. ANSE BOUDIN

Fine sandy beach bordered by coconut trees. On the coastal road leading to Anse Lazio.

. ANSE CITRON

Pretty, small beach (South coast of the island), lined with coconut and takamaka trees. Ideal for relaxing.

. ANSE CONSOLATION

Small beach with a lot of coral (southern most tip of the island). The scenery has something magical.

. ANSE GEORGETTE

Considered one of the most beautiful beaches of the Seychelles bordered with huge granite boulders.
Access can be gained by boat, by a trail from Anse Lazio which takes about 1 ½ hrs or through the
Lemuria Hotel but permission has to be sought from the hotel.

. ANSE GOUVERNEMENT

Situated at the very end of Cote d’Or beach, it is a lovely little bay with calm and clear crystalline waters.

. ANSE KERLAN AND PETITE ANSE KERLAN

These two beaches are within the grounds of the Lemuria Hotel and offer a nice relaxed setting.

. ANSE LA FARINE

As its name indicates, this beach has powder like fine white sand but is only accessible by boat.

. ANSE LAZIO

At the northern tip of the island, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is bordered
with big Takamaka and coconut trees, and huge granite boulders frame the clear turquoise sea. Ideal
swimming and snorkelling (iIn some periods of the year waves come crashing onto the beach).

. ANSE MARIE-LOUISE

Situated on the South East of Praslin, it offers a panoramic view of the ocean and of Mahe in the distance.

. ANSE MATELOT

A small cove of white sand near Anse Governement, reachable only by boat.

. ANSE PETIT COUR

Granite boulders frame this lovely little white sandy beach with calm turquoise sea. It is accessible only by
boat or through the hotel le Domaine de la Reserve, but permission has to be sought from the hotel.

. ANSE POSSESSION

North coast of Praslin. Named by Capt Marc-Joseph Marion-Dufresne after the king of France (1768)
when the French officially took possession of the islands. It is a lovely bay bordered with takamaka trees,
the sea is calm and shallow and rich in marine life.

. ANSE VOLBERT / CÔTE D’OR

North coast.This 3 km long beach is the main tourist beach of Praslin.The sea is always calm and it is ideal
for a relaxing swim. Hive of activity.Watersports facilities (canoeing, snorkelling, scuba diving).

. GRAND’ANSE

South West ,near the airport. Borders the largest bay of the island.The sea is generally calm and shallow.

Public transports

Discovering Praslin by bus is a unique experience you will remember forever. The local busses (See page
25) are very spacious and sometimes as wide as some of the roads. They can also take you all around the
island on the sinuous roads climbing sharp hills. In less than 1h30 you will have travelled on the longest
way from Montplaisir to Zimbabwe via Consolation. On arrival you will find an extraordinary view of the
ocean and it’s neighbouring islands. Do not hesitate to walk back down to Anse Lazio for a swim, one of
the best beaches of the world.
Please note that buses are only available to the local population in times of pandemic.
Three lines of buses on Praslin are: Route 61 (Montplaisir - Anse Boudin), Route 62 (Montplaisir - Zimba-

waters are part of Curieuse Marine National Park founded in 1979. In the past, the Curieuse Island was
used to isolate leprosy sufferers.Today we can see the ruins of the leprosarium used to host these sufferers.
The Doctor’s House is another historical building that has been converted to a National
Museum. The island is involved in the protection of giant land tortoises and they roam freely at Bay
Laraie.From there, a trail leads through the mangroves and over the hill to the other side of the island to
a magnificent beach called Anse Jose.

LA DIGUE

La Digue (10,1 km2, about 2000 residents) lies 43 km to northeast of Mahe and is a close neighbour
of Praslin (6kms). La Digue’s tallest peak culminates at 333 m. La Digue is the fourth largest island in
Seychelles, just behind Silhouette, but third island after Praslin, in terms of population.
La Digue was first discovered in 1744 by Lazare Picault. Initially named “L’Île Rouge” because of the red
reflections of the granite at sunset it was renamed La Digue, the name of a vessel from the explorer
Marc-Joseph Marion Dufresne’s fleet, sent by the French to explore Seychelles’ granitic islands in
1768.
La Digue is accessible by ferry (20 min. from Praslin, Baie Ste Anne jetty) or helicopter. The most
popular means of transport are cycling, walking and the traditional oxcart which can be booked for
wedding ceremonies as there is only one oxcart remaining on the island. This traditional mode of
transport has regretfully been superseded by lots of club cars of high capacity. There are very few
petrol cars.
The small and unique village of La Passe is the centre of activity on the island. The paved road passing
through it leads to the amazing Grand’Anse beach, the largest sandy beach on the island. From La
Passe you can follow the road that runs along the coast and the clear water beaches till the North
cape of the island.
La Digue offers some of the best landscapes of the Seychelles. Every visitor will forever remember
Anse Source d’Argent with its lagoon, calm and shallow water protected by a coral reef and set in a
spectacular granite boulder garden.
Walking trough the Union Estate is a delight to the eyes: huge granite blocks, coconut grove, old colonial
cemetery, ancient boatyard, colonial house (which was once used as the set for the film Good bye
Emmanuelle), copra factory, spice garden, vanilla plantation and the giant tortoises.
La Digue’s gentle way of living is one of the jewels of the island. The second is the ornithological
reserve, sheltering 2 rare species: soft water turtle (“soupap” in Creole) and the last couples of “black
paradise flycatcher” (‘Veuv’ in Creole). For those who cherish nature you will be overwhelmed by the
exceptional flora (orchids, vanilla, takamaka trees, hibiscus, nepenthes etc.).
A walk up the summit of Nid d’Aigle is a must. You will see spectacular views of the Ocean and the
nearby islands. Snorkelling lovers will find all they need at Anse Sévère. Deep sea diving remains one
of the most popular activities of the island.
The satellite islands of La Digue (Félicité, Marianne, Sisters) are ideal places for boat excursions wherever
you wish. Do not miss Coco, a magic location. These islands are a marvel of nature, both for their
turquoise waters and their underwater wildlife.

