2 DUNSTABLE TOWN v St Panteleimon Good afternoon and a warm welcome to the Management, coaching staff, players, and supporters of St Panteleimon ahead of today’s league clash. St Panteleimon arrive here currently in 4th place and enjoying another strong season. They took 3 points off us at the start of the season in a game where I was disappointed with us. We started the game very well and got ourselves level at 1-1 before they received a red card, and it galvanised them. Unfortunately, we ended up on the wrong side of a 5-goal thriller for the neutral, but I wasn’t a neutral so was left deflated. A lot has changed since then for both sides, so I am sure another tough game awaits us in our quest to really kick start our season. St Pantelimon have become a real nemesis for us where we are yet to beat them in 90 minutes and today will be a real test for us but one, we are very much looking forward to. They are a free-scoring team and handle the ball very well. Last season we lost 1-0 at home but I would say was one of our best performances of the season. On the day we were excellent but unfortunately for us we found their Goalkeeper in sensational form, and we couldn’t get back into the game after they took a 1-0 lead via the penalty spot. After last week’s cancellation against Baldock Town we were left with a feeling of frustration which really epitomises our start to the season. As I have said to the players and staff what feels like on repeat is that we have our destiny in our own hands, and it was what we do over the next 5 months that ultimately will determine the shape of our season. Our sole aim today is to find a way to win! We have no divine right to win any game so we will need to earn it this afternoon. Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to the Regiment for their card given to me at our previous game to celebrate 100 games as Head Coach of the club. I had no idea how quickly it has come round, and the gesture was massively appreciated so thank you to you guys. To some it might be a small gesture but to me it is much more than that. It hasn’t been an easy season and over the last 100+ games it is fair to say we have had more ups and downs than Alton Towers, but we fight on, and we fight on together. It is not often in football that you ever see the incredible support we receive. I always put myself in the shoes of the supporters and ask myself how I would feel if I was a supporter. The simple word I can conjure up is frustrated! We came into the season with high hopes and as I said last week things haven’t quite gone the way we were hoping. It’s time now for the players and us to re-write the 2nd chapter of the season and get on a roll starting with today. We now have players who are back fit and available HEAD COACH JOE DEENEY 1883-2023 140 YEARS DUNSTABLE TOWN FC

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 3 and there is competition all over the pitch from Number 1 through to Number 11. No-one and I mean NO-ONE is safe. Football is a ruthless business without question. For me now our lack of a run is what has been happening in both boxes. Football will always be about being ruthless and clinical in both boxes. We can talk shapes / systems and statistics until we burn the midnight oil but it’s all about tangible evidence if we are to progress and be successful! Goalkeepers are there to keep the ball out of the net! That hasn’t changed since time began and nor will it. When Carl Knox is fit, Alex Desmond returns from suspension and with the everevolving Sean Locke-Hart then we have 4 excellent Goalkeepers fighting for the number 1 shirt with Connor Coulson currently with the shirt! Full backs are there to stop crosses first and foremost! I am very old school like that. Crosses cost goals and that is why the players tasked in the full back roles are first and foremost there to stop balls into our box. The attacking side is always secondary to what we do without the ball. The centre backs (AKA “Cement heads”) are there to keep the ball out our goal! In theory it’s not that difficult to understand but it’s hard. Goalkeepers and Defenders must be wired in for 100% of the game. 99.9% concentration = 100% failure. I said weeks ago that we need to get back to zero’s and one’s against. Unfortunately, there aren’t zero’s but one’s instead, we need zeros against us! One of my many sayings in football is a clean sheet means you can’t get beat. It can feel like a double-edged sword football at times. In order to win games, you need to keep clean sheets but at the same time you want to be free flowing, and score loads of goals. We are creating a copious number of chances and as confidence builds then I have no doubt the goals will flow which then in turns gives us greater confidence to see the games through. The late goals we are conceding aren’t down to fitness levels in my opinion. There is a tangible edginess in our play when we are defending a 1-0 lead going into the dying moments of the game. We end up slashing at clearances, giving away poor set plays which is always dangerous as it allows the opposition to load your box and create problems. Once we get a couple of wins under our belt like last season and the season before we will be off and running and our surge will be on. I would like to thank you all on behalf of both the players and staff for your post-match reactions. Staying behind to clap our lads off especially after a late equaliser or late winner against us is never easy. I feel sick for not only myself but my players, my chairman, board and most importantly you! You all pay week in week out to come and support us all and it is not a cheap hobby. The support you give our lads when they are often lower than a snake’s waistcoat is exemplary. Please keep that coming and we will keep on giving everything whilst I am here. I will know when the time is right to pass the baton on to the next custodian of this wonderful football club. There is however a lot of fight left in me, Durcs and Anthony. I said when we took over what feels like yesterday there would be highs and lows and that it would never be boring. I often wish we could be a little more boring when driving home after a high scoring defeat or draw. Maybe a boring and mundane 1-0 isn’t that bad on those days. Football is an entertainment business and that is why I have a degree of pleasure in not remembering too many 0-0’s during our time here. Enjoy today’s game.

