available to visitors. The public swimming pool located at the suburban areas is older,
less attractive and often overcrowded, but entry fee is at only RM5.00.
Theatres
There are several theatres which offers top-class experience. To name a few, they are Gold Class
experience of Pavillion and 1 Utama and The Garden Aurum Theatre. Even though many are staying at
home to catch their favourite films via Netflix, on some days, heading to the big screen is a must. Most
people who visit these theatres are the working class and senior citizens.
