interclub events, of which I am sure our members will be looking forward to.!
!
! To provide a safe and comfortable environment our club needs to have well ventilated
areas for dining and we have converted Drop Zone and Putra Cafe to non air conditioned
areas with fans and opened doors for better air flow. Both of these venues are occupied
frequently by dining members especially small private groups.!
!
! The F&B management and staff are working very hard to handle the frequently large
crowds. Constant reminders are made to remind members to follow SOPs, social distancing
and wearing masks when required to. Most members adhere to the reminders. Our club has
also put up notices of the penalty imposed by the enforcement authorities on members for
failure to follow SOPs and such breaches will be at the members’ own expense. Our club has
managed the crowds well with good cooperation and support from members.!
!
! Our Monthly medal events have received overwhelming response and since December
we have had to use both courses to accommodate the fantastic response.!
!
! The Club has held the inaugural Walkman competition which had also similarly
received a good response. It is very challenging to walk 18 holes pulling trolley.!
!
! Thank you golfing members for supporting our club’s golf events.!
!
! Our club’s dues collections have also improved with Accounts personnel calling and
sending reminders to members for overdue payments. The Accounts department’s concerted
effort in collection has brought our club’s cashflow position back to a healthy level. There is
now in place a monthly Key Performance Index established for Accounts on collections. A
projected monthly cashflow statement is being used to drive collections, examine monthly
payments and planning our cash position.!
!
! The club has been receiving a steady stream of bookings for the banquet halls, Putra
Court and also golfing packages, a testament to the Marketing Department’s efforts which is
now seeing a hive of activity. This will augur well for year 2022 where the Marketing
Department has targeted to make a significant profit for financial year ending 2022. !
!
Best wishes to all our members, friends, staff and management, suppliers and
businesses partners for 2022.

Migration to using Handicap Index in determining the category of play.
!
With the multiple Teeing Areas being used for our Club Competitions, many members
wonder which categories they are playing.
Before we can go forward, we need to understand the Rules of Handicapping in World
Handicap System (WHS) which comes effect from January 2020. Rules of Handicapping
hinges on The Course Rating System to measure the Course Rating and Slope Rating of
the course in play.
!
1) Course Rating is defined as the WHS mark that indicates the evaluation of the
playing difficulty of a course for scratch players (a player with a 0.0 Handicap
Index) under normal course and weather conditions. It is expressed as strokes
taken to one decimal place, and is based on length and other obstacles to the
extent that they affect the scoring difficulty of the scratch player.
!
2) Slope Rating is defined as the WHS mark that indicates the measurement of the
relative difficulty of a course for players who are not scratch players compared
to the Course Rating. Slope Rating is computed from the difference between the
Bogey Rating and the Course Rating. The lowest Slope Rating is 55 and the
highest is 155. A golf course of Standard relative playing difficulty has a Slope
Rating of 113.
!
3) Bogey Rating represents the scoring difficulty of a course for the bogey player (a
player with 20.0 Handicap Index for Male and 24.0 Handicap Index for Women). It
is expressed as strokes taken to one decimal point.
!
Calculation of a Handicap Index
Rule 5.2 of Rules of Handicapping
A Handicap Index is calculated from the lowest Score Differential in the scoring
record. An average of the lowest 8 of the most recent 20 Score Differential and rounds
to the nearest tenth. The Maximum Handicap Index that can be issued to a player is
54.0. The frequency of Handicap Index Revision is on real time basis once the score
card is updated by the club Handicapping Committee.

!
Course Handicap Calculation
Rule 6.1 Rules of Handicapping
!
An 18-hole Course Handicap is calculated as follows:
Course Handicap = Handicap Index X Slope Rating / 113
+ (Course Rating – Par Rating)
!
GRCHSS Sub Com has reviewed the current practice and the recommendation was
endorsed by The General Committee to migrate from current arbitrary Handicap to
WHS Handicap Index for our club events.
!
The New structure
With the migration, member need to know his or her Handicap Index and crossed
checked with the table to determine the category that he or she will be playing.
!
The following Formula for Course Handicap will be used to determine the Course
Handicap:
Example 1:
The Lakes, Blue Tee, CR = 72.1, SR = 136 and Par Rating = 72.
Course Handicap at The Lakes Blue Tee
= 10.5 x 136/113 + (72.1-72) = 12.63 + 0.1 = 12.73
The player’s Course Handicap at The Lakes /Blue Tee is 13
!
Example 2:
The Lakes White Tee, CR = 70.5, SR = 130 and Par Rating = 72
Course Handicap at The Lakes White Tee
= 17.5 x 130/113 + (70.5-72) = 20.13 – 1.5 = 18.63
The player’s Course Handicap at The Lakes / White Tee is 19
