SGBC Church Newsletter Volume 7, Edition 3

Church Newsletter March 2026

Rev. Dr. Reginald Woullard Sr. entered the ministry in 1989 under the tutelage and nurturing of his father, the Rev. Dr. R.W. Woullard Jr. He was licensed and ordained by his father becoming a fourth generation minister. On February 20, 2005, Rev. Dr. Reginald Woullard, the youngest son born to the late Rev. Dr. R. W. Woullard Jr. and the late Mrs. Annette Woullard, preached his first sermon as the pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Pastor followed in his father’s footsteps when he became the illustrious pastor of the Shady Grove Church located in the Eastabuchie community. Pastor Woullard has been a Senior Pastor for 36 years, he has been preaching for 38 years. Before coming to Shady Grove, Pastor Woullard’s other pastoral assignments included the following churches; Mary Magdalene Baptist Church of Eatonville, Good Hope Baptist Church of New Augusta, and Antioch Baptist Church of Hattiesburg. He is a graduate of Hattiesburg Public Schools. God gifted Pastor Woullard with athletic abilities. Using those abilities, he attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) on a football scholarship where he was a four-year letterman. His athletic prowess at Ole Miss led to his signing as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 1980. After returning home, he attended and graduated from William Carey University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He broadened the scope of his education with further studies at the University of Southern Mississippi. He served in the field of education as a teacher and coach for over 20 years before retiring in 2007. In 2024, Pastor Woullard was inducted into the Hattiesburg Public School Hall of Fame.Rev. Dr. Woullard received his Bachelor of Theology degree from Mississippi Baptist Seminary and did additional studies at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a graduate of the Harvard Divinity School Summer Leadership Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In May 2007, he received his Master of Theology and his Doctorate of Theology degrees from the New Foundation Theological Seminary. God has equipped and is using Pastor Woullard to carry Shady Grove to the next level. In 2014, the Rev. Dr. R.W. Woullard Jr. Family Life Center was open to accommodate and serve our growing congregation. A webcast of both church services can be seen each Sunday. A band, Youth Choir, and the addition of a transportation ministry were added so members could be served on every level. Both the 7:45 am and the 10:45 am worship services have shown astonishing growth. In the first two years under Pastor’s Woullard’s leadership, our membership more than doubled. A youth minister and a ministry coordinator were added to the staff. Additional staff and services were added to handle the phenomenal expansion of our congregation. God has blessed us abundantly in both the numerical and financial realms. He is the visionary and architect of numerous new ministries at Shady Grove Baptist Church, which are designed to take the church to the next level. We continue to be astounded and grateful for the expansive growth we have seen in our people resources, our physical resources, our financial resources, and our real estate resources, under Pastor Woullard’s leadership. We thank God for the global growth we have seen via our webcasting. Our reach has been expanded on a world-wide basis and we consider this our newest avenue for fulfilling the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. New outreach programs are being added to reach the unsaved and to offer them the only alternative – Jesus Christ.Under Pastor Woullard’s leadership, Shady Grove adopted Monrovia, Liberia which included visiting and ministering in this West Africa country, digging wells for drinking water, bringing Bibles, medical supplies, clothing, remodeling and enlarging several churches and orphanages. In 2024, God blessed us to plant Shady Grove Baptist ChurchLiberia, which will further the spreading of the Word.Pastor Woullard is known for the creed he lives by: “The grass withereth, and the flower fadeth: but the Word of God shall stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8 KJV) He and his lovely wife, Lady Joyce have four children, Dan’yelle, Reginald Jr., Isaiah and Cameron; and one granddaughter, Laila. SGBC | 3This year we thank God and celebrate Pastor Woullard’s 21st year of shepherding our church family. Since coming to Shady Grove, Pastor and First Lady have shown us they were sent to us by God. We thank God for favoring us and blessing us with this man and woman of God. In the Bible, the number 21 symbolizes completion, divine order, and new beginnings, often associated with themes of judgment and restoration. Numbers in the Bible often carry profound spiritual significance, and the number 21 is no exception. We’ve discovered that this intriguing number appears throughout scripture, conveying important messages about completion, responsibility, and divine timing. SYMBOLISM AND THEMES1. Completion and Perfection: The number 21 is often seen as a representation of completion and divine order. It is considered a multiple of 7 (which symbolizes spiritual perfection) and is interpreted as a heightened spiritual condition, marking a time of fullness in God's plan. 2. Divine Judgment and Restoration: The number 21 frequently appears in contexts involving divine judgment and subsequent restoration. For example, the Israelites' period of exile and their eventual return to Jerusalem after 21 years signifies a time of judgment followed by deliverance. 