TRUE FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE

INDEPENDENCE... IS IT REALLY A GOOD THING?

In a day and age when independence is praised, I wonder if it's really a good thing when

it comes to our relationship with God.

“God helps those who help themselves,” we say, as if quoting Scripture. Oh really? I

believe Scripture implies God helps those who admit they can't help themselves. The

Apostle Paul, who probably considered himself quite independent before he met Christ,

claimed the strength that comes through a total dependence on God when he said

God's “power is perfected in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about

my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

If you've prided yourself on not needing anyone, or have just feared trusting another

person because of disappointment or betrayal, God wants to more than make up for

your disappointment in someone else by showing you, in His Word, that He's the most Inside this issue

Scripture tells us three wonderful things about God: Page 2: What’s Happening At SGBC

What’s Happening At

You are invited to come and be blessed as the Rev.
Dr. Marcus D. Cosby, the Senior Pastor of Wheeler
Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, delivers
messages from Heaven.
As the successor to the Founding Pastor of Wheeler
Avenue, Dr. William A. Lawson, Pastor Cosby has
continued the ministry of this intentionally intergen-
erational congregation in the inner city of Houston,
Texas since 2004, having served as Associate Pastor
since 1998.
God commissioned Pastor Cosby to develop the
ministry and the people of Wheeler Avenue Baptist
Church. Under his leadership, Wheeler opened its
brand new building in November, 2021 after not
meeting in person for more than 20 months.
Make plans to be in the Shady Grove Life Center at
7 pm on Wednesday, July 6th; and share the good
news! Excerpts from wheelerbc.org

God commissioned us to go
and share His simple plan of
salvation. Rev. Cathy Ross
Woulard is leading a class that
will offer the opportunity for
us to get more comfortable
with sharing how much God
loves us and wants us in His
family. The classes are every
Wednesday beginning at 6 pm
in the Fellowship Hall.
All are welcome, no registra-
tion necessary.

BLESSED AS A REPUBLIC

It is said that the blessings we have received as a Constitutional Republic over the past 246 years are from God.
Though it may not always seem like it at times, the turmoil that can be seen in other countries proves the stability
brought to America by God. An example of how our roots are based off religious examples can be found written
on the Liberty Bell. The inscription at the top of the bell is “Proclaim liberty throughout the land and to all the
inhabitants thereof” Leviticus 25:10.
