CLUB PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
I’VE NEVER BEEN AS EXCITED AT THE START OF A NEW RUGBY SEASON. NEW AGP AND SUPER FLOODLIGHTS; NEW NAME FOR OUR LEAGUE; NEW COACHING TEAM IN PLACE; MORE ADULT PLAYERS THAN EVER AT PRE-SEASON TRAINING PLUS THE INSIDE OF THE CLUB SPRUCED UP.
WHAT’S NOT TO EXCITE?
We welcome into our league this season, Kirkby Lonsdale, Pocklington and Preston Grasshoppers for the rst time in our recent history and welcome back Harrogate and Birkenhead
Park. Whichever club is hosted this afternoon, I wholeheartedly welcome all your players, of cials and supporters who have travelled all the way to Billingham; we shall make sure that you are treated well, both on and off the eld, whatever the ultimate result.
Billingham RUFC currently turn out three adult teams plus colts in the Senior Section, the Ladies and Girls Section continues to go from strength to strength while the Junior Section has teams from U6 through to U16. Meanwhile the Vets
will be looking for more and more games now that the old boys have
got “the bug” to play once again.
Thanks are in order to a lot of people without whom this club could not function. We do aim to be the leading (amateur) family rugby club in the North
of England, so thanks to all the parents who bring their children to join the Minis, stay on to become coaches, managers and volunteers.
We are lucky to have lots of volunteers but none of this could happen without the leadership
of our hard working Executive Committee.
Again a special word of thanks goes to Club Manager, Nick Dalgleish, for his hard work over the summer months with our sponsors, many
of whom have signed up again for this season. Lastly, a big thanks to all those sponsors, without whom the club wouldn’t be quite the same.
Remember, our motto is... “Our Spirit is our Strength”.
JOHN KER CLUB PRESIDENT

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
WELL I HADN’T EXPECTED TO BE WRITING THIS PROGRAMME NOTE IN THE POSITION WE ARE IN TODAY. WITH ONLY 1 POINT FROM 2 MATCHES AND TWO DEFEATS, IT CAN ONLY BE PUT DOWN AS DISAPPOINTING.
Pre-season was all about intensity and preparation, tinged with excitement and anticipation. We need to make sure that the last minute defeat against Harrogate and bad away day last week, don’t lead to a de ation and desperation. It’s a long season and despite the unexpected start, it’s time to get back into our groove.
I would like to welcome Morley RFC back to Greenwood Road and trust their members and supporters enjoy their day. It’s ironic but Morley are bordering on being our local derby, so lets hope we have a good game, a great atmosphere with lots of mutual respect for the game, the referees and each other.
I will be giving a helping hand to the Lion’s today as their ‘water boy’, but I will be watching over my shoulder to see how we fair.
Last time out, the rst on the new pitch with
the new boards up for the 1st XV, there were times all was drowned out by the banging of the boards by some of our supporters. Whilst on one hand it adds to the atmosphere, on the other hand, the boards are still only up temporarily until the RFU send us the new clips, I would
be grateful, for caution, in case they fall off.
Whilst personally, I think the banging against the boards is unseemly and not in keeping with our values, the positive I can take from it is
that at least it drowns out the voice from those spectators that insist on abusing the of cials.
We have three teams at home again today, the Lions in a similar position to the 1st XV with 0 from 2 and the Colts start their season with their rst match. 3TM are away and looking for 3 Ws out of 3. Finally, as a heads up, Friday 13th is Vets evening, and we will be playing Stockton on the Friday night with a 7pm KO.
I would like to thank all of our sponsors for
their continued support and speci cally the BNI Vision Chapter who are sponsoring the game for their second season. Thank you and I trust you will have a great day.
That’s it from me today but I would like to leave the 1st XV and the Lions with this thought; 2 dots make a line, 3 dots make a trend. It’s time to ensure we are not starting one and let’s bring home the Ws today.
MARK ARMSTRONG CLUB CHAIRMAN