3. New Beginnings: The number 21 is also linked to new beginnings and spiritual growth. It reflects the journey toward maturity and the fulfillment of God's promises, as seen in the genealogy of Jesus, which includes 21 generations from Abraham to Christ. Revelation 21: This chapter describes the New Jerusalem, symbolizing the ultimate fulfillment of God's promises and the establishment of a new heaven and earth, emphasizing the themes of completion and new beginnings. Generational Significance: The 21 generations from Abraham to Jesus illustrate God's structured purpose and lineage, highlighting the divine order in His covenant with Israel. Judgment Events: The number 21 is associated with significant events, such as the last day of God's spring festival, which represents the culmination of judgment against the Egyptians during the Exodus. CONCLUSIONThe number 21 in the Bible carries profound significance, symbolizing completion, divine order, and new beginnings. Its occurrences in scripture reflect themes of judgment, restoration, and the fulfillment of God's promises, offering valuable insights into the spiritual journey and divine plans. Understanding the biblical meaning of this number can enhance one's interpretation of scripture and personal faith.Whether you’re encountering the number 21 in your daily life or simply curious about biblical numerology, understanding its scriptural context can deepen your spiritual insight. From Jacob’s 21-year servitude to the 21-day fast of Daniel, this number consistently represents periods of faithful waiting and spiritual maturity in God’s divine plan. Pastor, as you embark on your 22nd year at Shady Grove, know that your church family love you and your family and we pray God’s blessings always follow you! SGBC | 5IN-PERSONDropboxCashCheckCredit/Debit CardsCASH APP$sgbchburgONLINE GIVINGshadygrove-church.org/give VENMO@[email protected] concept of two things being true at the same time is a profound idea that resonates with many in the Christian faith. It is often associated with the teachings of Jesus, who demonstrated the ability to reconcile love and hate, as seen in Matthew 5:43-44, where Jesus teaches to love one’s enemies and pray for those who persecute. This duality is also reflected in the Bible’s narrative, where Jesus is both a divine figure and a human being, embodying the paradox of being both true and false at the same time. The idea of two true things can be true at the same time is not only a theological concept but also a practical one. It encourages individuals to embrace the complexity of life, to understand that true values and beliefs can coexist with the challenges and contradictions of life. This understanding can lead to a more profound and meaningful existence, one that is not confined to a single truth or perspective.“Two things can be true” means that two seemingly opposite or contradictory ideas, emotions, or facts can exist and be valid simultaneously. It encourages abandoning black-and-white, “either/or” thinking for a more nuanced, “both/and” perspective, allowing for complexity in emotions, relationships, and situations.Key Aspects of “Two Things Can Be True”:Coexisting Emotions: You can feel sad and relieved at the same time, or be both scared and excited.Contradictory Facts: A situation might have both significant progress and major setbacks.Subjective Realities: Something can be a positive experience for one person while being negative for another, yet both viewpoints are true.Acceptance and Action: It is a key component of dialectical thinking, allowing you to accept a situation as it is while simultaneously working to change it.Conflict Reduction: This mindset reduces judgment of oneself and others, fostering empathy and resilience.Examples:You can love a family member while being frustrated by their behavior.A company can be experiencing high growth while needing to cut costs.A person can be a kind, caring individual while also making a mean comment. You can be grateful for a new opportunity while grieving the loss of the old one.AI PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY 21 YEARS OF SERVICEChurch Family, as we honor our Pastor and First Lady’s 21st Pastoral Anniversary, the Pastor’s Aide Ministry asks each member to give a $35 gift as a heartfelt expression of thanks. Your kindness helps us celebrate their faithful leadership. Thank you for sharing in this meaningful expression of love and support!

Each week, we have had the privilege of sitting under your faithful teaching of the Bible. Your preaching has been like a slow gospel drip that God has used to saturate our hearts with a greater love for Him. Thank you for teaching us about the beauty and majesty of Jesus Christ, the foolishness of sin, and the faithfulness of our Lord who always keeps His promises.Pastor, we are thankful for your Christlike conduct. You may not know this, but your conduct has helped us to better understand what it means to be a godly man/woman. By the way you greet members on Sunday morning, or interact with your family, I have learned just as much if not more from your character. Thank you for walking with integrity in an age where so many live double lives.Pastor, we are thankful for how you remind us there is a greater aim in life. Thank you for modeling what it means to live for the sake of God’s kingdom and not our own. You have reminded us that the most important thing is that we live for Christ—no matter what comes our way. In a culture that tells us to live for ourselves, you have shown us that there is a better way.Pastor, we are thankful for your patience with us. Sometimes we are hard-headed. Sometimes we are apathetic, and other times we are fully committed. Thank you for continuing to patiently care for us through the mountains and the valleys of life.Pastor, we are thankful for your steadfast leadership. In an age of confusion and polarization, thank you for being a consistent voice to lead us toward Christ. In the recent years, you have had to tackle issues that no one could have prepared for. Thank you for remaining steadfast and faithful even in uncertain times.Pastor, we are thankful for your vulnerability and perseverance through suffering. I know that over the years you have experienced hardship in your ministry, family, and friendships. Thank you for showing us that Christ is your shepherd, too. Thank you that even through your suffering, you have reminded us that these are but light momentary afflictions which pale in comparison to the glory that awaits us (2 Corinthians 4:17).Pastor, thank you! Your example in ministry encourages us to stand firm in our own faith. We don’t often say this enough, but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate you. I hope you know that we thank God for you, and we are glad to have you as our pastor.www.pastorscenter.org/blog/pastor-thank-you(Answers on Page 24)TO OUR PASTOR