DISCOVER LA DIGUE

. ANSE COCO

Go to Grand Anse. The pathway left from the restaurant will lead you parallel to the beach to the
ascent to the hill top on your left. After 5 min ascent, you reach the huge granite boulders of Pointe
Belize and from here you will have an amazing view on Grand Anse.Then, the trail goes down towards
the other side to Petite Anse which you will reach after another 5 minutes of walking. Take the small
path to the left at the beginning of Petite Anse, it will lead you via Pointe Turcy to Anse Coco (20 min
walk). At low tide, continue to follow the trail to reach Anse Caïman, then Anse Fourmis. The footpath
may not be easy and It is approximately 40 min walk to reach Anse Fourmis from Anse Coco. Arriving
at Anse Fourmis, take the small coastal road to join La Passe.

. ANSE MARRON (4h RT, moderate)

A hiking guide is strongly advised. Walk to Source d’Argent, and then get across Anse Pierrot, Anse
aux Cèdres and Anse Bonnet-Carré to reach Anse Marron and having passed Pointe Jacques beaten by
violent waves. This trek will remain unforgettable, passing lots of granite boulders, crystalline creeks,
coconuts forest, takamaka trees, “bonnets carrés” (Creole name), lemongrass, cinnamon trees... Anse
Marron is a natural creek protected from the vagaries of the sea by some wonderful granite boulders.
Making it ideal for swimming.

. COCO ISLAND MARINE PARK (200 SCR / pers., Free for child under 12)

Next to Mariane Island, three splendid uninhabited islands surrounded by a coral reef form one of the
most extraordinary sites of the area. Coco Island is an underwater paradise and surely one of the best
snorkelling spot of the archipelago.

. NID D’AIGLE (alt : 333 m - 3h RT )

This peak, located in the central part of the island is the highest point of La Digue. It gets its name
from rocks at its summit that are in the form of a nest. Although steep, the first part of this trail is not
very difficult as it follows the main road. Belle Vue offers you a break to admire the view of the tropical
forest below leading into the plain and the sea with Praslin on the horizon. The next part of the trail is
steeper but an exceptional view awaits you at the summit (20 minutes walk) where you can discover
all the neighbouring islands: Marianne, Felicite, Ile Coco, Sister Islands, Praslin...

. UNION ESTATE ( National Heritage Site)

hours are 6am to 6pm but visitors who are already there may enjoy the sunset and beach view before
leaving. From 5pm onwards, visitors are being sold tickets valid for the day and following day also.

. VEUVE RESERVE(See page 25 - National Park and Garden Authority, Anse Réunion)

and public holidays. It offers a 40 to 45 minutes walk on a well-maintained path. Entrance fee : 150
SCR /pers. Guided tour on request (+ 50 SCR /pers.). Free under 12 years old. The Special Reserve
was officially opened in 1982 to provide breeding and feeding habitat for the Seychelles Black Paradise
Flycatcher, known locally as “Veuv” in Creole. It is Seychelles most threatened bird species and is listed
as Critically Endangered (World Conservation Union, IUCN). The translocation of 23 adult birds to
Denis Island was conducted in 2008. The first chick successfully fledged on Denis Island in 2009. The
population on Denis Island is slowly increasing, the bulk of the population remain on the island of La
Digue. There are no prospects for any further translocations owing to the lack of suitable islands, and
the resistance of the La Digue community to translocations.

. ANSE BONNET CARRE

At the south west tip of the island, this heavenly little cove is calm and intimate and is only accessible
on foot (white sandy beach, granit voulders, coconut trees).

. ANSE CAIMAN

East coast of the island, isolated, difficult access (via Anse Fourmis), excellent snorkelling spot.

. ANSE COCO

South east side, it is only accessible by trail from Anse Fourmis or Grand Anse – 30mins. The unspoilt
beauty of this beach is really worth the effort, but swimming is dangerous between May and October.

. ANSE FOURMIS

On the East coast, from here and at low tide, you can easily reach Anse Caiman and carry on to Anse Coco.

. ANSE LA REUNION

On the north west coast, this long beach has calm waters and is great for a relaxed swim and
snorkelling.

. ANSE MARRON

This exceptional cove is protected by amazing granite formations but a tour guide is recommended.

. ANSE PATATE

Situated on the north east tip, this beach is perfect for snorkelers and swimmers.

. ANSE PIERROT

A fantastic beach a bit further than Anse Source d’Argent and far less busy.

. ANSE SEVERE

Lovely small paradise which is not very busy. The sea always calm and access is very easy, ideal for a
gentle swim and Snorkelling.

. ANSE SONGE

On the south coast. A small wild beach located about 15 minutes walk fom Grand Anse. Swimming
inadvisable but the site and the walk to reach it are are a real delight for the eyes.

. ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT

On the south west coast of the island, this beach with its unique landscape makes it one of the most
photographed beaches in the world.

. ANSE UNION

You will find this beach behind the boatyard (Union estate), the sea is always calm and swimming
