Assalamualaikum and Salam Sejahtera Digital convergence may have begun as integrating different devices together, to create multimodal use. This three decades old spectacle is revolutionising industries and evolving human behaviours and we expect to see more incredible outcomes emerging. Digital convergence will continue to shape society, technology and the media for the next millennium. Warren Buffett, the Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, has said that “Digital transformation is a fundamental reality for businesses today”. This symposium serves as medium for postgraduate students to demonstrate their digital aptness in matching stakeholders needs whilst also meeting the industry landscape. Their endeavours, I believe, are in par with aspirations from the Industry Revolution 4.0 and Education 5.0. After all, today’s digital transformations made possible with digital convergence, are also fashioned for the best interest of the generation of tomorrow without undermining the economic needs of the present. The symposium may be young, but its spirit thunderous, exemplified from over 60 students’ products. Areas as heterogenous as metaverse web, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, blockchain technology and fintech are some of the key technology topics students will be presenting. Students also explored how the Covid19 pandemic has affected mental wellbeing as well as business and economic landscape by employing various analytical algorithm design. Issues pertinent to Sustainable Development Goals are also raised to create discourse on a more strategic endeavour. As such, the symposium products reflect the vision of digital convergence, opening more rooms of exploration and potential. Moreover, the involvement of the industry in the symposium could strategically support the institution in identifying breakthrough ideas, and set in motion the potential for commercialization and partnership with our talents. I would like to express our appreciation to all the authors for their effort and contributions to the symposium. I would also like to thank Dr Rozianawaty Osman and Assoc. Prof. Dr Shuzlina Abdul-Rahman, General Chairs in making the symposium a reality. Haryani Haron, Professor Dr Assistant Vice Chancellor Foreword Program Director PROF. TS. DR HARYANI HARON PNC 02
Foreword Program Chair DR ROZIANAWATY OSMAN Welcome to the 2nd Postgraduate Research Symposium (PEERS’23) for the School of Computing Sciences, College of Computing, Informatics and Media (KPPIM), Universiti Teknologi MARA! The biannual student symposium is an avenue for our postgraduate students, particularly from the Computing Sciences Masters Coursework programmes to showcase their research work with the broader college community. Academics and fellow students, whether from undergraduate or postgraduate programs are able to witness noteworthy research exploration pursued by the stellar students today at KPPIM. This year features 65 students comprising 7 different programs. Diverse research area that posits questions on strategic technology realisation; the capabilities of technology infrastructure to facilitate user experience and wellbeing; as well as the reliability and accuracy of digital analytics (and many more), provides a landscape to our students’ ability to recognize that any progress is a double-edged sword. Digital landscape today presents wide opportunity that needs to be harness but also hides an imperfection that needs to be acknowledged. Congratulations to the students and supervisors in capturing our attention by bringing forth these teething problems. Part of KPPIM’s endeavour in recognizing students’ talents is to create a medium of discourse. Hence, the involvement of the industry in today’s symposium presents a leverage for students to understand the capability of their own research exploration. Serving as the esteemed panel of juries, it is strongly believed that the industry partners can give a richer lens of commercialization viability of the products today. Their critical and constructive insight would put credence to the students’ endeavours. I humbly appreciate the generous sharing by our industry partners today. I look forward to the discourse today as we draw meaning collectively and venture into a concerted effort to utilise technology as a form of empowerment and sustainability. I have high hopes that the symposium today will leave a mark as a historical day where we celebrate intellectual, exhilarating and creative inklings. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the organizing committee for all your contributions in making the symposium a success. Rozianawaty Osman, Dr General Chair PEERS’23 College of Computing, Informatics and Media Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia 03
Keynote Speaker LILYANA ABDUL LATIFF CEO & Cofounder, BETA Foundation CEO, Jooblii Commerce sdn bhd Digital Convergence: How Tech Skills Will Change by 2030 As technology advances and evolves, the skills of a tech specialist need to keep pace in order to remain competitive in the job market. By 2030, the top skills a tech specialist will need to know will include a deep understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, software engineering, data science, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. On top of that, a tech specialist need to be abreast of how digital convergence is changing the way traditional industries operate and how their skills can help industries to adapt to a highly technology driven world. The talk will introduce the megatrends caused by digital convergence - that are currently affecting industries such as telco, property development and construction, banking, media and others. These convergence are causing major shifts in business models and talent management. Those in the tech and digital industry should be aware of these huge waves in the industry landscape and understand how to adapt in order to “ride the waves” and not be swallowed by the changes. The presenter will also introduce a tech skills framework of the future. So, by 2030, tech specialists need to be well-versed in digital convergence in order to remain relevant and competitive in the industry. From staying up to date with the latest technology to understanding digital security, AI and data engineering, and cloud computing , tech specialists need to develop a wide variety of skills in order to remain significant and ahead of the curve 04
