ABSTRACT In an economic sector, there are three types of organizations which are public organizations, government-linked companies, and private companies which also applied to the economic organisations in Malaysia. Government bodies that offer critical services to the public, such as healthcare, education, transportation, and social services, are known as public organisations. They are concerned with increasing residents' welfare and well-being. Government-linked corporations (GLCs) are commercial firms that are significantly owned or controlled by the government. They are active in industries like as banking, energy, telecommunications, and infrastructure. GLCs are public entities with public mandates that connect their strategy with national objectives. Individuals or organisations own and manage private companies, which are self-contained company. They want to generate money and work in fields such as manufacturing, retail, technology, and entertainment. Private companies place a premium on shareholder value and addressing customer wants. They are not directly responsible to the government and have greater discretion in making decisions. These organisations share departments, especially information technology department. This e-book will compare the contrasts and similarities between the information systems departments of these three industries in Malaysia. INTRODUCTION What does information Technology mean? Information technology (IT) refers to the utilization of computers, storage, networking, and other physical devices, infrastructure, and processes to create, process, store, secure, and exchange electronic data in various forms. IT is primarily employed within the realm of business operations, distinguishing it from technologies used for personal or entertainment purposes. The commercial application of IT encompasses both computer technology and telecommunications. The term "information technology" was coined by the Harvard Business Review to differentiate purpose-built machines with limited functions from general-purpose computing machines that could be programmed for diverse tasks. Over time, the IT industry has seen advancements in computing power, coupled with reduced costs and energy consumption of devices, forming an ongoing cycle that persists today with the emergence of new technologies. Importance of Information Technology Information technology plays a crucial role in developing and expanding the business and commerce sector, leading to increased productivity. With the advancements in information technology, the time required for various sectors to generate business has significantly reduced. It provides electronic security, efficient communication, and reliable data storage. To carry out its functions, information technology relies on computer applications. Computers act as a bridge, connecting IT systems to organizations worldwide. This enables employees to maintain records of numerous clients from different companies efficiently. It also facilitates online communication between patients and physicians, allowing individuals to seek medical advice remotely. Furthermore, information technology aids in the proper management of patient records, ensuring their accuracy and accessibility. 01
CHAPTER I ORGANIZATIONS OVERVIEW 02 1. GOVERNMENT COMPANIES MINISTRY OF HEALTH (MOH) Malaysian health care history began in 1880 with the creation of Taiping Hospital, now known as Yeng Wah Hospital. This prompted the establishment of the Institute of Medical Research (IMR) in 1900. More divisions and a biological lab were formed in the health sector in 1928. Around the 1880s, Sarawak and Sabah began to provide health services. Following Malaysia's independence in 1957, the Malaysian government prioritised improving the socioeconomic conditions of the rural people. There were 65 hospitals under the Ministry of Health during the time. The ministry was formerly known as the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, but in 1963 it was renamed the Ministry of Health Malaysia. The Ministry of Health strives to provide equitable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare, promoting excellent health and productivity. They encourage individuals to prioritize and take responsibility for their own well-being. The ministry delivers customerfocused, fair, efficient, and technologically advanced healthcare services, while emphasizing compassion, professionalism, cooperation, human dignity, and community participation. Malaysia's communications and multimedia business expanded fast in the mid-1990s. Malaysia implemented a convergence regulation mechanism in November 1998 to adapt. The Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998 established licencing requirements, while the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act of 1998 established the regulating agency MCMC. Ten national policy goals were allocated to MCMC, including developing Malaysia as a global centre, promoting information-based services, guaranteeing consumer trust, offering inexpensive services, cultivating an applications environment, and ensuring information security. The regulatory framework of the MCMC addresses economics, technology, consumer protection, and social issues. The objective of the organisation is a competitive, efficient, and self-regulating communications and multimedia business that meets Malaysia's economic and social demands also includes increasing access to services, customer choice, fair competition, effective resource allocation, and industry collaboration.
