I am very much grateful to witness this school relive back to create more memorable memories. This Student Handbook is an informational resource for the programs and policies we have planned at Sri Bestari Private School. Traditionally, new and existing policies are reviewed, revised, or amended annually as we prepare for the new Handbook to be published. We would like to thank you in advance for partnering with the SBPSKL administrative team. We encourage you to assist us as we challenge our students academically while hoping they take advantage of our many available programmes, athletics and co-curricular opportunities. 8 COMMUNICATIONS STUDENT INFORMATION All form one and new students need to fill up the Student’s Profile form. These information are needed for us to key in the data in our system and into the APDM (Aplikasi Pangkalan Data Murid) required by the Ministry of Education. The information may also be useful for other school purposes. CHANGES IN STUDENT INFORMATION Should your information changes, please inform the school immediately. CONTACTING YOUR CHILD If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call the school’s office at 03-62758304. Students are not permitted to use their hand phones during school hours. E-MAIL E-mail is one of the most cost effective, timely and efficient way for the teachers and school administration to communicate with the parents. All the information that are related to school like events and examinations will be notified to parents through e-mail by the class teacher. If you do not receive any emails by the first month of January 2020, please let us know immediately. 11 MERIT & DEMERIT SYSTEM Discipline Department is to promote a more positive and productive atmosphere here at Sri Bestari Private School (Secondary) while teaching students to achieve academic excellence. This plan is built on student self-reflection of behaviors that can either promote or inhibit their academic success. Through reflection of these behaviors, students can begin to choose positive behaviors more often, increasing the academic success of all students. Hence, we implement Merit & Demerit System in our school. Classroom based only. Each student will be given 100 points at the beginning of one academic year. Positive Behaviour: Merit Negative Behaviour: Demerit SUBJECT TEACHER 1. Advice for the 1st & 2nd time of offence. 2. Warn if the offence repeats for the 3rd time. 3. Record the offence if repeats for the 4th time and more and also give demerit points. 4. Inform class teacher about the case. CLASS TEACHER 1. 16 STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES MOBILE PHONES 1) Students need to fill up the Mobile Phone Policy & Agreement and submit the complete form to Discipline Department. 2) Students surrender their mobile phones to Class Teacher or Assistant Class Teacher every morning during homeroom time (7.40 a.m. – 7.50 a.m.). 3) Class teacher or Assistant Class Teacher will keep the mobile phones in a box and to be kept in Discipline Department. Only teachers can carry the box with mobile phones. 4) Late comers (after 8.00 a.m.) have to surrender their mobile phones to Discipline Department upon arrival. 5) Last subject teacher will return the mobile phones to the students during dismissal time. On Wednesday, Class teacher or Assistant Class Teacher will return the mobile phones to their respective students. Only teachers can take and carry the box with mobile phones. 6) If any students are found with mobile phones during school hours (fail to surrender), the mobile phones will be confiscated and can only be claimed on the last day of the term.

21 GUIDELINES: Uniforms should not be too loose or too tight. Plain black leather shoes & black plain socks (above ankle). Sweater (black colour only with zip or button) can only be worn with permission from Discipline Department. Caps or hats are not allowed during school hours. Complete e-card should be worn all the time except PE lesson at the field. Students must wear neat and clean uniform. Belt must be plain black without any excessive design and buckle. Long sleeve shirt (prefects, librarians and Muslim girls)must be buttoned all the time. Girls’ skirt (long skirt) must be at least below the knee. Long skirt (prefects, librarians and Muslim girls). PE attire: Sports house t-shirt, black or dark track bottom and sports shoes. Tights, leggings or shorts can only be worn while doing sports activities. Tights, leggings or shorts are not allowed to be worn in classroom. Any religious symbol can be worn with only black string which long enough to be covered by the shirt. Students are not allowed to wear any accessories except a watch and a pair of earrings for girls (bottom of ear lobe). Boys are not allowed to wear any earrings or accessories. Students are not allowed to put on any make-ups. Hair style: 1) Boys: short and neat. The side should not reach the ears, back does not touch the collar and front does not cover the forehead. No colorings and punk, skinhead style. 2) Girls: Girls with long hair (touch shoulder) should tie the hair neatly with black or white ribbons or hair clips. Any kinds of tattoo is not allowed. Short and clean finger nails at all time. Smartwatch (Apple Watch, Huawei Watch etc) is not allowed.

28 SAFETY AND SECURITY EMERGENCIES AND FIRE DRILL During emergency procedures or evacuation, students, teachers, staff and visitors are required to follow all emergency directions given by school. The following are the procedures for the fire drill. FIRE DRILL INSTRUCTIONS Long non-stop siren or bell indicates a fire or an emergency If there is no electricity supply, the bell will be rung manually to indicate a fire/emergency Students have to line up and leave their classrooms, the library or any other place as soon as possible according to the fire drill plan Teacher in classrooms will take charge to cam, assemble and take the students down to the field with the monitoring books Students are advised to be calm and not to shout or scream Students have to leave their bags and other belongings in the class before they march to the field Teachers are to ensure that all the switches for lights, air conditioners, fans, computers and gas pipes are switched off before leaving the classroom, laboratories, office, staffrooms and other rooms Teacher in the staffroom, are to bring along all the class registers before the adjourn to the field Teachers and students are to use the correct staircase as shown in the plan Teachers have to keep an eye on the students all the time during the fire drill session Teachers and students are to assemble accordingly to their stipulated places Class teachers have to take attendance of students in the field and report any missing students immediately Upon receiving the all-clear signal, students can then go back to their respective classrooms CAR STICKERS Parents will be given a free car sticker when they register their child. The guard will only allow cars with School’s Sticker to enter the school at any times. Second and subsequent car stickers can be purchased from the account’s office. VISITORS Parents are considered visitors during the school day. As a safety measure, everyone must enter and exit through the main doors during the school hours. All visitors are required to report to the guard house and will be given a visitor pass to wear during the school day. For security reasons, all visitors and parents are not allowed to go into classrooms at any time. Please proceed to the school office, where your enquiry will be dealt with.