4 DUNSTABLE TOWN v St Panteleimon

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 5 Welcome to Creasey Park this Winter afternoon, and particularly to our opponents St Panteleimon. We will be hoping to reverse the 2-1 loss suffered earlier in the season, where, despite being down to 10 men for a large part of the game, goals either side of half time saw them over the line. Our fixtures have certainly been tight and entertaining affairs over the last few seasons, with no lack of incident and occasional controversy. There are very few things more frustrating than a cancelled fixture. We were all looking forward to facing a strong Baldock Town team last Saturday. Despite our offer to play the game on ATP 2, as we did with two fixtures last season, the league deemed that it was too early in the season to take this option, and that the lack of covered seating was also a deciding factor in their decision. We weren’t the only casualties of the inclement conditions, but it does feel as if just getting a consistent run of fixtures is proving elusive. This frustration, coupled with two distinctly average performances from the England team, only increases the desire to get 3 points this afternoon. Those who attended the Gladwish Trophy fixture against Sawbridgeworth Town recently, will have enjoyed the win on penalties. It was a deserved victory with Joe able to use 16 players and get some much-needed match fitness into returning players. Conceding an equaliser in the 94th minute is always galling, but I felt that we’d had the upper hand for much of the game and that the quality of our penalties saw us rightfully into the next round away at Leverstock Green in December. Next Saturday we take the short trip to the 360 to take on Crawley Green, which I know you will support in large numbers, and then on the following Saturday we are at home to league leaders Real Bedford in what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter. As a club we are always exploring ways to increase our commercial revenue. Increasing gates helps massively, but forming lasting partnerships with local businesses must be near the top of our agenda. This may take the form of match day sponsorship, utilising the hospitality packages available from the CBS Hub, or it may be sponsoring one of our players or coaching staff. We still have plenty of opportunities to support in this way and can certainly tailor packages to sort your individual or business needs. Don’t hesitate to ask. Finally, thank you for your continuing support, and let’s cheer the Blues to victory this afternoon. Partnerships Neil Barker 1883-2023 140 YEARS DUNSTABLE TOWN FC

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 11 the history St Panteleimon The Community of St. Panteleimon was founded in 1975 by Archbishop Athenagoras (Kokkinakis) of Thyateira & Great Britain. He celebrated the first Divine Liturgy on the 27th July 1975 at the Community’s original location at the Anglican Church of St. Peter in Sumner Road, Harrow. During March 1978 Archimandrite Meletios Webber became the new Parish Priest. The Community then moved to the Methodist Church at Welldom Cresent, Harrow in May 1981. Father Barnabas Georgiou took over as the new priest in March 1985. The Community moved yet again in 1989 to another building – the Anglican Mission Church of the Holy Spirit. This was to be the Church’s permanent location for the years to come. On the 21st January 1994 the Community completed the purchase of the freehold property of the Holy Spirit Church, the neighbouring hall and the vicarage. The Community numbers some 10,000 members and is a registered charity. Saturday 16th May 2015 was a very beautiful and sunny day in London. It was also an historic day for St. Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Community. A Football Team was established with the name of “St. Panteleimon FC”! It was decided to compete at the Cypriot Football League of London, called KOPA! The KOPA Registration was confirmed at its AGM on Sunday 14th June 2015. This brought together many people who love the “Beautiful Game”, especially the young generation! Over the next few weeks as many as 60 young people came to train and tried to be selected for St. Panteleimon First Team. The vision of St. Panteleimon Football Club is to develop, build and maintain a high quality, transparent and holistic program that provides a quality sporting and social environment where everyone feels welcome to participate and has a strong and proud association with its community. To provide an inspirational and motivational environment where preparation, practice and hard work generate legitimate opportunities for success, while emphasising the importance and development of fundamentals and techniques necessary for positive experiences in football and in life, creating a consistently exciting and entertaining program that generates a wave of support, pride, and tradition for their entire community to share. From the beginning of the founding of St. Panteleimon FC great interest was shown by the local as well as the international press. Many important individuals had sent their kind massages, good wishes, and congratulations. The Team was honoured to have Gary Karsa as its first Manager. He was No. 2 Manager at Aston Villa (English Premiership) until recently. George Frantzeskou accepted to be the Chairman, and later when Gary Karsa resigned, he took over the Manager’s post as well. The other members of the Committee are Chris Andreou ViceChairman, Savvas Andreou Treasurer, Panayiotis Argyrou Assistant Treasurer, Soteris Merentitis Public Relations Officer, James Neofytou Twitter page administrator, Dr. Serafim Kiriakidis

