THE RAIN WAS gone and the skies
were blue on Sunday October 10th, for the
residents of Elam Drive “Neighborhood
Street Party.” The last party street party/
BBQ was in 2019.

Elam Drive has had an explosion of
growth since 2020, and this was the first
opportunity for old and new neighbors to
meet and socialize. The event was attended
by 60 Elam Drive neighbors.

Coordinators of the event were Katie
Thompson, Debby Dill, Cynthi Webster
and Diane Caccia.

Hamburgers and Hot Dogs were cooked
by our grill masters Mike Dill, Greg
Thompson and Howie Caccia. Pam Harley
decorated the tables with beautiful fall
themed centerpieces.

Guests brought their best dishes to share
and the food was wonderful.

December marks an end and beginning for the SLV MGA

by TOM KNOWLSON

IN NOVEMBER THE SLV MGA board stopped, started a new and will continue Overall White Tee Low Gross White Tee Low Net Champion
for 2022 with new, energetic members. Champion Greg Walker

A new SLV MGA Board of Directors was elected on November 11th at the end David Herzog
of the year dinner. The new MGA, BOD will continue with new members and new
ideas to improve and increase membership in this great group. We congratulate the
outgoing board for getting us through Covid and some unusual times during the past
two years. Both 9 and 18hole members attended the traditional end of the season
Prime Rib Dinner, which was delayed due to weather.

November also marks the end of the regular season for the SLV MGA and the
beginning of the “OFF” season. The difference being that membership in the MGA
is not required to play in the “OFF” season.

It’s time to congratulate David Herzog and Greg Walker, the 2021 SLV MGA
Champions. The championship event was a two day, individually flighted tournament,
held on both the Monticello and Tara Golf Courses. This year we had a wonderful
response which enabled us to have 5 Flights due to the increased participation.

There was a second white tee flight separated from the 1st by each player’s handicap, and two flights " It ’s time to
for the member tees. The Winners of those flights were: congratulate
David Herzog
2nd White Tee Flight Winner 1st Member Tee Flight Winner 2nd Member Tee Flight winner
Don Smallwood Brad Ziegler Tom Ruffner and
Greg Walker,

the 2021
SLV MGA
Champions."

There was also a Forward Tee Winner,
Bob Purdy. We have one additional 9 Hole
Match Play Champion, David Markle, to
congratulate this month. Dave is a tough match
play competitor, having won both the white tee
and team match play championships last year. He
played in the final matches of both tournaments,
this year narrowly failing to repeat. You go Dave!
As you can see, there are as many different
winners to celebrate as there are flights and
opportunities to compete in MGA Events.•

The Wonder of Christmas GOOD SHEPHERD
BENEVOLENT
by REV. KINSLER

THE WONDER OF Christmas is expressed in the refrain of the traditional at the
Christmas carol, “We Three Kings.” DORN MILL

O Star of wonder, star of night FESTIVAL OF TREES
Star with royal beauty bright McCormick, SC
Westward leading, still proceeding FRIDAY, DEC. 3th
Guide us to thy Perfect Light
The second Chapter of Matthew tells us about the Star of Bethlehem. The staris 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM
only one of the many sources of wonder in the biblical accounts of the birth
of Jesus.Questions abound about the star. How was it formed? How long did it SATURDAY, DEC. 4th
last? Why does it seem the Magi were the only ones to see the marvelous celestial
sight? From the few references in scripture, there is much speculation, but little clarity, 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM
so we are left wondering.
The wonder is multiplied as we consider who are these mysterious “Magi?” The THE BENEVOLENT
song describes them as kings, but in reality, a better description would be mystics, BAKERS from Good
magicians, or astrologers. What motivated them to wonder across vast stretches of Shepherd Catholic Church
countryside not knowing where the star would lead them as they searched for the would like to thank all of the
“King of the Jews?” people who visited the Festival
The account in the second chapter of Luke adds to the wonder about the birth of Trees on Dec. 3 and 4, and
Jesus. It tells of Joseph traveling with his pregnant wife, Mary to Bethlehem. Joseph stopped by to purchase some
had to wonder where he could find a place for his wife to rest for the night and of our delicious goodies,

like? We try to picture in our mind, was it a stable, stall, or cave? Was it warm, damp, thank all the local merchants
or dusty? How could the Son of God be born in such a humble setting? who let us display our posters
Talk about wonder, how do you think the shepherds reacted? Out of the darkness advertising the bake sale and
of night and the quiet of the pasture, “There suddenly an angel of the Lord stood everyone who participated.
before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them. The angel declared, ‘Do The proceeds go to various
not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all projects/charities in and
people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is around McCormick. It is

heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth caring community.
peace among men with whom He is please.’” (Luke 2:9-11, 13-14) Thank you all.
Through out the centuries and across every continent people have tried to capture
the awe, wonder, majesty, and mystery of the birth of Jesus Christ through nativity
scenes. It has been my privilege as I visit in the homes of members of the Lutheran
Church By The Lake to see many different nativities. Some are simple, some are
ornate. The variety is astounding, depicting the holy family from ethnic background
imaginable and every pigment possible.
This Christmas season the Lutheran Church By The Lake invites you to experience
the wonder of the birth of the Savior through a display of nativity scenes from
around the world, but more importantly by opening your heart to the wonder of
God’s love through Jesus Christ.•

att Dove has been practicing law since 1996. Raised in Calhoun Falls, he and his wife Christy
recently moved back to the area, and he is practicing law full time in McCormick.
Matt devotes a substantial portion of his practice to Estate Planning, including the drafting of
Trusts, Wills, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Directives.

Ccloomseptloetheocmaree.,
We are local surgeons who live and practice full-time in the Lakelands community. We care for all our
patients here at the region’s largest referral hospital. You and your family members don’t need to
travel out of town. As your hometown orthopedist, we are proud to serve you and your physician when

s  urgery is needed.

High-quality and safe care for our patients is our highest priority at Self Regional. In addition, you have

a  ccess to a wide array of specialists, normally only available in much larger, metropolitan areas.

Our surgeons are board certified and several have received fellowship training in a subspecialty area;

a  nd, together, we are able to offer both general services and the extra skill associated with a specialist.

Our subspecialties include:

• Minimally invasive surgery

• Arthroscopic surgery

(microscopic joint surgery)

• Hand, foot and shoulder surgery

• Sports medicine

 • Total joint replacement

When your physician recommends

an orthopedic specialist, Orthopaedic

Associates of the Lakelands is local

healthcare worth asking for. Nonereefdeerdra. l
