THE ROAD

GLORY
As we approach a year ending in ‘One’ and look forward to celebrating a number of anniversaries of
our previous trophy triumphs, in each matchday programme this season we’ll reflect on one game
that we played along the road to glory in one of those successes.

JAMIE WEIR
This evening’s opponents Chelsea feature heavily in Jamie Weir’s Spurs-supporting life.
Born and raised in Northern Ireland, the Sky Sports News presenter and reporter’s first Spurs game
was against Chelsea back in 1997, his mum and sister are both Blues fans and his number one Spurs moment?
You can probably guess but read on below!
As for that first game almost 25 years ago, Jamie recalled: “That was my first time in London, full stop! You’ve got
to remember, this is a wee boy from Belfast. The walk from Seven Sisters to White Hart Lane felt like 20 miles
then, it still does to this day! Then walking out to 36,000 at White Hart Lane, it just took my breath away. I
remember tugging my dad’s coat and saying, ‘this is unreal’.”
HERE ARE JAMIE’S THREE OF A KIND - SPURS MOMENTS…
United were on their way to their third Premier League
title, but we were relentless at the Lane on New Year’s
Day, 1996.
Jamie: “This one sticks so clearly in my head, when we
beat Manchester United 4-1. At that time, United were
unstoppable. I remember Peter Schmeichel was injured
and hauled off at half-time, and Chris Armstrong scored
twice. I was only 12 at the time. I remember having a load of
pals around, all United fans, thinking we were going to lose,
and we beat the champions-elect of England 4-1!”
Lucas Moura’s dramatic hat-trick against It had to be Chelsea! We come from 1-0 down to beat the

Arsenal in the Europa League! It was me and Reshmin
Chowdhury from BT Sport, her cameraman, all Spurs
fans. We found a pub in Valencia where there were
a few Gooners, but not too many, and watched it. At
half-time, I said, ‘I’m going home now’ but they said,
‘no, stick around, we’ll order some food’. So, I did, and
the rest is history. I’ve never been more emotional
watching Spurs. Resh, Ben and I were all hugging each
other. It was great.”

A talented midfielder with a wand of a left foot, ANDY REID joined us from

restricted to limited opportunities in a Spurs shirt. We recently caught up

club, his journey since and find out what he’s up to now.
