IF I AM KING

I often wish I am a king,
And then I can do anything.
I dream,
That my kingdom is very nice.
If I am a king of Ayodhya,
Then I will become the king like lord Rama.
If I am a king of Mithila,
Then I will become king like Janaka.
If I am a king of anything,
Then i will tell the world “I am a king”
I often wish I am a king
And then I can do anything.

THE GOLDEN BOOK

Once in an island there lived a greedy king who wanted heaps of gold. So, he started mining but he was not
happy with the gold he received. So, he decided to take control over many countries for gold. The news spread
and many countries started fighting against him but there was a country where the people thought of making
a wall. When they were making the wall, a saint came there and the people welcomed him. The next day when
the saint went out, a boy went to his room. The boy was shocked. In the saint’s room he saw many golden
books, pens and an ink making machine. When the saint came back, he saw the boy. He realized that the boy
liked reading, writing and he was most interested in ink making machine. The boy saw the saint and got scared
but the saint said that “if you want to read then you can, but you cannot write”. When the boy asked why he
said “there is no ink but I can make ink with a special kind of berry but if you bring it from the forest then I can
make ink. If you see a three eyed snake, try to take its 3rd eye which is made of crystal. The next day he went
to the forest but mid-way he was surrounded by hyenas. Suddenly, a wolf came and saved him. But the boy
got scared when he saw that the wolf turned into a girl. The girl introduced herself said that she became a
wolf because of a three eyed snake. He asked the girl to take him to its burrow. After a while they saw the
snake which killed the girl instantly. The boy became angry. He killed the snake and took its third eye. On his
way back, he saw the ink berries and he took lots of them. He went straight to the saint’s room and gave him
the berries and the crystal eye. The saint became happy and appreciated him and, in a hurry, he started making
ink. When the ink was ready, the boy took the crystal eye and filled the books with his drawings using the it.
After some days the greedy king came to the island. He broke the wall and killed many people. Some people
hid themselves. They searched the kingdom but they didn’t get any gold. They went to the saint’s room where
the saint and boy were hiding. Suddenly the boy told the saint to make ink. They escaped by hiding under the
smoke that come out while making ink. They both went to the forest through the broken wall but they didn’t
know that they were being chased by the king. Suddenly the king surrounded them and started checking them
for gold. After some time they got the golden book. The king took the book and killed the saint. When they
were about to kill the boy, the white wolf came there, saved the boy again and ran away. He started chasing
the wolf but after a while it disappeared. From that time the boy started living in the forest like a saint. One
day when he was travelling, he saw his home. He became happy and he came to know that his father was
killed. He didn’t cry because for him his father was a good person and fought for the people. He decided to
stay there and educate the children and the people of the village. He shared the wisdom he acquired from the
saint and he lived there happily.

STORY-Thinking Out of the Box

Once upon a time, a merchant named Sam owed a huge sum of money to Tom, a money lender. The time
came when the merchant ran out of the last chance given to him to give the money back.Sam had a
beautiful daughter who was very affectionate with her father. Tom asked the merchant to give all the
money back failing which he will marry his beautiful daughter.
Tom was not at all good looking and ill minded and so the merchant was in dilemma. Tom proposed a
new condition. There was a mix of black and white pebbles on the ground where they were standing. He
will take two pebbles on both hands; one will be white and the other will be black.

If the daughter correctly chooses the white pebble, then Tom will write off all the debt and leave the
marriage proposal too. But if she chooses the black pebble, he will write off the debt but will marry the
daughter. Tom bent down to pick the pebbles from the ground and the daughter noticed that he took
black pebbles on both hands. The girl had three choices- to notify the same to her father which may
provoke Tom, take the black pebble and sacrifice her life or simply refuse to take the pebble which might
land her father into trouble. But what she did totally surprise Tom.

She took the pebble from his hand and ‘accidentally’ the pebble fell off from her hand to ground. She then
asked Tom to see which color pebble was left in his hand to identify the color she picked. Tom had no other
choice but to show the black color pebble in his hand and set both of them free.

Moral: Sometimes, life offers you situations which not only demands hard work and perseverance
but some creative thinking which saves the situation.

