The story must have the title : FRIENDSHIP Your story should include : A description of how a friend helped you during a difficult time Values you learned from the friendship SAMPLE ANSWER (1) Once upon a time, I had a dear friend named Emily. We had been friends for several years and had shared countless memories together. Emily was always the life of the party, making everyone around her laugh and feel at ease. However, when I hit a rough patch in my life, Emily's true character shone through. I was going through a difficult breakup, and I felt like I was drowning in my own sorrow. I was too ashamed to tell anyone about my struggles, but Emily could sense that something was wrong. She showed up at my door one evening with a basket of my favorite snacks and a listening ear. I broke down in tears, and she sat with me for hours, letting me vent and cry as much as I needed to. Over the next few weeks, Emily became my rock. She would call me every day to check in, take me out for coffee, and send me funny memes to make me smile. Even when I was feeling my worst, she never gave up on me. She was patient, kind, and always there to lend a helping hand. Through her unwavering support, I learned the true value of friendship. I realized that a friend is someone who will always have your back, no matter what. They're the people who will sit with you in the dark and hold your hand until the sun comes up. They're the ones who will never judge you, even when you're at your lowest point. Emily taught me the importance of being vulnerable with those you love. It's okay to ask for help, and it's okay to show your true emotions. It's through our struggles that we can connect with others on a deeper level and create meaningful relationships. Thanks to Emily's friendship, I was able to pull myself out of the darkness and start living again. I will always be grateful for her love, support, and unwavering friendship. 2 TRIAL JOHOR 2021 Your teacher has asked you to write a story for an international writing competition. The story must have the title : FRIENDSHIP Your story should include : A description of how a friend helped you during a difficult time Values you learned from the friendship SAMPLE ANSWER (2) Once, I had a dear friend named Rachel. Rachel and I had been close for several years, and we shared a lot of happy memories together. However, one day, I received some terrible news that turned my world upside down. My father had suddenly passed away, and I was completely devastated. I had never felt such intense grief before, and I didn't know how I was going to cope. Thankfully, Rachel was there for me during my darkest moments. She came to my house as soon as she heard the news, and she spent the entire day with me, holding my hand and listening to me as I cried. She didn't try to offer any advice or comment; she simply sat with me and allowed me to express my pain. Her presence was a great comfort to me, and I knew that I could rely on her to support me through the difficult days ahead. In the weeks and months that followed, Rachel continued to be a rock for me. She called me regularly to check how I was feeling, and she always made time to see me in person when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Her kindness and support helped me to slowly start to heal, and I felt grateful to have her in my life. From this friendship, I learned the importance of being there for someone in their time of need.

3 Rachel showed me that true friendship means being a source of strength and comfort for the people you care about, even when you don't know exactly what to say or do. She taught me that sometimes the most valuable gift you can give someone is your time and your presence, and that listening and offering a kind word can make all the difference in someone's life. I also learned that it's important to be vulnerable with the people you trust. Rachel showed me that it's okay to open up and share your pain, even when it feels overwhelming or embarrassing. In doing so, you allow the people who care about you to help carry the burden, and you can find solace in their support. Devastated : very shocked and upset intense grief : great sadness cope : overcome vulnerable : fragile/ weak

4 TRIAL SMKTBI, JOHOR 2022 Your teacher has asked you to write a story for an essay writing competition. The story must have the title : THE DAY I LOST MY TEMPER Your story should include : The incident that made you angry What did you do to justify yourself SAMPLE ANSWER (1) It was 9 pm on Sunday night, and I was doing my homework while listening to my Spotify playlist on my earpod. I was feeling stressed from having to finish a lot of homework and the washing machine was equally testing my patience as it did not spin my clothes properly. Suddenly, my little brother, Alfie burst into my room and asked me to play with him. “I need to finish my homework. Go play with Mimie,” I said, not even looking at him. He continued bothering me by tugging at my pajama and said ‘I wanna play with you. Please. Please. Please” That was the moment I lost my temper. I was already stressed with my homework and everything just did not seem to go my way today and suddenly I just had this little human making a scene while I was trying to focus on my work. Without even realizing it, I started shouting at Alfie to get out. He was shocked at my sudden outburst but I was too angry to even care. He started crying and ran outside but I could not be bothered to think about him right now. I finally finished my homework at 12 am and went to sleep. The next day, when I got home, I saw Alfie sitting in front of the TV, watching his favourite cartoon, Spongebob. I went over to him and asked if he wanted to watch MechaMoto with me later. He did not answer. Instead, he ran to his room and locked it. I suddenly remembered that I shouted at him last night. I felt really terrible for losing my temper at him when he was just asking me to play with him.

