STEP 12:
BULLETS

Bullet points are used in non-fiction books to draw attention
to a list of items. While most people are used to a simple round
bullet, your book can have a more decorative bullet point
depending on the theme, such as a cookbook or gardening
book.

STEP 13:
TITLE PAGES

The title page is the first page of the book’s interior. It is
generally only the text from the front cover, which includes the
book title, subtitles, author’s name, and publisher’s logo. To
make a strong impact, some books also have a half title page,
which is only the book title. This is in addition to the full title
page. Some authors like to have the half title page before page
1 of the story.

STEP 14:
TABLE OF
CONTENTS

The table of contents (TOC) is used to help readers navigate
your book. While fiction books don’t always have a TOC, there
is no rule that says you can’t—just look at any Harry Potter
book! Your TOC should be easy to understand. The layout can
be plain, or you can take the opportunity to add some personal
style.

STEP 19:
PHOTO STYLES

If your book has images, there are many ways to display them.
One on a page or many, full-page or a smaller size with text
wrapping around it. If your image has text on it, larger is better
to make it easier to read. Using a colored background can frame
the image to help it stand out. Many authors prefer no color or
background so there is no distraction from the intended image.

If you want to drive a point of information home, then the use
of color lines or call-out boxes can easily lead the way!
