Puerto Rican Parrot
The Puerto Rican parrot is the national bird of PR. It is the only bird endemic to PR. IT is an
endangered species, with only 70 left in the wild. It is a herbivore. Its diet consists of flowers, fruits,
leaves, bark and nectar obtained from the forest's canopy. The bird usually mates for life, with pairs only
changing mates if one bird perishes or abandons the nest. The Taino hunted it for food consumption.
However, they managed to maintain a healthy ecological balance. If we want the Puerto Rican parrot to
survive, we need to help the environment.