I WISH, I WERE

I wish I were a flower, that which dried off never To give the fragrance and colour to your hands that
savoured
To be a twinkle in your eye that never faded by, or every breath you took, or your confidence that
never shook
I wish I were rain, that fell gently on your mane That dried up all your tears and washed away all your
fears.
To be every ray of sun, with which your everyday had begun To be your every laugh or sigh, I wish I

I wish I were a smile, on your lips forever, while

My Country, My Pride

My Country, My Pride
We are always by your side.

For a better future,
We need to change our nature.
Our Country’s leaders instructed us to wear a mask,
Oh! Come on! It’s not such a difficult task.
Our Corona Warriors put their lives at stake,

Just for our sake
Many of them laid down their lives,
Leaving behind their sobbing children and wives.

Oh! They are great,
All should have their portrait.
All we need to do is to take some precautions,
Till we get the vaccine for inoculations.
For our country successful,

We need to be careful.
My Country, My Pride, We are always by your side,

We are always by your side.

MY FIRST EXPOSURE TO ARMY LIFE

This article is all about experiences and good things I learnt from the day one I joined the National Cadet
Corps. It was an honor for me to join the National Cadet Corps, as I am very eager to join Indian Army and
become an Army Office like my father. The National Cadet Corps always keeps me motivated and drives me
towards my goal of life.

My journey towards army life was started when I was just a student of 8th standard. I joined 13 MP Bn, NCC
in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pachmarhi in 2017 as Junior Division Cadet. I can’t forget the first day of my Drill. Really,
it was a very strenuous day. There were only 10 cadets. On the first day of our joining, we were initially made
to run 10 rounds of the football ground just to give us a trailer of Army life. Immediately, after completing 10
rounds without any rest or water break, we were taken over by the Drill Instructor of 13 MP Bn NCC - a very
strict JCO with 6 feet height and big mustaches from JAT Regt. Our drill training started and within about one
and half hours we all got depressed and forced to re-think about our aim to join the Army. Perhaps this was
the motive of a drill instructor or trick to figure out real soldiers amongst us. Finally, the day was over and I
reached home. Anyhow I kept my school bag, shoes and tiffin a side and without changing uniform fell on my
bed. Very soon I fell asleep without having lunch. That day I had my lunch at 5 PM in the evening. But this day
motivated me a lot and after getting up in the evening I again went for 10 rounds of football ground. Since
then, I included this in my daily routine. Now I understand that nothing can be achieved without continuous
hard work. The first day of NCC training gave me an overview of Army life which my father had faced during
Army service.
After one year of rigorous training the moment came for which, I was waiting - my first NCC Camp. The
Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-1) was organized in Pachmarhi only during our School Summer
Vacations. Approximately 3000 cadets from all the wings from different Directorates of MP State joined the
Camp. All the 10 cadets from our School were selected for the camp and I was assigned the responsibility of
Senior of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pachmarhi troops.

It was the first day of our camp. Around 9 AM we all, reached the camp site. First time we were away from
our parents. Camp location was not far away from our homes but it was totally covered with the cadet guards
and not one was even allowed to go outside the campus boundary. Camp location was the place where I got
full exposure to Army life. Like others, we were also allotted one big room to live in with the cadets of the
other three schools. Around 30 cadets were in one room. Immediately after entering the room, we were
divided in small groups and handed over brooms for cleaning the in and outside the living area. We all worked
together and gave our 100%. Everyone was working like a trained sweeper. This was the time when I realized
the power of Unity in Diversity. After cleaning the area, we were called to take delicious Lunch. Everyone was
in a hurry with his plates and bowls to stand first in line for taking Lunch. First time we had a variety of tasty
vegetables and Dal which looked like soup. The Chapattis were so nutritious that we never had at our home.

Next day our daily routine started. We were forced to wake up at 4.30 AM in the morning to get ready for the
PT Parade due to the large strength of cadets and limited toilets/bathrooms. During PT Parade we were made
to run around 2-3 KM daily by the same strict JCO with a cane in his hand to make sure every one of us is
running at the same pace.

