Prologue

Question: Summarize how the month of August is described.
My Answer: The author describes August as motionless and hot
and compares it to a ferris wheel.

My Answer: People during this month do things that they are
sure to be sorry for after.

Chapters 1 and 2

Chapter 1 Question: Explain why no one ever goes into the woods.
My Answer: People don’t go into the woods there was no road
through it and it was owned by the Fosters.

My Answer: Tuck’s dream is the whole family is in heaven and

Summarize
Chapters 1-8

In chapters 1-8 of Tuck Everlasting, it describes how Winnie Foster meets the Tucks.
● Winnie lives in an overprotective house in the village of Treegap with her
parents and grandmother.Their house is on the edge of the woods they own
but never go into.
● The Tucks are getting excited to see their sons whom they have not seen in ten
years. Mae is heading off to meet them, but they say that she has to be careful
not to be seen. She does not look in the mirror before she goes because it
says she has looked the same for the past 87 years. Mae takes along her
music box as she goes off to meet her sons.
● Winnie has a conversation with a toad. She talks about how hard her life is and
she decides to run away.
● That night Winnie heads out to her yard and meets a stranger walking by who
asks her about the woods and the people she knows in the area. He tells her
that he is looking for a family. Winnie’s grandmother comes out to tell Winnie to
go inside. Just then some music is heard in the woods. The grandmother says
it is the elf music she hasn’t heard in years. Winnie thinks it sounds like a
music box and the stranger is very interested in it.
● The next morning Winnie decided to run away into the woods, and finds Jesse
Tuck drinking water from a spring. And she wants to drink and he says no.
Then, Mae Tuck and Miles Tuck appear, and they kidnap her so she couldn’t
drink the water. They explain that the water makes you immortal and thats what
happened to them. And they decide to take her home with them, on the way,
Miles brings out the music box, and Winnie realizes that the music from the
woods was not elves but Miles’s music box. But, while they were explaining
and using the music box, the stranger was watching them the entire time.

My Answer:As soon as they got home they jumped into a pond.

My Answer: in order for Winnie to go home she has to not tell

My Answer: Winnie does not want to die.

My Answer: The stranger revealed to the Fosters where Winnie was.

My Answer: Jesse’s proposition to Winnie is that when she turns 17 she should drink the

water and marry Jesse and they could travel the world.

Fosters and then drink the water.

Chapters 9-17

● Winnie arrives at the Tucks house and meets Tuck.

Chapters 18-25

● The family was having breakfast and the stranger knocked on
the door and asked to come in.

● The stranger came into the house and started talking about
selling the water and the Tucks told him he was out of his
mind and the stranger tried to take Winnie with him and Mae
shot the stranger and then the constable shows up

● And the constable told the Tucks to keep the stranger and
took Winnie and Mae with him and takes Winnie home and
Mae to the jailhouse

● The next day Winnie is outside and meets Jesse. Jesse Tells
Winnie the plan to set Mae free and Winnie decides to help
and they agreed to meet at midnight. And before Jesse
leaves he give a bottle of water from the spring and tells her
to drink the water when she is seventeen

● At midnight Winnie swaps places with Mae in the jail and the
Tucks leave Treegap

● The constable doesn't find out until morning and can’t do
anything to Winnie because she is a kid and Winnie goes
home. While Winnie is in her garden she pours the water
from Jesse on the toad to save it from a dog