29 PICKING UP CHILD/WARD EARLIER Parents / guardians are to see any Head of Departments in the main office. You are required to fill up some details in the Early Dismissal Log Book. A permission slip will be prepared and your child/ward will be called to the office. You are to pass the permission slip to the guard on duty before exiting. Please take note that you are only allowed to bring home your own child/ward. Parents/guardians who send drivers or other relatives to pick up their child/ward must bring a letter as proof of consent. LOST AND FOUND 1) Students are advised to bring enough money for the day only. 2) Parents are advised to notify the class teacher/school in case your child bring along a large amount of money with them for examples to pay for the school fess or trip fees. 3) Students are advised to bring their valuables like wallet with them at all times especially during break and lunch. 4) The school will attend to all complaints lodged by students due to lost of valuables but the school is not liable to refund any losts.


30 HEALTH HEALTH CONDITIONS AND ALLERGIES The school will work closely with parents whose children have an acute or chronic health need such as asthma, diabetes, allergies or any other illness. Parents need to notify the school about their child’s specific health needs or allergies in the Student’s Profile form. The student and parents will work with the school to determine how best to manage the health conditions and plan for any potential emergency situations. ILLNESS AND INJURY If the child is ill at home, please inform the school through the office or the class teacher to report the reason for absence. When a student becomes ill or is injured at school, first aid and illness management will be provided by the school and parents/guardian will be contacted as soon as possible. It is important that the names and phone numbers listed in the Student’s Profile are current and updated. In case of serious injury, the school will refer the students to the nearest clinic or hospital with the permission from the parents/guardian. INSURANCE All students are covered under the Group Student Personal Accident (PA). In case of injuries or accidents in school or during competition representing school, students can claim for the insurance, provided full settlement of the fees for the current semester has been made. RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES Written doctor’s approval are required for students who need to be excused from physical education activities, sports practices or any sports events. The letter needs to mention the period of restriction to take effect.

38 About Us: The Counselling Psychology & Personal Development Center offers a variety of services aimed at helping students and staff resolve personal difficulties and acquire the skills, attitudes, and knowledge that will enable them to take full advantage of their experiences at Sri Bestari Private School. The primary goal of counselling is to help students develop their potential and selfawareness and skills necessary to overcome problems and to grow and develop in ways that will allow them to take advantage of the educational opportunities at SBPS. The concept used in the guidance and counselling by the unit is the DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH. All services are free, confidential and available to students and staff in the campus. Services include counselling for individual and groups; consultation to students, the faculty, staff and parents; assistance with referrals to community resources; and crisis intervention. FAQ: How to meet the counsellor? Visit the Counsellor to get an appointment date and time or walk-in anytime (during school hours) should you have urgent matters to discuss. Who should see a counsellor? Anyone could see the counsellor, for any reason. Where is the Counselling & Personal Development Unit located? The CPDU is located near the school canteen, next to the printing room ([Opposite the multi-level parking) I don’t have problems; why should I see the counsellor? You don’t need to wait until a problem arises to see the counsellor, seeing the counsellor for assistance doesn’t mean that you have problems, it can be just to seek opinions/ other perspectives. 43 EXAMINATIONS INTERNAL EXAM POLICY UPDATE We would like to update you on our Exam policy which takes effect this year to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of the exam system. Kindly take your time to read, understand and to give us the needed support for the benefit of our young charges. This would also be a great help to prepare them for public examinations. During all exams, candidates (1) Need to be in Full School Uniform – with e-card and (Identification Card (I.C) – only during SPM Trial examinations and SPM examinations) or they will not be allowed to sit for the paper. (2) Need to bring all stationery needed including calculator, Mathematical tools etc. The school will not provide any kind of stationery and borrowing them during exam is not allowed. (3) Water bottle, sweater, pencil case, calculator cover are not allowed to be brought into the exam room. (4) Liquid papers / correction tapes are forbidden items during exam. (5) Must be in school according to normal school hours. Early dismissal or late entry could lead to severe penalty i.e zero mark for the subject. No extra time given for late comers. (6) Cheating such as copying is a serious offence in all exams sitting. If found guilty, your child/ward would be given severe penalty i.e zero mark for the subject and a warning letter. (7) Do plan ahead your holidays / external programs as students will not be given transcript for their exams sitting, earlier or later than the schedule stated in the planner. (8) On Wednesdays, when there are co-curricular activities, students are to wear their full school uniform when they sit for exams and change later for co-curricular activities. (9) We can never run away from traffic congestions so please make sure students come early to school to avoid any inconvenience.


44 CLASS PROMOTION * Form 1 Promotion to form one will be based on placement test results with no first or last class. Form 2 and Form 3 Promotion to Form 2 and 3 will be based on 40% of Mid-year Examination and 60% of Year End Examination for the existing students and placement test/last exam results for new comers. There is no first or last class. Form 4 Promotion to Form 4 will be based on PBD reports and placement test results for the new students. However, the school will provide necessary assistance to help students make their final decision on the option of class. *subject to change
