BILLINGHAM RUGBY CLUB
 ARE PROUD TO SUPPORT...
WE ARE INCREDIBLY PROUD TO HAVE
BEEN GIVEN THE HONOUR OF HOSTING ENGLAND IN THEIR FIRST MATCH OF 2019 AGAINST SCOTLAND THIS AFTERNOON.
I would like to welcome the young men who will pull on the jerseys of their country, the representatives of both unions, the proud families and friends of those young men and of course all of today's spectators.
I appreciate that many of you have travelled from afar and whilst maybe not from as far as Land’s End or John O'Groats but definitely from as far as Somerset or Glasgow. For me, today's match is in many ways symbolic of the long journey Billingham Rugby Club has been on.
By way of background, our origins are a 'works team' and we were the rugby section of the great bastion
of British industry, ICI. At its peak, both ICI and Billingham RUFC were a force to be reckoned but with the demise of ICI in the 90's came a new period for us as nomads. Playing where we could find some posts, basing ourselves in pubs and clubs and borrowing baths from football clubs.

BRUFC WELCOME FROM CHAIRMAN MARK ARMSTRONG
ON BEHALF OF BILLINGHAM RUGBY CLUB I AM DELIGHTED TO WELCOME YOU TO OUR HOME.
20 years on since we opened our new clubhouse thanks to the support of Sport England, the RFU and Stockton Borough Council and a committee and senior membership with a vision we are who
 you see today.
Our goal is to be a professional amateur rugby club. Professional in approach but not by paying players. We seek to live up to the values of our sport and strive to invest in the community and create a platform to produce the best rugby players we can. In recent years we have seen players pull on England U16, U18 and U20 shirts. We have produced players that today play premiership rugby and we have players representing all of the armed services. One day those players will come back and give back to the club and the cycle will go on.
I started out by welcoming everyone to our humble home. I would like to finish by thanking those volunteers of this wonderful club, the club I am immensely proud to be Chairman of, for all of their commitment. We are a family rugby club and many people have contributed directly or indirectly to bringing about today and we have a motto that defines each and every one of us;
'Our Spirit is Our Strength'.
I would like to
specifically thank the
many volunteers that
have worked over
recent weeks in order
to make today
happen. A huge
thanks to all those
that made it possible
but a special thanks
to Dave Hyndman of
Billingham Windows,
Sean Scott of Scott
Patterned Concrete and our Treasurer,

Jill Armstrong for ensuring that our shiny
new stand arrived in time for today’s game!
We welcome you all here today and we hope you truly enjoy your visit and look back on your day as a great experience. I would like to thank the RFU for this opportunity and we hope to do you proud. Now of course, let's not forget why we are here and as I say in all my program notes, let's have a massive W for the home team. Come on England!
Mark Armstrong,
 Chairman

RFU WELCOME FROM PRESIDENT CHRIS KELLY
WELCOME TO BILLINGHAM RUFC’S
GREENWOOD ROAD GROUND
 englaTnOdruWgbAy.TcoCmH ENGLAND U18s TAKE

ON SCOTLAND U18s
THIS IS THE ENGLAND SQUAD’S FOURTH MATCH OF THE SEASON, WHICH KICKED OFF WITH A THREE- GAME INTERNATIONAL SERIES IN SOUTH AFRICA IN AUGUST
CHRIS KELLY
The U18 pathway gives our young players early experience of international sport and sets many off on their rugby journey. Matches like today’s also offer proud moments for parents, families, teachers and coaches and I am very grateful for their support of our young athletes and of our sport.
Today’s England squad are building towards the U18 Six Nations Festival in April which is being hosted by England Rugby at Hartpury College and University.
Led by pathway performance coach Jim Mallinder, this fixture also provides valuable international coaching experience for our three academy coaches: Jonathan Fisher (London Irish), Sean Marsden (Bristol Bears) and Mark Luffman (Darlington Mowden Park)
who all join for the season as part of our coach development programme.
I am delighted that this match is taking place in the north of the country and grateful to everyone at Billingham RUFC for hosting it.
I know that today these young teams will enjoy playing in front of a passionate crowd in County Durham.
Chris Kelly,
 RFU President

ENGLAND U18S VS SCOTLAND U18S PREVIEW
ENGLAND U18s FIRST
 englaFndIrXugbTy.UcomRE OF 2019
TODAY ENGLAND U18s FACE THEIR SCOTLAND COUNTERPARTS IN WHAT WILL BE THE FIRST FIXTURE THIS YEAR FOR JIM MALLINDER’S SIDE.
Players, coaches and management will
also have access to a range of off-field experiences and development
 opportunities in between match
 activity during the 10 days.
England U18s are led by pathway performance coach Mallinder and he is joined by consultant coaches Jonathan Fisher, Mark Luffman and Sean Marsden
 for the season.
“It’s great to be back on home soil for these two fixtures after the summer development tour which was challenging," said Mallinder.
The U18 season began with August’s AON International Series in South Africa in which England played France, Wales and South Africa Schools showing significant improvement throughout the tournament.
For the squad the series also served as a first experience of an international tournament in the southern hemisphere, something that will prove invaluable in their development as they progress through the player pathway.
England will follow today’s fixture with Scotland by taking on France next weekend in Cheshunt (KO 2pm GMT) before April’s U18 Six Nations Festival.
The festival which is participated in by all six unions sees each nation play three fixtures over 10 days.
The teams will be hosted by Hartpury University and Hartpury College, with fixtures across three venues - Gillman’s Ground, Sixways Stadium and Kingsholm Stadium.
England will face Wales on Saturday 13 April, before matches against Ireland (Wednesday 17 April) and France (Sunday, 21 April).
"We took a young
group of players and
had limited time
together prior to the
first fixture and played
a Test match within a few days of landing in South Africa. However, the players did really well and improved as the tour went on and I think these forthcoming games will give us the opportunity to progress further.
“We want to see some progress and for the players to have developed. We are looking to play an exciting, attacking brand of rugby but when we have not got the ball, we need to be organised and enjoy defending.
“Our U18 matches give the players a really good opportunity to perform on the international stage. For some of them it will be the start of their international pathway, a few have already had the opportunity in South Africa, but there will be others that play in March who weren’t involved in the summer so this is a great chance for them to show what they can do at this level.”
JIM MALLINDER

