Research Project Development
The following is the process for the submission of a research project from its initiation to its
final stages. The research project should be within the principal investigator’s(s’) subspecialty
and/or interest, but if he/she/they submit proposals outside their “recognizable” area of
expertise, justification must be submitted along with his/her/their proposals.

A. APPLICATION PROCESS
There are two types of application forms required by the Research Department: one for
prospective/retrospective/technical development projects and the other is for case reports/
reviews.
*All application material is available online at the KKESH research website.

1. Prospective/retrospective/technical development projects:

They should show/include the following:

a. Cover page
The cover page should show the following
i. Project title
ii. Type of project
iii. Start and anticipated duration dates
iv. Name(s), signature(s), contact number(s) of investigator(s)

b. Abstract:

The abstract page should show the following

i. Date

ii. Principal investigator(s) full name(s) with proper title(s)

iii. Project title

iv. Type of study

v. Structured abstract (between 150-200 words)

vi. Patient(s) medical record(s) number(s) [only for case reports]

vii. Project summary (abstract page) as above and must include a
hypothesis: this should present a clear and concise statement
on the background and of the project objective, methods to be
employed, and procedure to be undertaken. It should clearly
state the expected results, including the benefits of the research,
and in particular, the applicability of the project to the eye
health care needs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