SGBC | 7To the pastor’s wife, the woman often behind, but so faithfully beside, a man God has called to labor for Him.Your husband stands on stage and preaches, leads our church in worship, cares for other people’s needs, points groups to Jesus, hangs out with church members, goes on missions trips, counsels people, works with other leaders, and makes hard decisions. Everyone sees him, but often, and usually unintentionally, overlooks you. It isn’t easy to be you, and we all publicly acknowledge that right now. For all the times you held down the fort while he went to work; for all the times you would have loved to see God work up close and change a heart; for all the days off or evening dates that didn’t happen because of ministry… We can’t give you those back, but we can say, “Thank you,” and try to love you better. You are the smile, the warmth, the comfort, the faithful, prayerful, patient, more-helpful-than-you-could-even-know partner to the man God has called to labor for Him. You might not often be seen or even be with him, but he can’t do it without you beside him. You are not “just” a pastor’s wife. You have been specifically called by God to this role. It isn’t easy, but this is why we love you, this is why we pray for you, this is why we can do what we do—because we do it alongside you.Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your endurance. Thank you for your wisdom. Thank you for your correction even when we don’t want to hear it. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for your honesty, loyalty, and patience. Prayer:Today, we lift up our pastor's wife to You, Lord, seeking that precious gift of Your wisdom for her. Grant her the wisdom to navigate the complexities of ministry life, and the insight to support her husband in his pastoral duties. Bless her with wisdom that is pure, peace-loving, considerate, full of mercy and good fruit. Let this wisdom from You guide her in every situation she faces, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and moments of uncertainty into testimonies of Your faithfulness. In the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.Excerpted from: www.strategicrenewal.com/in-gratitude-for-the-often-forgottenpastors-wife TO OUR FIRST LADYJessica DayTrinity BlackwoodJeremiah DayJesslyn DayTorah DayJenesis DayTravell DayErykah LamptonLandon BanksDaylan HughesJasmine PlummerJimmy D. SGBC | 24Faith and trust in God. Vlad Sauchuk, Pastor/author who leads Hungry Generation Church in Pasco, Washington, wrote the difference between Faith and Trust is that faith is actually pressing in, while trust is the passive confidence that God’s got you.According to Guidepost, a person may have faith that God can heal them. That is belief. But it requires trust to proceed. (Example: the child whose father said, “Oh Jesus I believe, help my unbelief.” Mark 9:24 KJV And straightway, the father of the child cried out and said with tears, Lord, I believe help thy mine unbelief. Most of us believe in the power of God thanks to our personal experiences and through reading the Bible but putting these beliefs into action can be a true challenge for most placing our trust in God. This is our choice, and one that we must make wholeheartedly. But no matter what, God is with us. (Ref. Guidepost). So, in closing: We know that Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen? And trust is believing that what we ask God for will come to fruition. Both are true, both essential to our lives. We must trust, we must have faith, and then the key point is we must obey God. So, in this I pray that you receive that two things can be true. They work together to bring us to the place God wants us to be on this journey, on this journey of life with Him and through Him. May God continue to bless you in these areas in the name of Jesus.Prayer: Father, in the Name of Jesus, I thank You, O God, for opportunities that we understand that faith and trust work together. Little different, but they work together to bring us to that place in You where we desire to be, and what You desire for and from us. We trust in You and have faith in You. Thank You Lord, on this day for all that You’ve done, You’re doing, and what You’re about to do in our lives. Oh, God, we give you glory. In the Mighty Name of Jesus we pray, Amen.Humbly Submitted by Rev. Cathy Ross WoulardEncouragement For March1. Answer D - The Bible was written over the course of more or less 1,600 years (from 1500 BC to the mid-100s AD) in different languages, by approximately 40 authors, at different times, with varying literary styles and genres.2. Answer B -The central theme of the Bible is the person of Jesus Christ, to whom everything converges. From Genesis to Revelation, all the books point to God, in the person of Jesus, the author of human salvation (Luke 24:27, 44-45; Acts 10:43).3. Answer D - counting the number of characters, Job 3:2 is the smallest: “He said:”. John 11.35 is the second shortest: “Jesus Wept” and the smallest in the King James Version.4. Answer B - Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the entire Bible. It is a didactic Psalm, formed by an acrostic of the Hebrew alphabet, and has 176 verses. The shortest chapter is Psalm 117, a hymn of praise to the Lord, with only 2 verses.
