“As I got older, I became more self-conscious that my front teeth crossed over.
I didn’t really know how to go about sorting this until a friend recommended Queensway. I had a fixed brace
and wore it for 18 months.
It was an amazing feeling to get the braces off and see my new straight smile.
It has made a big difference to
my confidence - thank you!”

CLUB PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
AFTER LAST SEASON, ARGUABLY OUR BEST EVER, ONE WONDERS HOW CAN WE IMPROVE?
The 1st XV might well have finished much higher in the league while the Lions only need greater consistency in availability and performance to challenge the ‘big three’.
However, how can the 3TM do any better?
I was especially privileged to attend their end of season awards evening at Acklam Rugby Club and am pleased to hear that they are, again, up for the challenge this season. After all, a few clubs will be eager to knock them off their pedestal, but even so, it will live in the memory of us all that the 3TM boys went through the whole season unbeaten.
2017-2018 was a great season, on and off the pitch and proved that is not all about the first team. However, this is all consigned to history and it is onwards and upwards into 2018-19.
Into the North Premier League we welcome Vale of Lune and Wilmslow plus local rivals Blaydon and Alnwick. The latter two clubs have provided opposition for the Lions for many years so it will be interesting to see how we compete in the league.
We wholeheartedly welcome all players, officials and supporters of today’s visitors and shall endeavour to make sure that you are treated well, both on and off the field.

SENIOR COACH UPDATE
READY TO GET BACK TO WORK
AFTER A WEEK OFF THE SENIOR SECTION ARE READY TO BACK TO WINNING WAYS.
Enforced lay off last week due to West Hartlepool pulling out of the cup tie. It was a real shame as we were due to see some future stars and some lads who have been knocking on the door for the Lions. The missed week at least gave us a chance to give some lads a week off and rest up for this weekends challenge.
However it turns out we want to be at our fluid best again.
We still have a few knocks and injuries ruling a few out but we have a great strength in depth
at the minute so it’s more opportunities.
The Lions travel to Durham City for the first round of the Cup. We don’t normally play Durham in the league structure so it will be new territory for them. I imagine they may have a sprinkle of students involved so we will need to be at our best.
The 3TM travel to Darlington in the Cup hoping to get back to winning ways after a rare defeat. Both teams will have a bunch of Colts involved so it will be a great chance to see some talent on show.
Good luck to everyone playing today!
Don’t forget our annual Halloween Party night is on the 27th. Get your tickets fast! It’s going to be a great night.
#OSIOS PETER EVANS SENIOR COACH
It’s a tough game this week, not that there are many easy games! Wirral are on form and will be full of confidence after putting a number on a very good Sandal team last
time out in the league. Big and strong across the park it’s normally a tight game between ourselves. Hopefully the weather stays fair for a good running game.

CLUB NEWS
SERVICE BOYS DOING THE CLUB PROUD
A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO A COUPLE OF OUR YOUNG SERVICEMEN MAKING AN IMPACT ON THE U23’S GAME.
Firstly Luke Armstrong (below) who
has contributed to two wins in his first competitive fixtures for the RAF this season.
Playing in a familiar jersey, the utility back has found himself pulling the strings
from fly-half and kicking impressive percentages
in the victories over Gloucester and Cambridge University.
Another impressive start has been made by Will Scott (right and below). Making an impact in the second row against Dorset and Wiltshire u20’s and contributing to a 48-25 win.
Will hopes to progress to the senior Navy XV with the long term goal of eventually representing the Royal Marines.
The club is tremendously proud of these two cracking players
and looks forward to seeing them continue to progress both in rank and in the squads.
Well done lads!

BILLINGHAM WIN FIRST ROUND OF U18s COUNTY CUP
SUNDAY THE 7TH OCTOBER SAW A VERY COMPETITIVE GAME BETWEEN TWO SIDES WHO WERE EAGER TO PROGRESS INTO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE CUP.
DMP had the home advantage and added players to their squad from their U17s team who had their game cancelled.
Billingham started brightly with some big runs from Ryan Walsh and Phil Greenbank. Ben Armstrong who had slotted in at 9 was sniping around the ruck areas which led
to a pop up ball for Harvey Ward to barrel through 3 players to score the first try.
Stern defence from Lewis Simon and
Tom Walker throughout the game meant Billingham gathered momentum and talisman Joe Ross was able to have more of an influence on the game.
A superb individual try from Joe stepping and gliding past opposition from 60 metres galvanised a tiring Billingham team.
Captain for the day Leon was at his bulldozing best at 12 and was able to sneak over for a try. A quick thinking Harry Burnard finished off the game stealing the ball from under the nose of his opposite number to score in the corner.
Unfortunately in what was a highly competitive match the referee saw fit to red card 2 players from Billingham and 1 from DMP which put a dampener on the victory.
The game was ferocious in the contact area with DMP winning the ruck areas continually which led them to go up field and put pressure on the Billingham line.
With a yellow card shown for a cynical infringement Billingham were down to 14 men. DMP quickly capitalized score 2 quick tries in succession.
Further yellow cards for both teams saw the game edge to Billingham. Luke Cooper was at his dancing best skipping through tackles and Max Rafferty making piercing gain line breaks allowing him to scamper over..
This was a huge squad effort, something that we are very proud of especially when faced with all the odds against us.
DMP 17 Billingham 38. #OSIOS

FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT
FOR BILLINGHAM HURRICANES
BILLINGHAM U10s PRE-SEASON RECRUITMENT DRIVE HAS MANAGED TO INCREASE THE TEAM NUMBERS BY 5 WHILST ALSO BRINGING SOME NEW AND EXCITING TALENT TO THE TEAM THIS SEASON.
With no less than 12 players attending every training session and up to 15 players available for match days, things are looking bright for the team’s future.
We as coaches talk about commitment and discipline as probably being the key attributes in any rugby team. The good discipline both on and off the pitch and exceptional commitment shown by all the players, old and new, both at training or in the game are credit to each and every one of them.
The great rugby on display in the recent game at home against Redcar was exciting to watch and the coaches from both
teams spoke about the solid performance demonstrated by every player on the
day. Each player was given equal time
on the pitch to show off their skills to the supporting parents and grandparents who
commented on how well the lads played and how good it was to see such a great team spirit.
We continue to look for new players to join the team. Any U10s child (school year 5) that wants to get involved is very welcome to come down to one of our training sessions; previous experience is not essential. Training is Wednesday evenings 5:15 meet for a
5:30 start - 6:30 finish and Sunday mornings 10:00 meet for a 10:15 start - 11:30 finish. Games are played on some Sundays.
A full list of game dates and locations can be found on the Billingham Rugby Club website.

CLUBHOUSE DEVELOPMENT NEWS
PLANNING PERMISSION HAS BEEN APPROVED AND NOW IT’S FULL STEAM AHEAD ON RAISING FUNDS
The club committed funds for the Chamelecon Gym and we’re pleased to have this amazing attribute to the club now in place. The stand could be the next step and we have had commitments from some club supporters to donate the required sums and we will follow up on this over the coming weeks.
As for the main development we are looking at this from a phasing point of view and we have appointed Anderson Ellis who drew
up the plans to help with the tender process and the project management. However, we have a long way to go until then. This is where everyone can help. We
need £200,000. I am working on some plans to raise half of this, but we need each and everyone of us to start fund raising and donating towards the project.
NORTH WEST ELEVATION
We will be launching the Buy a Brick campaign towards the end of the season, but lets not wait until then. The Senior Tour committee recently sold approx £1,000
of RFU raffle tickets with over £500 being donated to the 24-7 project fund. From small acorns :).
We have 17 teams and if each raised £500 that would be £8,500 and if we could do that every 3 months it would take 3 years. Of course we will be looking for lots of others ways to raise money, but if we want a better, bigger club for all, then we all need to help out and it starts with us.
#OSIOS
So, every time you pull on a shirt, every time you walk in a changing room, every time you watch your team play, ask yourself this...
“what can I do to help us all achieve our dream?”

RUGBY CODES
RFU CODE OF RUGBY
Everyone involved in rugby in England, whether as a player, coach, referee, administrator, parent or spectator is expected to uphold the Core Values of our sport.
TEAMWORK • RESPECT • ENJOYMENT • DISCIPLINE • SPORTSMANSHIP
Play to win - but not at all cost.
Win with dignity, lose with grace.
Observe the Laws and regulations of the game. Respect opponents, referees and all participants. Reject cheating, racism, violence and drugs. Value volunteers and paid officials alike.
Enjoy the game.
CLUB CODE OF RUGBY
The subject of ‘Abuse of Match Officials’ has been raised at County level with a plea to all clubs in the area to
ensure abuse does not take place. Our Hon. Secretary
has signed and returned the ‘code of conduct’ to the RFU on behalf of our club committing Billingham RUFC to this initiative. Abuse is defined in the RFU handbook as;- verbal or physical assault, intimidatory conduct, racial or sexual harassment. The rules state that
a person...
“Shall not abuse, threaten or intimidate a referee, touch judge
or other match official whether on or off the field of play”.
Also
“shall not use crude or abusive language or gestures towards a referee, touch judge or other match officials or spectators”.
The game cannot exist without the commitment and participation of the referee and other officials, I’m sure you all understand how difficult this task is and will endeavour not to make his/her life more difficult than necessary.
I am sure you will join me in ensuring abuse does not take place at Billingham and we create an environment that is pleasant for players, spectators and match officials.

Why do I need income protection insurance?
Unfortunately, with most sports, there’s often a risk
of suffering an injury which could not only stop you playing, but also affect your ability to work and earn for a period of time. Income Protection Insurance pays you a monthly tax-free income until you’re well enough to go back to work.
What use is private medical insurance to me?
Private medical cover helps with unexpected costs,
so you can focus on getting back into the game. It
is designed to cover the cost of private medical treatment for acute conditions like an injury suffered during a game. This could be anything from a few sessions of physiotherapy, to more complex procedures.
