CEFR-Aligned
LISTENING 1 As candidates must have known by now, Malaysia’s English Language
Education System has been aligned to the Common European
Framework of Reference or widely known with its acronym CEFR
since 2017. This is in part due to the aim to give our English Language
curriculum, teaching materials and assessment set according to
international standards.
2 As such, starting from 2021, MUET has also been aligned to CEFR
giving it an international standing. As this is the MUET CEFR-
aligned paper, candidates must also know and have some knowledge
of what the CEFR level entails.
3 Descriptors for listening skills as according to CEFR is explained
in Table 2. For tertiary level, to be able to communicate rather
effectively, candidates should be above B1 level. Levels of difficulties
range from A2 to C1 in the MUET Listening Test. This means words
used are ranging from basic to proficient levels.

Speaking. This paper is divided into two sections. The first part is an
individual 2 minutes presentation and the second part involves an
8 – 12 minutes discussion revolving around a mind map.
2 Both questions will be related to a similar theme but the questions
for both parts will be slightly different. This encourages students to
discuss a wider scope of issues before coming to a conclusion.

First and foremost, I believe that we should prioritise

and responsibilities based on their best abilities. Therefore, when
we have a responsible leader, all the tasks will be lighter because a
responsible person will outline a strategy to complete the task well.
Moving on to my next point, a leader who is responsible cares
for the well-being of all members of the group. After all, we are only
as strong as our weakest link. This means that a good leader will
assess the members and it is his responsibility to identify those who
need more help and make sure all bases are covered. For instance,
before a responsible leader assigns responsibilities to each member,
he or she should first assess which member is more suitable for
which task such as making the introverts the researchers while the
extroverts could be the presenters because these responsibilities suit
them better. All in all, a good leader with high responsibility will
take into account all of these factors before making decisions.
Finally, when we are responsible leaders, it is easier to make
decisions because we want the best for everyone. Take for example
a group of students who are interested in design and arts. A
responsible leader will make sure that they select projects related
to this area of interest rather than choose a topic that is completely
unrelated to their group’s strengths. Ultimately, a good leader will
make the most responsible decision for the group.
In short, these are the reasons why we must consider
responsibility of a person the most important quality in achieving
success as a future leader.