After PT Parade everyone was in a race to take bath first and be ready for the next parade i.e., Drill Practice.
The breakfast used to be very tasty and healthy to me as I was not allowed to eat Eggs and Omelets at my
home. After breakfast we were called for the Drill Practice by the same 6 feet tall drill instructor. Due to my
physique, I used to make silly mistakes in the drill and get punishments every day. But our drill instructor was
very kind to me. After giving punishments he used to say that “Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work
hard”. Those words lightened up the fire in me. I started practicing drill during free time after Lunch and
Dinner and finally made it on the fourth day of the camp when our Drill Instructor appreciated me and said
that “Hard work is only the key to success”. Now I have become a more disciplined cadet and started
enjoying Drill Practice.

Now it was the time of my favorite activity of the Camp - SHOOTING. From the day one of joining NCC, I was
very eager to go for shooting and the Camp gave me the opportunity. We used to go to the shooting range
in 2.5 ton of Army
inside the AEC Training College & Centre, Pachmarhi. We were taught all the drills of handling weapons,
laying down for firing, aiming targets and finally fired the target in a very disciplined manner. We were told
the main motto of firing “Ek Goli – Ek Dushman”. I always enjoyed firing being my favorite activity.

The area just besides our Camp location used to be a weekly vegetable market where vendors from
nearby villages come to sell their vegetables. One day suddenly heavy rain started and all the people started
running for a shelter to protect themselves from the rain. That time it was our game parade. We all cadets
were playing games. The moment we saw the vendors helpless I along with a few other cadets ran to help
them in protecting their stuff from rain. Meanwhile, our camp Instructor called all the cadets who went to
the vegetable market without their permission. We all were scared and expecting a tough punishment. But
the moment our instructor appreciated us we all took a sigh of relief and started looking towards each other
and felt very happy. Suddenly our camp Commanding Officer arrived at the place and applauded the ones
who helped the vendors and said “You all cadets have not done any mistake; you all have followed one of
the main aim of NCC – SELFLESS SERVICE”. Since now I started enjoying Camp activities. How all the 10 days
passed I didn’t realize. Now it was time to leave the camp and say goodbye to everyone.

Before leaving, all the cadets gathered in the drill ground and sang NCC song and left for their homes.
After completing my two years of NCC and attaining `A’ Certificate, I got transferred to 39 KAR Bn NCC in
Kendriya Vidyalaya MEG & Centre, Bangalore, (Karnataka) in 2020 due to transfer of my father from
Pachmarhi to Bangalore.

Here in Kendriya Vidyalaya, MEG & Centre, Bangalore I enrolled in the Senior Division NCC of 39 KAR
Bn NCC and learned personality development from our Associate NCC Officer. Due to COVID-19 pandemic
we started our NCC training online. We were taught general knowledge and basics of NCC like organizational
structure, attending Senior Division NCC Camps etc. According to me our ANO wants to develop the qualities
of a gentleman in each cadet to make our dreams come true and a bright future. Our online training is still
going on.

At last, I would like to conclude that the good habits and experience of life I am getting through NCC is very
helpful to me. Now I am sure that by the time I will complete my NCC training and get `C’ Certificate, I will be

having all the qualities of an Army Officer in me and will achieve aim of my life of becoming Army Officer like

my father.

Re-strengthening The Mind Post-Pandemic

"A strong mind always hopes and has always cause to hope.” - Thomas Carlyle
In isolation, we are now facing a lot of uncertainty. We have stayed in lockdown for around 13 months
now. While the initial hope of the disease fizzling out within a few months has been lost now, we are
growing more concerned about the future, post-Pandemic.

This Pandemic has pushed the stigma around mental health aside. We have recognized the importance of
mental health. We have been forced to pay attention to our Mind. Our thoughts reflect in our actions. Our
actions affect our surroundings. Thus, Our Mind makes US. A strong body with a weak mind will inevitably
be weak. Therefore, keeping our mind strong is as important as staying physically fit.

To keep our mind strong, we must pay attention to our thoughts, how do we think, are we pessimistic or
optimistic, do we have doubts about ourselves and many such questions need to be asked to truly
understand our thinking. We need to focus on our thoughts and understand how they affect us and our
surroundings. A person with a strong mind will radiate confidence and the people around them will become
more hopeful. What better way is there to live than to bring hope to others and ourselves. For this, we need
to strengthen ourmind. To do so, as I have already mentioned, we must focus on our thoughts. Understand
why we have certain thoughts and how we can control them. To be able to control our mind is a power in
itself. We must harness this power.