SENIOR COACH UPDATE
IT’S BEEN A BUSY AND TOUGH COUPLE OF WEEKS FOR DIFFERENT REASONS.
First up Harrogate, fantastic game
and performance thoroughly deserved the win only to
be denied in the 92minute. Hard to take but plenty of positives to take from the game.
Lymm away was a day to forget, great start only to sit back and let the game pass us by. One to move on from.
Training this week has been high in numbers, very intense and the lads are up for today’s game with Morley. Close games in years gone by and normally a strong hard running unit, today’s game will have its challenges. Which we will meet head on.
We are looking to get our attacking game back to its best, something that hasn’t quite been displayed for a prolonged periods in weeks gone by. Rest assured the senior squad
have continued the hard work through from pre-season.
Great to see 3 teams at home together, 1st team squad to get off the mark along with the Lions and the exciting group of Colts kicking their season off. The 3TM to also continue their great start to their season too.
Hopefully all bring home the W’s. Enjoy the day.
PETER EVANS SENIOR COACH

U13s LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW SEASON
LAST SEASON THE WARRIORS HAD ONE OF THEIR BEST YEARS YET, WE SWELLED NUMBERS FROM 7 TO 15 REGULARS AND PLAYED SOME AMAZING RUGBY.
We won some and lost some but enjoyed every minute including the extremely muddy day at Darlington. There were a few ‘lasts’ too, our last one as Mini’s, we played host to Musselburgh and had a great day on and off the eld with the team on their last ever tour and played our last Landrover Cup competition at Newcastle Falcons.
Our annual tour was the 4th tour for some and saw 40 big uffy animals travelling to Shipley to play games against Baildon and Bradford Salem. As ever we had the chance to not only
play some rugby against teams
we would never normally compete against, but
more importantly bonded as a team, to strengthen off eld friendships which makes them play as a team on eld so much better.
We are looking forward to the new season, the rst as a ‘Junior’ team with our rst game tomorrow at Consett (where we are all praying the weather will be better then last time we travelled there!
With our new coaching structure we welcome Dan Burns to join Mark Irvine, Nigel Burke and Colin Snowden. We have been working hard over the summer training and learning new rules including how to contest in a 6 man scrum and play on a full size pitch.
We are still looking to increase numbers
and the players are such a brilliant bunch. Whatever level you are at, absolute beginner or experienced, all newcomers are welcome with Billingham Warriors.
We train every Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, please come down or contact me to nd out more. We also either have games or training on a Sunday morning.
As a team we would like to say thank you to Fuji lm for being our sponsor these last 2 seasons and thank you to Stripes Signs for their kind generosity and sponsoring last year’s annual tour and supplying kit.

RUGBY CODES
RFU CODE OF RUGBY
Everyone involved in rugby in England, whether as a player, coach, referee, administrator, parent or spectator is expected to uphold the Core Values of our sport.
TEAMWORK • RESPECT • ENJOYMENT • DISCIPLINE • SPORTSMANSHIP
Play to win - but not at all cost.
Win with dignity, lose with grace.
Observe the Laws and regulations of the game. Respect opponents, referees and all participants. Reject cheating, racism, violence and drugs. Value volunteers and paid of cials alike.
Enjoy the game.
CLUB CODE OF RUGBY
The subject of ‘Abuse of Match Of cials’ has been raised at County level with a plea to all clubs in the area to ensure
abuse does not take place. Our Hon. Secretary has signed and returned the ‘code of conduct’ to the RFU on behalf of our club committing Billingham RUFC to this initiative. Abuse is de ned in the RFU handbook as;- verbal or physical assault, intimidatory conduct, racial or sexual harassment. The rules state that
a person...
“Shall not abuse, threaten or intimidate a referee, touch judge or other match of cial whether on or off the eld of play”.
Also
“shall not use crude or abusive language or gestures towards a referee, touch judge or other match of cials or spectators”.
The game cannot exist without the commitment and participation of the referee and other of cials, I’m sure you all understand how dif cult this task is and will endeavour not to make his/her life more dif cult than necessary.
I am sure you will join me in ensuring abuse does not take place at Billingham and we create an environment that is pleasant for players, spectators and match of cials.
Thank you all, enjoy the game!!

They have back packed alongside parents running the Great North Run to help raise funds.
Fundraising will be an ongoing affair to try and achieve our target.
If you have any friends or family who would like to give rugby a try in fun exciting environment please ask them to contact me, Chris Hyndman, on 07772 922852.
