3 WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HOMECOMING? Shady Grove Baptist Church will observe its 159th Church Homecoming on Sunday, November 45h. Our Church Theme for this year is “Turn Back To God” 2 Chronicles 7:14. The Homecoming Ministry has planned a blessed time in the Lord. The day will begin with Sunday School at 9:30 am. At 10:45 am, the choir will usher us into the presence of the Lord with Praise and Worship Service. Dr. Joel Gregory of Waco, Texas will bring our message. The day will end with a Homecoming fellowship dinner immediately following worship service. All members and guests are encouraged to pick up a dinner. Pastor Woullard and the Homecoming Ministry are urging all members, active and inactive, former members and friends of Shady Grove to be a part of the day’s celebration. Shady Grove is located at 101 Warren Mott Parkway. For more information see Donnicka Hayes, email [email protected] or visit the church website at www.shadygrove-church.org. Those needing transportation should call the church office at 601-583-9243. It is a time when a person who has chosen to leave the home church for personal reasons, spiritual or relocation gets a chance to come back to the home place where they first accepted Christ. At this time they get a chance to become reacquainted with the foundation that they received the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and also if the Pastor who baptized them is still present. They have a chance to visit with him and see some old faces that they may not have seen in some time. They also have a chance to fellowship with old friends and get to perhaps feel that relationship that drew them to Christ in the beginning. It is also a time that they get to visit and see if any changes have been brought upon the church or what has been going on in the areas if one has relocated out of state. For this particular reason some individuals may meet some new friends of the church and see how the church has changed and the Pastor can see the growth of the individual in the faith as well over the years. Many members take this time to reflect on the personal relationship and how it has changed since their birth of finding Christ. They look forward to seeing the different individuals come home and see their progress and how they enjoy Praising God in their own way. 4 Pastor R.W. Sr. & Mrs. Narah Woullard 1917 - 1957 Pastor R.W. Jr. & Mrs. Annette Woullard 1969 - 2005 Pastor Reginald & Mrs. Joyce Woullard 2005 - Present After Shady Grove broke ties with Providence Church in 1864 the following Pastors preceded Rev. R.W. Woullard Sr.: Rev. I.B. Travis, Rev. R.W. Jones, Rev. Luke McInnis, and Rev. J.J. Jordan. Unfortunately, we only have written records of these men of God and their desire to bring the Word of God to those living in the Kelly Settlement community. HOMECOMING ~ IN MEMORY AND HONOR OF OUR PASTORS!

5 Mrs. Moselle Tate, the First Lady of Homecoming, offered the following message regarding Homecoming! “As we approach the celebration of another milestone in the life of the Shady Grove Baptist Church, we have much that is positive to celebrate.” We do not just celebrate the passage of time; we celebrate a way of life, spiritual sensitivity that transcends the negative and accents the positive. First, we celebrate the reality of the Church’s ownership- “Upon this rock I will build my church.” The Church still belongs to the Lord. Next, we celebrate the reality of those who were here before we arrived. We stand on their shoulders, walk in their tracks, and feast from a table that was set before them. “We have a lofty heritage.” Last, we celebrate the tranquility of our fellowship. All is not perfect, all is not exactly what we would want, but there are those who work and pray for the harmony and peace of our church on a daily basis. Mrs. Tate passed the Homecoming mantle to Mrs. Kathy Eaton. She tirelessly served the Homecoming Ministry of Shady Grove. She was very generous and gracious with her time and made sure that each Homecoming and Harvest Festival was a great time of Christian worship and fellowship. As we continue to build on our past, let us always remember and be mindful of our members who set the bar high as they worked and served the Lord in excellence—those pictured and those in our mind’s eye! HOMECOMING ~ REMEMBERING OUR HISTORY! CELEBRATING THOSE WHO PAVED THE WAY!

15 THE ANGEL NUMBER 159: WHAT DOES IT MEAN? 159 is the numerical representation of the angel number. Angel number 159 may represent a portent of good things to come. Three numbers combine to make up the number 159’s spiritual significance: 1, 5, and 9. The number 1 has a vibration often associated with new beginnings and starting all over once more. The ambition, assertiveness, and confidence you’ll gain from this influence will help you rise to any challenge. It’s no coincidence that the number 5 has a vibration associated with growth and personal transformation. This could be anything from relocating to a new house or apartment to starting a new job or romantic relationship to an exciting trip. Situations that are likely to end well are represented by the vibrational energy of the number 9. Since 1864 we have been praising God and lifting up the name of Jesus. You may ask why do we set aside a day each year to celebrate Homecoming? One, we owe it to our forefathers to remember the sacrifice they made when they broke from Providence Baptist Church. Two, we owe it to our children and their children to not only pass our history to them but also to add to the church’s history. ANGEL NUMBER 159: MEANING AND SYMBOLISM

