Greenway Forest Dream

A story about a girl in Greenway forest.

Greenway Forest Dream
Written by: Jayla Kinman

It's an amazing day to go and
walk in the Greenway Forest.
Not too hot or cold. There were
no clouds, the sky was blue,
and the birds were singing
freely.

I think Greenway is a good
name for the forest because all
you could see was green except
for the brown on the tree trunks
but even they were covered with
leaves, vines, and bushes.

Once I got to a clearing in the
forest, I sat down by a tree to
rest a little before going on. I
almost fell asleep to the birds
singing. There was no other
noise, just the birds.

The bird's singing was soft
and calm like watching a baby
sleep. I decided to rest a little
more before going on, I still had
about 2 miles to walk to get to
the end of the forest, then It
would be a 6-mile walk back.

As I got up from sitting by the
tree, I heard a strange noise
coming from some bushes by a
big tree.

At first, I thought it could just
be another person walking in
Greenway Forest, but then I got
a feeling it could be something
dangerous like a bear or
something that will eat you.

I got really scared and said.
“Hello, anyone

there.” Thinking it was just
another person.

I heard nothing but the bush
moving then out of nowhere I
heard a soft growl. I let out a
short soft sigh thinking it could
just be a baby animal.

I walked closer to the bush
but then I heard the soft growl
again. I stopped in my tracks as
a small cub walked out from
behind the bush.

I jumped a little. The bear had
deep dark black eyes. The fur
was a dark black like when you
close your eyes at night and
can't see anything. The nose
was a lighter black than the fur.

I watched the bear for about
ten seconds as it walked closer
to me. I got scared and walked
back a step and stepped on a
berry. I stepped off the berry
back to the tree I was resting
against just two minutes ago. I
saw the bear looking at the
berry. It looked sad.

“Were you gonna eat that?” I
said to the bear.

I grabbed some
berries from a bush right next to
the tree.

Then I set the berries next to
the bear and It started to eat.

“Are you lost?” I said to the
bear.

The bear looked up
and nodded like it understood
what I was saying.

I was about to say something
to the bear, but then I heard a
loud noise coming from the left.
Without thinking, I turned and
ran thinking that noise came
from the bear’s mom.

I ran and ran for what felt like
forever, but then I turned around
and saw the cub behind me. I
looked at its dark eyes, and it
looked at me, too.

Then it turned and headed back
to the opening where I first saw it.
When I was looking in its eyes I
felt like It was telling me to follow
it. I thought to myself for a second
wondering If I should follow it or
not. I thought that if I followed it
back I would see the cub’s mom
standing there and looking at me
with angry eyes.

I was about to turn around
and run as fast as I could back
home but the thought of
following the cub filled my head,
so I turned and followed the
cub.

Once I caught up to the cub I
stayed behind it a little, so it
wouldn’t see me. The bear
walked fast, so I had to run a
little to catch up.

The cub started to run, so I
started to run then the cub ran
faster and faster. The cub was
running so fast that in about 5
seconds I couldn’t see the cub
at all. It was like he vanished
into thin air.

Once I got to the clearing, I
was at earlier, I saw a huge bear.
I stopped and saw the cub
standing by his or her mother.

I stared at the mother in horror
then out of nowhere the mother
bear swiped at my face. The next
thing I knew everything went
black…