5 I decided to apologize to Alfie and make up with him. I went to Alfie’s room and I was relieved that it was not locked anymore so I entered. He was playing with his cards. I sat next to him and apologized about what happened the night before and told him I felt really sorry that I shouted at him. He looked at me with teary eyes and asked if I would shout again at him like last night. I quickly assured him I would not and he hugged me. “Okay, please don’t shout like last night again. It’s scary.” I felt so relieved that he accepted my apology but at the same time, I was upset at myself for not being able to control my anger. What happened with Alfie taught me a priceless lesson ; if you don’t keep your emotion in check, it will result in bad consequences. Afterwards, I learn to be more conscious of myself and especially when I’m stressed so I would never lose my temper again.

6 TRIAL SMKTBI, JOHOR 2022 Your teacher has asked you to write a story for an essay writing competition. The story must have the title : THE DAY I LOST MY TEMPER Your story should include : The incident that made you angry What did you do to justify yourself SAMPLE ANSWER (2) It was a sunny afternoon, and I was walking home from school with my best friend, Lily. We were talking about our weekend plans when a group of boys on bikes came speeding down the street. One of them nearly hit us, and I shouted at them to be more careful. Instead of apologizing, they started laughing and making fun of us. That was the moment I lost my temper. I felt a surge of anger and frustration, and I shouted back at them, using bad words I shouldn't have. My friend tried to calm me down, but I was too upset. The boys kept mocking us, and I was about to do something foolish, but Lily advised me not to, and I knew she was right. We left the scene and Lily suggested we go get some ice cream to calm down, and we did. Later that evening, I felt bad about losing my temper, and I decided to apologize to Lily. She understood that I was upset and told me not to worry about it. She reminded me that sometimes it's okay to get angry, but we have to learn how to control our emotions and express them in a healthy way. In conclusion, that day taught me a valuable lesson: sometimes, it's easy to lose control, but it's essential to find a way to calm down and handle the situation in a mature way.

There was a smell..” Your story should include : a suitable title What was the smell How this incident had impacted you and others. SAMPLE ANSWER The moment I stepped into the room, I knew something was off. There was a smell - a sickeningly sweet smell that lingered in the air. I wrinkled my nose, trying to identify it, but it was like nothing I had ever smelled before. I followed the smell, and it led me to the bedroom. My heart pounded in my chest as I pushed the door open, and what I saw made me stop on my track. There, lying on the bed, was my friend, Maria. Her skin was pale, and she was barely breathing. The sickeningly sweet smell was coming from a bottle of candies lying on her bed. I called for an ambulance, and they rushed Maria to the hospital. She had a terrible allergic reaction to an ingredient from the candies that she had consumed. I had known Maria since I was 7 and I had learnt for a long time that Maria had allergies on quite a number of things which would be too many if I were to list here. So she had always been careful of what she took. However, the incident really took me by surprise. It turned out that the candies that caused her allergic reaction was a gift she received during her birthday party two days earlier and she had forgotten to check for any ingredient she was allergic to before eating them. As a result, she immediately had shortness of breath. Luckily, I was quick to discover her. Maria was hospitalized for two days and continued to recover at home. She thanked me for saving her life. For me, the incident was a stark reminder of how quickly life can change and how acting quick can save a life.
