2022 CHURCH THEME: “HOLD ON, HELP IS ON THE WAY!” MATTHEW 15:25 101 WARREN MOTT PARKWAY * HATTIESBURG, MS 39401 * 601-583-9243 EMAIL: [email protected] WEBSITE: WWW.SHADYGROVE-CHURCH.ORG September 2023 Volume 4 Edition 9 EXTRA GRACE REQUIRED REV. DR. REGINALD WOULLARD, PASTOR SHADY GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH 2023 CHURCH THEME: “TURN BACK TO GOD” 2 CHRONICLES 7:14 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” – Matthew 5:43-45 In ministry, we have a phrase we use when we have to deal with difficult people. It’s called extra grace required, so we call these people who are harder to love: EGRs. Sometimes we encounter EGRs at work. These are the people who steal our staplers, log onto our computers, or who gossip about us. Then there are EGR bosses. The ones who don’t promote us, won’t give us raises, who threaten to fire us or who play favorites while taking credit for the work we do. If we don’t work in a traditional capacity, we might encounter EGRs in our church, community, or in another organization. Oftentimes they are leaders, who, for no apparent reason, are unfair, rude or seem like they are out to get us! Friend, the good news is that God gives us a solution for dealing with EGRs — we love them! You probably learned this basic principle in your early Christian education. There is no truer hallmark of a disciple of Jesus Christ than a willingness to love your enemies. Just as the Apostle Paul said, “If I speak in the tongues of angels but do not have love, I’m a resounding gong or clanging cymbal.” This is because without attitudes and actions of love, all your words about your faith in Jesus are meaningless noise. When you live in close and connected fellowship to the Lord, relying on His Spirit in the stuff of your daily life, you can become a person of unconditional love. You can effortlessly and willingly embrace EGRs! Isn’t that wonderful news? PRAYER I praise you, Jesus, for giving me the supernatural ability to love the EGRs in my life. REFLECTION Who are your EGRs? Lift them up to the Lord right now and pray for eyes to see them as He does. Warren wrote on his website that everybody, including himself, has bad days. He said his wife, Kay, knows he is “touchy” twice a week — once on Saturday afternoon because he's focused on the message he's preaching, and another time on Monday morning because he's drained from preaching all weekend. During those two days, Warren comes with EGR, so his wife makes allowances for it and cuts him some slack. “That's a key part of how you deal with EGRs,” he said. We have to cut them some slack. Not everyone who bugs you or hurts you realizes what they're doing. Oftentimes they're responding to their own hidden pain, and they don't even know that they're hurting all these people around them. When Christians find it difficult to overlook an offense, Warren wants them to remember the gift of God's forgiveness. The Bible verse Colossians 3:13 is a great reminder: “Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” At the same time, Warren warned Christians to never gossip about the people they don't like or are giving them a hard time. It might feel good to vent about one's frustrations, but it's a very unloving act, he said. “The Bible says we must love people who offend us. Gossiping about them is anything but loving,” he said. “If you gossip about that other person, you're just adding fuel to the fire of any frustrations you feel.” If people were to be honest with themselves, Warren said they would acknowledge that gossip is a form of retaliation. In a sense, people are getting back at the person who offended them by talking about them behind their back. “God hates it”" he stressed. “Gossip is incredibly destructive. It's destructive to churches. It is destructive to families. It's destructive to businesses. And gossip just perpetuates the pain.” https://www.christianpost.com/ news/how-christians-should-deal-withpeople-with-egr-extra-gracerequired.html By Czarina Nicole Ong HOW CHRISTIANS DEAL WITH PEOPLE WITH EGR (EXTRA GRACE REQUIRED)

SGBC | 10 What is Grace? What is Extra? What is Required? Grace is the basis of Christian faith in God saved by faith through Grace. God’s Grace is undeserved Favor. Not earned but freely given by God. Grace bridges us to God, because of our relationship with Him. (His character) Extra is to a greater extent than usual. Required is essential, compulsory or I need it, or it is necessary. Grace is essential for life. If God did not extend Grace to us daily, we would literally die spiritually and maybe even physically. The advantage of salvation opens Grace for us who know Jesus in the pardon of our sins. Remember God gives us Grace daily. Paul says in 1Corinthians 1:4, I always thank my God for you because of His grace given you in Christ Jesus. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, But He said to me, My Grace is sufficient for you for My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. With this we desire extra {to a greater extent than usual} for the times we are in today. But God sees fit to give His Grace in greater amounts and we should extend that same Grace to our fellow man, no matter what the situation or circumstances may be. We owe this to God. He set the standards for all of us. This requirement is because it is necessary for life. (Ours and theirs). God does not have to do anything for us, but He does because He loves all of us with His unconditional love. For that I am truly grateful and thankful. WHAT ABOUT YOU? Where required is concerned we all need extra Grace most of the time. We Definitely do not deserve it BUT GOD loves us just that much. It is necessary to live a God filled life. Let’s pray: Father in the Name of Jesus thank You for Your grace. It truly belongs to You and You freely give to us. Thank You for the extra when we cannot see clearly. Thank You Father. In the Name of Jesus. And it is so! Galatians 1:15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace, was pleased. Humbly submitted by Rev Cathy Ross Woulard Encouragement for September EXTRA GRACE REQUIRED Our Girl Scouts’ Fall Product Program is underway.