PREVIOUS ENGLAND U18S VS SCOTLAND U18S MATCHES
ENGLAND U18s RENEW THEIR RIVALRY WITH THEIR SCOTLAND COUNTERPARTS
 AT BILLINGHAM RUFC TODAY.

PREVIOUS ENGLAND U18S VS SCOTLAND U18S MATCHES
THE TWO COUNTRIES HAVE MET EACH OTHER FOUR TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO SEASONS AT THIS LEVEL AND WE LOOK BACK AT HOW THIS FIXTURE
HAS PLAYED OUT OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS.
ENGLAND U18s DEFEAT SCOTLAND 31-17

(12 MARCH 2017)
A team that included Tom Hardwick, Cameron Redpath and Joe Heyes helped England defeat Scotland at Preston Grasshoppers RFC.
In tricky conditions, England led 12-7 at the break through tries
from lock Joe Tunney and flanker Aaron Hinkley.
And further scorers from fly-half Hardwick, centre Redpath and
 Tom Seabrook sealed the win
 over Scotland.
ENGLAND U18s DEFEAT SCOTLAND IN INTERNATIONAL SERIES (16 MARCH 2017)
England finished the U18 International Series unbeaten. They secured a seven-try 45-24 victory over Scotland at the Centre for Sporting Excellence, Ystrad Mynach.
England fought back from 14-5 down in the first half with tries from Arron Reed, Joe Heyes and Andy Christie handing the side a 19-14 lead at the break.
Scotland levelled the scores early in the second half however tries from substitutes Sam Grahamslaw, Marcus Street, Cameron Redpath and Oli Morris gave England their third successive win.
ENGLAND U18s DEFEAT SCOTLAND AT MURRAYFIELD STADIUM (19 MARCH, 2018)
England U18s defeated Scotland 64-0 at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium scoring
10 tries in an impressive victory.
The match, which was due to be played at Stirling County RFC, was played behind-closed- doors so that players could get valuable playing time, with the pitch at Bridgehaugh deemed unplayable after heavy snow.
The fixture was England U18s' second of the season having been beaten by France earlier in the month.
England led 26-0 at the break with two tries from Jack Reeves and one each for Harry Barlow and Connor Doherty, while Josh Hodge kicked three conversions.
A second half hat-trick for Alfie Barbeary and tries for Rus Tuima, Blake Boyland, Jacob Morris, as well as four Hodge conversions, sealed victory.
ENGLAND U18s BEATEN BY SCOTLAND AT SIX NATIONS FESTIVAL (31 MARCH, 2018)
England were beaten 32-27 by Scotland in
their opening fixture of the Six Nations Festival
 in Wales.
England led 15-5 at the break through tries
from Alfie Barbeary, Ollie Sleightholme and Reece Dunn with Scotland responding via
 Femi Sofolarin.
A Jack Reeves double, which Dunn converted,
a score for Scotland's Jack Blain and a second from Sofolarin took the score to 27-15.
However, Dan Lancaster converted Robbie McCallum's try and Blain's brace which was
also converted took the score to 29-27. A late Lancaster penalty sealed victory.

RFU CODE OF RUGBY
Everyone involved in rugby in England, whether as a player, coach, referee, administrator, parent or spectator is expected to uphold the Core Values of our sport.
TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT,
 DISCIPLINE & SPORTSMANSHIP
Play to win - but not at all cost.
Win with dignity, lose with grace.
Observe the Laws and regulations of the game. Respect opponents, referees and all participants. Reject cheating, racism, violence and drugs. Value volunteers and paid officials alike.
Enjoy the game.
CLUB CODE OF RUGBY
The subject of ‘Abuse of Match Officials’ has been raised at County level with a plea to all clubs in the area to

ensure abuse does not take place. Our Hon. Secretary

has signed and returned the ‘code of conduct’ to the RFU on behalf of our club committing Billingham RUFC to this initiative. Abuse is defined in the RFU handbook as;- verbal or physical assault, intimidatory conduct, racial or sexual harassment. The rules state that
a person...
“Shall not abuse, threaten or intimidate a referee, touch judge

or other match official whether on or off the field of play”.
Also
“shall not use crude or abusive language or gestures towards a referee, touch judge or other match officials or spectators”.
The game cannot exist without the commitment and participation of the referee and other officials, I’m sure you all understand how difficult this task is and will endeavour not to make his/her life more difficult than necessary.
I am sure you will join me in ensuring abuse does not take place at Billingham and we create an environment that is pleasant for players, spectators and match officials.
