The Cooking Contest
Mrs Prisha is a homemaker. She is happy looking after her husband and three children.
Besides that, she is active in her neighbourhood's Residents Association. She attends
cooking classes taught by a famous chef there and often cooks delicious meals for her
family.
One day,the chairman of the association organised a cooking contest. Participants
were asked to create new dishes.The most exotic and tasty dish would win a prize. Mrs
Prisha’s children advised her to enter the contest.
On the day of the contest, Mrs Prisha got up early as she could not sleep. She had
cold feet and told her family that she could not enter the contest as she was afraid she
might fail. She finally agreed to take part in the contest after much encouragement from
her family. She cooked a great dish and won the first prize of RM1,000.The judges said
that her dish was creative and tasty. Mrs Prisha thanked her family for encouraging her.

Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

It was Mavendraj’s 10th birthday. His father bought him a puppy for his birthday! His
name was Sam. He was very cute and had a beautiful coat of golden fur. Mavendraj’s
father told him that he would have to take care of Sam and train him.Mavendraj agreed
to all the conditions because he wanted a puppy so badly.

Mavendraj started to take care of Sam and train him. He tried to teach Sam to sit
and respond to his call, but Sam did not obey him. Whenever Mavendraj ordered Sam
to do something, Sam would just ignore him and walk away or sit and scratch himself.
Mavendraj was disappointed.

Mavendraj's father told him to be patient with Sam. He told him to reward him with
dog treats every time Sam obeyed him. Mavendraj listened to his father’s advice. He
started training Sam for half an hour each day. He was gentle with Sam and patiently
taught him the tricks over and over again. He rewarded Sam every time he obeyed him
and took away the reward whenever Sam did not listen to him.

After one week, Sam had mastered obeying Marendraj's commands to sit and lie
down. Mavendraj was glad as he had a well-trained puppy. Mavendraj plans to train
Sam to learn interesting tricks in future.

Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

Do you like pickled mangoes? They’re delicious! Have you pickled mangoes before? If
you haven’t, you should give it a shot sometime, as it’s very easy.

First, pick unripe mangoes.You can pick a few or as many of them as you want! Then,
wash the mangoes to make sure they’re clean. Next, slice them into small pieces. After

that, store the sliced mangoes in a jar. Add vinegar and sugar into the jar until they fill
it up.

Wait for at least 12 hours so that the vinegar and sugar solution turns into a sweet

solution to check that it has turned into the syrup. Once the mangoes are ready, you
can eat them just as they are or serve them with rice. Share this recipe with all the
mango lovers you know!