12 DUNSTABLE TOWN v St Panteleimon and Soteris Pefanis members of the Committee. The Parish Priest of St. Panteleimon Church Fr. Anastasios D. Salapatas is the Chaplain of the Team. Savvas Andreou & Panayiotis Argyrou are the senior sponsors, accompanied by the generous financial support of various other individuals and companies. The Emblem of St. Panteleimon FC was created based on an idea by Fr. Anastasios Salapatas. The artistic work for the emblem was carried out by Mrs. Evie Efthimiou, a dedicated member of the community, while the team captain, Nick Salapatas, suggested the motto “Faith First.” The emblem incorporates various elements, including the team’s name at the centre. The colours used represent the Byzantine Empire (purple), Greece (blue), and Cyprus (yellow and light bronze). The motto “Faith First” symbolizes both their Christian faith and the unwavering belief in victory that the players should always maintain. The emblem features the Holy Cross, signifying their Christian identity, as well as the emblem of the Hellenic Nation. The inclusion of the ancient column represents the rich Classical Civilization of both Greece and Cyprus. Additionally, the emblem includes the symbol of the Byzantine Empire, with a football at its center, emphasizing the connection between their Greek Orthodox Civilization and the sport of football. Finally, the year of the team’s founding, 2015, is displayed on the top of the column. His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain, as soon as he was made aware of the founding of St. Panteleimon FC gave his Blessing, in the form of the following letter: “Dear Fr. Anastasios, We received your epistle of 22nd May, by which you inform us of your intention to establish a Football Team at your Community and thank you very much. We offer our blessing to this fine endeavour of the Community, which will attract the Youth and it will create attractive conditions for sports. We congratulate you for this initiative of yours and wishing health to you and to your associates and the supervision of the Holy God in your projects, I remain with warm wishes and with love and honour in the Lord. DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 13 to the generous sponsors (Savvas Andreou and Panayiotis Argyrou) that they had secured at the first season the use of the great facilities of Barnet FC, which was very close to the Church of St. Panteleimon & St. Paraskevi, only 1.8 miles away. For the second season the Team has moved to even better facilities, at the Silver Jubilee Stadium, 2 miles away from their Church, giving St. Panteleimon the best sporting facilities in the KOPA League. They competed in the Cypriot KOPA League for two seasons, winning the double in 2016, as Second Division champions and Cup winners. In the 2017-18 season the “Saints” entered the FA system, joining the Middlesex County Football League Division 1, and were promoted as undefeated Champions! In the 2018-19 season, St Panteleimon achieved even greater success. They had a remarkable performance in the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division, securing both the Championship title and the Cup. Throughout the entire year, they suffered only one loss, making their campaign highly impressive. Additionally, the team had the honour of participating in the FA Vase for the first time in their early history. They performed admirably, reaching the first-round proper after successfully progressing through the first two qualifying rounds. Building on their achievements, St Panteleimon experienced a series of promotions, allowing them to advance to Step 5 in the football league pyramid. Their inaugural season in the Spartan South Midlands League, the team made the decision to move to Hertford Town’s ground, providing them with a new home venue for the 2022-23 season. With the acquisition of several talented players, there was great optimism for St Panteleimon to achieve even more. However, their season started slowly, as they went winless in their first three league games, leading to thoughts of a season focused on consolidation. Nonetheless, their fortunes took a turn in the new year, as they climbed to an impressive 2nd place in the table, nurturing dreams of challenging Leighton Town and Stotfold for the title. Despite ultimately securing a respectable 6th place finish, with four wins in their last ten games, it was still a remarkable achievement considering it was only their second season at Step 5. In the FA Cup, their journey was cut short in a penalty shootout at Pancake Lane, marking the end of their secondever FA Cup campaign. In the Vase, they fared better, securing victories against Letchworth and Harpenden. A favourable penalty shootout against Sheringham from Norfolk, but they eventually bowed out at Pinchbeck United’s Sir Halley Stewart Fields. In the Middlesex FA Senior Charity Cup, they achieved victories against Bedfont Sports and Uxbridge, but were unfortunate to be eliminated in the quarterfinals through a penalty shootout against Northwood. Looking ahead to this season, the Saints relocated once again, moving closer to their roots. They play their home games at the Lantern Stadium, the home ground of Potters Bar Town. today’s visitors St Panteleimon

