Shelia C. Morgan WELCOME

President/CEO Welcome to the 51st Annual Chicago Business Opportunity Fair! We are so excited
ChicagoMSDC, Inc that you are joining us as we build on upon five decades of fearless efforts to develop
contracting opportunities for minority businesses. This year we look to the future with our
pg. 18 theme “Building the Next…”

In its infancy the Chicago Business Opportunity Fair (CBOF) began as a one day
engagement with 16 major corporations and 162 minority entrepreneurs. Today, the
conference hosts more than 50 corporate sponsors, thousands of participants and
multiple events over two days. The success of CBOF led to the development of the
National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), which now includes 23
affiliate councils, 1,750+ corporate members, 13,000+ certified minority businesses and
global affiliates in South Africa, Canada, China and the United Kingdom.

I am proud of the legacy in supplier diversity that started here in Chicago. I am also proud
of the economic impact made by our minority-owned, minority-operated and minority-
controlled firms that remain vital to corporate and government supply chains locally,
nationally and globally.

The business case for supplier diversity is stronger than ever, yet it remains constantly
under attack. We must consider what’s next in the future of business diversity. How will
minority businesses develop, grow, succeed and impact the economy without corporate
advocates and government legislation? This year’s CBOF51 theme “BUILDING the
NEXT…” is an open-ended statement and challenge to explore new possibilities that
could shape our future. What will we build and how will we build it?

The 51st Annual Chicago Business Opportunity Fair starts Tuesday morning April
24th with a wide array of educational workshops, seminars and presentations. Running
concurrently, the Corporate 1-on-1 Smart Sessions will connect qualified, minority
suppliers with more than 50 different buying organizations for private introductions and
discussions about contracting.

Wednesday morning April 25th, the ChicagoMSDC will host the 2018 Sponsors
Breakfast & Awards, featuring NBA legend Isiah L. Thomas III, CEO and Chairman of
Isiah International, LLC.

The ceremonial ribbon cutting will immediately follow the breakfast to signify the opening
of the highly anticipated 51st Annual CBOF Trade Fair! This year’s showcase is packed
with too many details to share here, but let me assure you that our sponsors and
exhibitors will impress you.

When the trade fair comes to a close, we invite you to join us at the Hyatt Regency
Chicago’s Big Bar in the East Tower for one last chance to connect.

On behalf of the ChicagoMSDC Board of Directors, corporate members and staff,
the CBOF51 planning committee and I welcome you to the 51st Annual Business
Opportunity Fair!

Best Wishes,

Shelia C. Morgan
