OBITUARIES

We were sorry to hear of the passing of the following Spurs supporters:
Paul Robinies, who passed away on 21 February at the age of 59 in Guildford, surrounded by family and friends. A
family man with a heart of gold, he was a lifelong Spurs fan who watched every game and enjoyed his visit to the
new stadium in a private box in December, when he met some of our Legends. He will be sadly missed by children
Scott, Tony, Sophie, Matthew, and Ben, grandchildren Frankie and Tommy and all who knew him.
Ronald Albert Alderton, who passed away aged 79 on 3 February. He lived in Tottenham and was a lifelong Spurs
supporter, but wasn’t able to make it to the new stadium. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Ray Spurr, who passed away in late January. A long-time supporter of the club, he was thrilled to receive a letter from
Mauricio Pochettino two years ago to celebrate his 80th birthday. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Mark Stuart Thompson, who passed away aged 57 on 16 February. A season ticket holder for the last 17 years, he
came to every game with the rest of his family who are all season ticket holders too. He registered both his sons as
Junior members at just three hours old! An amazing, humble man, he will be sorely missed by wifeTracey, sons Adam
and Olly, brother Gary and parents Jan and Ron, but he has left a legacy for generations ofThompsons to come.

We would like to extend our condolences to their families and friends at this sad time.

AT THE 2 STEVE BRUCE

It was the opening day of the 1984/85 season and I was sent to Carrow
Road in my newspaper days to cover Norwich taking on reigning
champions Liverpool.

There was also added interest in centre-half Steve Bruce who had
just been signed from Third Division Gillingham and was making his
top flight debut for City.

It didn’t go well for the likeable Bruce. There was barely 30 seconds
on the clock when he headed home an own goal. And he readily admits
that he beat his own keeper again with another header 25 minutes
later, but that goal was not subsequently blamed on him!

To their credit, the Canaries came back from two goals down to
draw 3-3.

Norwich finished the season as League Cup winners, beating
Sunderland in the final. Both clubs went down despite City finished
nine points clear of the Black Cats. Still, they returned to Division One
the following season.