19 What can I say about 159 years, longevity for one thing. The Church of Shady Grove has stood the test of time. The breaking away in 1864 was a good thing and a new thing God did for this body of Christ. Yes, there has been some shaking, some disappointments, things that the body of Christ did not understand, but they stood through it all, from the beginning to the middle and now in the year 2023. Oh, if the walls and the foundation could talk, I know they would have a lot of stories to tell, as well as the people whose bodies are buried in the church cemetery. What testimonies we would hear. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus said to Peter, “And I say also unto thee that thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against.” Just stand still Shady Grove the blessings and favor of God will continue to mount up in Jesus’ Name. I believe Shady Grove has stood on that solid rock and therefore stood the test of time. Now let us look at the number 159: Number one meaning God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit. Number five meaning the number of Grace. His grace to withstand the fiery darts of the enemies that tried to come against the body of Christ. And the number nine, of Divine completeness or conveys the meaning of finality. Thank you Father God for 159 years, it has not always been easy, but the church, this sanctuary is yet standing and increasing in numbers, faithfulness, and success in Jesus’ Name. Congratulations, job well done! Father God thank You for what You are doing at Shady Grove Baptist Church. I ask You to continue to bless us as we continue the road of longevity for You in Jesus’ Name! Amen! And it is so. Humbly submitted by: Rev. 20 WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T VOTE? Election Day is not far away, but the 2023 election is already happening right now. Many ballots have been cast so far, but even though Americans are voting early many still feel like their votes don't matter. Without strong voter turnout, the balance of power in your state could literally be decided by one (1) vote. That was the deciding number in Jackson, MS. Here in Hattiesburg a race was won by seven (7) votes. Voters under 30 aren’t requesting or returning ballots as much as other key groups. If you’re feeling drained and can’t see how your one vote matters in all this, remember if you want change you have to let your vote be your voice. This election will lead to policies and decisions that affect thousands—if not millions—of people. Be proactive, get out to vote and take your family and friends with you! WHAT RACES ARE ON THE BALLOT AND WHO’S RUNNING? View a sample ballot for local, congressional and state district races on the Secretary of State’s website. Contact your circuit clerk’s office for a sample ballot specific to your area. Be an informed voter! Find more information: https://states.aarp.org/mississippi/ election-voting-guide WHEN ARE POLLS OPEN? Tuesday, November 7. Polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm. As long as you are in line by 7 pm, you will be able to vote! The theme for Veterans Day 2023 is “Service.” Veterans are proud of their military service in defending our Nation. Honor reflects the military value and tradition of answering the call to duty. There is distinct honor in serving to protect our way of life and the Constitution of the United States of America. We encourage artists to consider Veteran history of service to our Nation and the honor we owe them for fulfilling patriotic duties. The City of Hattiesburg celebrates Veterans Day each year on November 10 and 11 through a series of activities coordinated and presented by the Hattiesburg Veterans Committee. These include a 24-hour vigil beginning on November 10 and ending right before the Ceremony on November 11. It also includes a Veterans Day Parade that is presented by the Magnolia Chapter of the Armed Forces Top Enlisted Association. 22 5 BEST THANKSGIVING PRAYERS TO READ ON THE HOLIDAY Though the November holiday is a great excuse to sit down with friends and family for a delicious Thanksgiving meal (and perhaps watch a game of football), Thanksgiving is more so a holiday of reflection. A day to acknowledge all of the many blessings in one’s life — great friends, supportive family members, bountiful food, and all of the other seemingly ordinary things that make life so special. A great way to say thanks for these gifts is with a Thanksgiving prayer, said before or after your meal, or any time throughout the day. Read one or more of these Thanksgiving blessings in private or aloud to the people you love. Many of these messages giving thanks to God come from Bible verses and Psalms, while others are from prolific poets and authors. Read through their inspirational words, and repeat them line by line. Or use them as guidance in your own unique prayer of thanksgiving. Either way, it’s important to express gratitude for what you have and what is yet to come beyond Thanksgiving Day. 1. Traditional Christian Blessing for Thanksgiving “Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.” — Grace Before Meals 2. Thanksgiving Prayer from the Bible “Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with celebration! Come before him with shouts of joy! Know that the Lord is God — he made us; we belong to him. We are his people, the sheep of his own pasture. Enter his gates with thanks; enter his courtyards with praise! Thank him! Bless his name! Because the Lord is good, his loyal love lasts forever; his faithfulness lasts generation after generation.” — Psalm 100:1-5 3. Thanking God for Our Many Blessings “Loving Lord, As I express my gratitude to you in prayer, may it be a pleasing, joyful sound to you. Thank you, Lord, for your love. It brings me acceptance and significance. Thank you, Lord, for your truth. It brings me guidance and direction. Thank you, Lord, for your mercy. It brings me help and comfort. Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness. It brings me stability and strength. Thank you, Lord, for your beauty displayed in the earth. It brings me joy and delight. Thank you, Lord, for your way of redemption — the cross. It brings me salvation and regeneration.” — Beth McLendon 4. Prayer of Thanksgiving “Heavenly Father, I am so grateful today. My heart overflows with gratitude. For eyes that see, for ears that hear, for fingers that grasp, for knees that bend, for lungs that breathe. I am so thankful for my family, my home, my Savior. Today, I ask for nothing and thank you for all things. In Jesus’ name! Amen.” — Sharon Jaynes 5. Prayer for Thanksgiving Morning “Thank the Almighty, for all that He gave in life, for the food that you eat, for the people you greet, for the love in the heart, for that wonderful start. Thank the Lord for everything, because it is Thanksgiving Day!” — Author Unknown Find more prayers at: https://www.womansday.com/life