Next, we must focus on our surroundings. It might be hard to hope when we are surrounded by
uncertainty. But we should focus on the positive things in life. We must be grateful for all that we have.
Gratitude reflects in kindness and self-esteem which will make us cheerful and our mind balanced.

Our mind is taking in a lot during the pandemic which is why it is important to Re-strengthen our mind post-
Pandemic. Post-Pandemic, first of all, we all need to look back at how far we would’ve come. We would've
survived a global pandemic. This would make us feel confident and hopeful for the future. Now, we should
concern ourselves with the present. Our goals for the future and steps we will be taking to achieve them
should be our mind's top priority. We should immerse ourselves in our academic life, educating ourselves
and keeping our mind open to new concepts and ideas. An open mind will help us evolve into better people.

To keep our mind strong, we must never lose hope because we are always greater than what we suffer. To
be strong in the face of adversity, hopeful when there is no reason to hope and kind when there is no reason
to be kind, that is what the world needs and what we ourselves need. I conclude thus, “The cheerful mind
perseveres and the strong mind hews its way through a thousand difficulties.” -Swami Vivekananda.

Find hope in yourself. Be Kind. Be Grateful. Find Balance.

THE KITE RUNNER

Khaled Hosseini’s first and famous novel ‘The Kite Runner’ is an interesting piece of fiction which carries
around the tragic history of Afghanistan and its people wrapped in multiple layers of human emotions.

The story has numerous full-fledged characters who live throughout gracefully, yet the leads Amir
and Haasan, stand apart. This is not a children’s book on friendship, but certainly a handbook on human
nature. It involves realism as a key element, which otherwise remains unsaid. Human cowardice, jealousy,
possessiveness, anger, guilt, repentance, and silence bring it closer to the real realm. The success of the story
is that all the minor characters are not shallow. They have a pivotal role, with adequate details and
independent storylines. ‘Farid’ is one such example, I adore.

The story intertwines complicated relationships with unsung, real and natural feelings. The father-
son relationship stays in focus, with hidden expectations, secrets and respect from both parties. The complex
relationship between Amir and Haasan is worth reading. It explains how some things change with time and
some don’t, changes for good; challenges with change.

The gripping plot adorned with unexpected twists is sure to keep readers engaged. The timeline of
the story is not too ancient, presence of few modern amenities keeps the flow relatable. It brings to light the
ethnic differences and discriminations between Pashtuns and Hazaras, while educating us about the Afghan
cultures.

Time and again, the story proved maverick with its instances. Choosing business to law, or writing to
business, sending to school, or mother having books. Few atheistic talks, few steps out of culture seem
impossible at such a period. It shows us how world ideas entered their invisible-in-the-map country, and
influenced its people.

A moving tale with sensitive issues, which may require quite a mental maturity to understand and
feel heavy. The brilliant use of astounding allusions takes it a level higher. Symbols such as pomegranate,
sling, lamb, snake and Jesus adds layers of depth. Scattered use of similes and metaphors is like sweet incense
in a garden bed. Dark humour and internal conflicts are extremely admirable. The long prose has poetry
crushed in pieces. Extensive use of medical terms and conditions give an interesting touch.

The timeline of the story stretches a long span, it crosses generations. Although I could read the book
in two days, I felt at least three decades old thereafter. For it leaves back wisdom and emotions to cherish.
The differences stood out. The ones arising from age gaps, the ones of the age they lived, and the ones in
them made all the difference.

I personally loved; the nuances of conversations, simple yet elegant the making of supporting cast,
the clarity in dialogues, and the usage of native tongues. It feels stretchy at times, with multiple repetition
and reminiscences even during major events which act as unintended detours. Yet the majesty and aptness
of the title is clearly unarguable.

I recommend this wonderfully woven novel to avid and aspiring readers alike because; it has lucid
simple language, gives a sense of awareness, takes to a new world with the subtle use of Afghan words, and
controversies it faced. It has crystals of love, thriller, suspense and action embedded in a golden drama ring.
‘Tashakor’ readers.