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 31 Sunday saw the arrival of Welwyn Pegasus. A team that DTFC had lost to earlier in the season. A first half into the wind played into the Lionesses’ hands. A dominant half, led to half-a-dozen clear cut chances, but only one was converted. Time after time the Lionesses breached the Welwyn backline, yet they could not finish. A sole Madison Sharp goal meant the scoreline did not reflect the dominance they had. But patience was what was required, and the management team had a job to do at half-time to ensure the Lionesses remained patient, stick to principles and ensure they remained focused. The Lionesses’ dominance continued without reward for the first 25 minutes of the 2nd half. The Lionesses keeper being a spectator for a lot of the game, finding time to sit down at one point. Then the breakthrough, Ella Allwood receiving the ball in the box and the midfielder dispatching with power into the net. The 3rd followed shortly after with Emily Hobbs battling in the left channel, cutting back and firing into the corner. The Lionesses could then relax and breathe a little easier. The 4th came from Millie Rhodes, firing in a corner from the left, deceiving everyone before finding the back of the net. The 5th wrapped up the match with Seval Gunduz flicking in at the back post. Onwards to this weekend; the Dunstable Derby. Dunstable Town take on AFC’s development team. They are in the Premier Division, 3 divisions above our Lionesses, but the Lionesses’ confidence is running high. The evolution is clear to see. They go into the derby on the back of 3 wins, having scored 18 goals to 2. The derby kicks off at 2pm on the main pitch at Creasey Park tomorrow (Sun).

36 DUNSTABLE TOWN v St Panteleimon Friday 3rd November 2023 Northern Ireland Premier League – Inver Park, Larne Sitting in 340th place in UEFA’s Rankings, one place about Floriana from Malta, one below Iceland’s Vikingur, you can find Northern Ireland’s current champions, Larne FC. When they lined up in Helsinki for the Champions League First Qualifying Round against HJK in July 2023, it was a remarkable turnaround for a club that five years previously was staring at life in the third tier of Northern Irish football. The club had been stripped of its senior status in 2008 after they failed to gain a place in the new IFA Premiership as part of the reorganisation of football in Northern Ireland, only getting their licence back in 2016 when they entered the NIFL Championship. In 2018 the club was purchased by online estate agent Purplebricks cofounder Kenny Bruce. At that time, the club were sitting bottom of the second tier in Northern Ireland, the future looking very bleak with dwindling attendances. The bonhomie created after the national team’s performance at Euro2016 in France had failed to reach the northeast coast. Always the challenger of the norms, Bruce set a vision of bringing European success to Larne. Many scoffed, but five years later, who was now laughing? After winning the NIFL Championship in 2019 and returning to the top flight just in time for two seasons of COVIDimpacted campaigns. But in April 2023 the club beat Crusaders 2-0 to claim their first ever Irish League title and qualify for the Champions League for the first time. Stuart Fuller is an accomplished author, renowned for his nearly award-winning literary works in “The Football Tourist” book series. He is also Chairman of Lewes FC.

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 37 Whilst their European exploits would be over by the end of July, the main objective for the season was the retention of their title. The NIFL Premiership has 4-5 teams who have the resources to win the league including Larne, in third place before tonight’s game and Cliftonville arriving in second place. However, both will have their work cut out catching Linfield who already had an 8 point lead at the top of the table. Google Maps is a great friend in 99% of situations but when it goes wrong, it really does go wrong. I’m sure there are other routes that it could have suggested from my port-side hotel to Inver Park rather than walking a mile down the hard shoulder of the major arterial road down to Belfast. I took some comfort from the occasion sign, reminding motorists that there were pedestrians on the road. I survived and arrived at Inver Park scratch-free. The ground is in the shadow of the motorway, on the side of a hill. A stand, half terraces, half seats runs the length of the 3G pitch, with covered, seated stands at each end. Cliftonville had been given the far end of the ground, whilst the young group of hardcore Larne fans made all the noise in the Church End. The game started at a rapid pace, with tackles flying in from all sides. The visitors came close in the opening exchanges, but it was Larne who took the lead in the 9th minute when Paul O’Neill celebrated his new 3 year deal by powering a header home from a pinpoint Thomson cross. O’Neill almost doubled the lead two minutes later, but the outstretched arms of Odomosu saved the day. Larne kept pressing forward, with Randall hitting the bar from distance before they had their second in the 36th minute, Joe Thomson hitting a low drive home from the edge of the box, earning a yellow card for his celebration, deemed “too excessive” by the fussy referee. The half-time whistle saw an exodus of away fans, having seen enough it seemed but their team came out all guns blazing. However, Larne keeper Rohan Ferguson was in inspired form, and the woodwork saving them in after 70 minutes. A flurry of yellow cards gave the final few minutes some real edge. It became even more intense when Ronan Hale took advantage a mistake by the Larne keeper, misjudging the bounce on the 3G pitch and slotted it home. But it was too little too late. Three points to the home side, closing the gap with Linfield at the top of the table to five points. Football over it was time to walk the highways of Northern Ireland again back to the hotel, via a switch half in the memorabilia- clad walls of the Supporters Club bar. A 50th birthday party was underway back at the hotel, where a group of ladies crowded round the entrance, smoking. I avoided the grabbing hands, as Depeche Mode said, and headed to my room, ready to cross the water for a big day tomorrow.
