I N T R O D U C T I O N Do you know there is various kind of lens characteristic from different aspects such as its material, types, tinted and others? It is applied to deliver the best and good quality of lens to the customers which can help them to see clearer and better vision . This indirectly can improve their life quality P U R P O S E S The purpose of this assignment is to expose student on the lens characteristics and the lens manufacturer available in Malaysia. From this assignment, we can already know which brand offers lens suits our criteria. From this, we can know which lens is the best/ suitable to our patient following their request budgets.

H O Y A SIN G L E VISIO N T Y P E S O F L E N S MONOVISION LENS BIFOCAL LENS A V A I L A B L E Bifocal lens is a lens that has 2 vision correction in one lens which is distance (top) and near (bottom). Mainly use for presbyopia Adv: need only 1 pair of glasses Disadv: image jump when changing vision from distance to near. Example of brand: Monovision lens is a lens that only has 1 vision correction either distance (myopia) or near (hyperope). PROGRESSIVE LENS OCCUPATIONAL LENS Progressive lens is a lens that has 3 vision correction in one lens which is distance (top), intermediate (middle) and near (bottom). Mainly use for presbyopia Adv: need only 1 pair of glasses and improve cosmetics appearance Disadv: Peripheral distortion, longer adaptation and more expensive. Example of brand: progressive lens for clarity and constant focus progressive lens for clarity at any distance customized for optimised vision Occupational lens is sometimes known as enhanced reading glasses. The principle is similar to the progressive lens. Solutions for patient that need to perform task at near and intermediate proxmity. Example of brand

Protect from high risk of cataracts (block as much as light) It effected by weather which it takes longer time to darken during cloudy or rainy days. WHAT Photochromic lens are lens that is coated with a chemical that cause the lens to darken (absorb the light) under bright light and clear in normal surroundings. This lens can get extra dark under bright light. Example for driver, running, playing golf and others. Hoya Sensity Shine gives wearer exclusive look as it has mirror coating which attract more trendy and fashionable lens along with the adaptive function.
T I N T E D L E N S E S It can distort colour perception Tinted is permanent WHAT Tinted lens is lens with pigmented dye in them and it comes in variety of colours and shades either gradient or solid. FUNCTION Enhance vision and protect eyes from harmful UV light, comfortable and also can enhance your style during indoor or outdoors activities. DISADVANTAGES YELLOWTINTED Yellow tinted provides excellent depth perception and it perfect for low-level light condition such as cycling and tennis. GREEN TINTED Green tinted good for everyday use and it can reduce glare together with brightens shadows. It useful in rainy or sunny weather. GREY/BLACK TINTED Grey or black tinted also good for everyday use and it provide true colour perception. It can reduce glare and useful during sunny and overcast weather.

L E N S M A T E R I A L CR-39 (PLASTIC) CR-39 is plastic polymer which commonly used for spectacle lens manufacturer. It require UV coating to protect from sunlights. It light and durable but usually it is used for low prescription power. POLYCARBONATE Polycarbonate lens is made up from thermoplastic material which is strong but it is more lightweight. Polycarbonate does not require UV coating like CR-39. The disadvantages of this material is it need to have anti-scratch as polycarbonate lens has poor abrasion resistance. TRIVEX LENS Trivex lens is one of the rival to polycarbonate lens as it is thin, lightweight and also has good impact resistance. It also provide 100% UV protection Different from polycarb, trivex give more sharper vision at peripheral and central. HIGH INDEX LENS High index lens is use to make the spectacle thinner and lighter especially for the high prescription power. It can improves cosmetics appearance of the wearer because as higher the prescription, the lens thickness also increase. It also offers UV protection and scratch-proof materials besides can gives the wearer greater comfort. Lastly, it also reduce eye distortion which results from thicker lens.
